There has been a load of felling on the ‘off piste’ trails, along with areas closed for sensitive wildlife issues.
Still if your prepared to have a wander for a couple of hours, you can still put a decent loop together.

I have gone from OS bars to 25.4 x 750mm bars on all my bikes and cant say I have noticed to difference
I can’t say I notice the difference between xtr and Deore either
It’s all functunal unless you are a world class racer/dh type
Maybe I am not knarr or rad enough. Sigh

@Smartay when I got the used frame it was black and the paint needed some tlc to say the least
Hence the powder coat in signal orange or 2009 in powder coat terms
Happy as I wanted the orange colour originally

Having watched a couple of vids on YouTube, on one of them he struggles to get a 20″ on a 26″ rim. So probs best to go for the 24″ tube.

I am 6’2 and had the medium a couple of years ago.
It was a little small even with a 410mm seat post

I had a Ti hardtail and swapped it for a Lapierre Spicy.
Have to admit that I love the Spicy as it fits right and it rides lovely.
When I did Inners and GT i ride a FS but really regreted not taking the HT, and found myself wanted another.
I have ridden rocky trails in the Peak District faster on my hardtail that I have on a FS too. Plus I broke the pivot bolt.
Therefore I am in the lucky position to get another HT, being a blue pig and will see how it pans out.
Also have a 29er too. But save that for local stuff.
HT all the way. Except when you want to ride FS

I have a Spicy 516 and it is way overkill for what I need but I love it
I have mates that have done the alps on hardtails without issue too
Would 20mm make that much difference?
Personally having ridden hardtails, 100mm, 140 and 160mm bikes I would be pushed to say that I felt the difference between 140 and 160mm
Try some 160mm forks on your Foxy. Might save you a lot of cash

    Blue sky here is Warwickshire
Went out for a mojo building exercise, which worked but those non wired bridges are slippy. Whoops
Also met a guy playing a full keyboard set up with amps etc in the middle of a bridleway in the middle of nowhere
    Folk eh??

Did this on my Spicy and a couple of other bigger bikes
Running 36 and 22 on the front with 9 on the rear
Had no issues so far and have not altered anything apart from the stop screws on the front mech
Also have a bash ring too
May go for the 10 speed set up next though once the drivetrain goes

    Mine from back in 2005.
It was originally black, but took the nitromors and wire wool to it and it came up fine.

For my two penneth, I love the whole 29er SS thing and run mine 32/16 as a commuter and 32/18 for hills.
I do however keep bending front wheels and may have to get some bouncy forks.

The only time I use SPD’s now is on the singlespeed
Only cos I have not got another pair of flats
But since returning to flats my riding has improved, along with my shin scars 😀

I treat my commute as training and bike to work 10 miles each way every day if I can
I am lucky enough to have secure storage so use the SS 29er

The only thing I have found in the past is that your ‘hack’ bike gradually collects bits of bling over time and ends up being worth just as much as your best bike that sits idle in the shed while you are on your hack

Nice video. Although I stand by what I said, and I was generalising.
But the ones know who they are and I am sure most of us know some too
Have a nice day I’m off to fettle with my 26″ bike 8)

Ah Nick, that’s why I always keep a 26″ FS in the shed. Cos you never know

Then when these lot have finished posing and preening over there uber niche ‘steeds’ they will turn to each other and say ‘ did you see that 26″ full Suss ride by?’
Before putting there bikes back on the car and going home and it never seeing a trail

It does me fine. I am no carbon junkie or weight weenie attention hoare
    Steel is real.
Plus another at 25lb one on here shocker!!!

    Bernaard

Ignore anything that it said on here until you have tried one.

I have had 5 29ers and love them for local twisty singletrack.
As for slower acceleration, climbing or otherwise, that is total bollards too.
Not so nimble? again I disagree. I find a slight riding style has to be made, but I have not noticed a credible difference.

Mine is reasonably light too at 24lb, but it is a real bike without gears or suspension.

If I could afford one I would probably get a 29er FS, but I can’t so will stick to 26″ bouncer and 29″ SS Rigid

Some like them, some don’t. Suck it and see

    Haro Mary
Just built mine up and tested it tonight
I had forgot how much I enjoyed riding local singletrack on a 29er SS rigid
Especially as I have been a riding 6″ FS of late
Is happy, and I had the moral high ground when riding past the pub with all the drinkers outside by being healthy and exercising. Did feel jealous though
    Will get a pic shortly
