Just to let you know the closing date for registration for SSUK16 will soon be upon us.
As its being hosted by Godiva this year it would be good for a good turnout.
The more the merrier and hopefull more to charity

I sincerely hope that no one turns up expecting a free weekends camping.

If people wish to attend that’s fine, but the camping field has cost us so don’t expect it to be free camping as we’ve had to fork out for the field already, amongst loads of other groovy things for you nice(ish) people

I yearned for a Vassago Jabberwocky for ages. Moved all the stops to get one and avoid import duty too.
    Rode it, hated it
Far too long, even for a 29er
Back to the inbred and the Goose for me

From that map descents 2 and 3 are my current faves, although the last time we did Carding Mill valley descent it was dark. Made it more interesting

After the climb through the woods from Marshbrook and down to gate before turning right to the glider club, there are a couple of good decsents from there.
One is a switchback descent leading down to the road, and the other is christened the ‘Tobaggan run’ good in the wet if you like sliding on your back side.
You can then ride along to Meddlicott before climbing up to Pole Bank
We always finish off with a blast down to Little Stretton.
Its a balls out finish. Not technical in the slightest but a fast wide track to the bottom, which always stinks of cooked pads.

I have two at the moment, a rigid 29er Cannondale fat front and a rigid 29er Inbred
Looking at just having one 8O that I can swap the forks about, which is probs gonna be the inbred.
Also that can have, ahem, gears should the need arise.

I’ll be SS’ing it so gradient not an issue.

I went to Austria in August. My mate hired a Lapierre and took it over.
Hated it, but the 140mm bike was more than capable.
Other mate, rode his 140mm Stump without issue.
Other mate bust his rear hub, hired a Giant DH bike, hated it.
Crap tyres, brakes, shock mountings were FUBARD. And he went over the bars as the brakes were the wrong way round.

    Take the Stumpy

Had loads, but currently got a Alu Cannondale SL3 29er fat front SS,
However, going back to the trusty 29er inbred at the weekend.

My commute used to be an 20m round trip. Its now a 40m round trip on the roadbike.
I have now cut it down to off road 34m round trip an much more funerer, without the risk of riding on the road.
The commute is probs 70/30 off to on road.
3 times a week is plenty

I must have had half a dozen 29ers
Most have been singlespeed rigids and have ridden them everywhere
Recently I have been riding singlespeed rigid 69er and going back to full 29er just feels weird now
So much so that the 29er frame and forks will be for sale soon
    At least I tried

    Mojo update.
    Changed things around.
More gym and only commute 3 times a week. I use strava to challenge myself on he way in, with a couple of local KOM’s to keep me on my toes
I vary the bikes and routes I use and the roadie has gone
Seems strange how I get the KOM on the fat front SS rather than the geared bike though

A couple of dry rides locally, a guided Woburn loop and a solo fat front Llandegla loop has got it up to about 75% mojo
I am now struggling why I can’t get on with 29ers now FFS
Have kept the local rides to short blasts on fun stuff rather than 30/40 mile rides
    I’ll get there

    Cheers for the replies

Well seeng as I am camping about 3 miles from Llandegla it would be rude not to
So I introduced it to the fat front singlespeed

    Not against and not for.
Not a dog owner and have only have had two experiences on rides with dogs on the trail
1st at Haughmond hill where the dog was a PITA weaving on and out stopping, causing crashes etc
And the folk that bought it along we’re not in the original group. They were surprise guests of a club rider

On the flip side, at the weekend my mate took his around Woburn with us
It knew the trails and where to go always running at the side of you about 2m to the side in the undergrowth
It was a pleasure and after about an hour the dog went home and we continued

Personally I don’t agree with dogs on trails at trail centres, but elsewhere live and let live

I commute 10 miles each way 4 days a week
I prefer the morning commute and do it on the singlespeed
I use the mtb to allow extra miles via the woods to eliviate the boredom
And after 8 years of commuting it is starting to become tiresome

If you can vary your route it helps a lot

    Bernaard

    Nice that.
I did that same experiment with my sovereign as a 69er, with has now progressed to a fat front
It is being replaced with a Chumba HX1 as I wanted something lighter
I have ridden the peaks and the like and it rules

    Rigid bikes rock

    Nothing on local news?

If the Pilot Pub was still open I could understand it (I used to drink in there BTW)
But as depends what the assault was over, as lots of things, especially over i.e. drug debts don’t get reported

None of the neighbours have said anything, and I only live up the road towards the Shepherd
