Righty…..know what the issue was.
Needed tightening on the drive side…
I also noted that I had written on the bb when I installed…May 2008.
FS is not used a whole lot but chain slipped between crank and bb the other week and slightly cack handed mate gave almighty pull to get it out.
Full credit to SS….bearings are perfect…as is the shifting which was pretty poor earlier today, which was first outing for the FS since the chain dropping incident the other week.
Note to self…buy some thread-lock…
benzFree MemberWell, viewed but did not buy.
Bit of a shed and some of the chassis welds looked dodgy.
Exhaust was interesting – home-made manifold which had a right angle into a carbon bike silencer. Sounded like the horsemen of the apocalypse coming to visit when they were a bit angry…..
Wet road – wheelspin on demand.
I'm 5ft 7" and struggled to get in.
Search continues….
benzFree MemberGearbox from one of the rwd AE86 Corolla's apparently.
Supposedly a rwd Starlet back end, but not convinced about that.
benzFree Member90's – nah, I'm much more up to date than that….HFX-9's on one of my bikes….
The MPH's are a revelation in comparison to his previous mal-adjusted v's with no braking material left. They have actually worked ok following change of pad and bigger rotors.
Anyways, avoids wasting good p*ss!
benzFree Member£20.
Their own car-park, 5 mins drive from work and generally a ladies place, so plenty of employees and customers who are pleasing.
Makes for a nice lunchtime jaunt once a month.
Menu options freely discussed – Brazil>California>Playboy>Hollywood – increase in price each time – go figure.
benzFree MemberOn back of telly the optic is digital audio out which goes to TV opt in on the sound system.
The manual does not really indicate which method is best to get best quality sound whilst watching DVD's…but that may just be me…..
benzFree MemberI'm 5' 7" with 30" inside leg.
2006 model small Trance with 90mm stem and Thomson layback post.
Felt fine on Friday evening again – not used for a while.
However, noticed that it did feel 'upright' in comparison to my other bikes. Perfect for the playbike I use it for.
It runs Revs at 130mm on the front.
I suspect you are now no closer to the answer…..
benzFree MemberSo, per Zangolin, would the same fit my 2006/7 Trance I wonder?
Thanks!
benzFree MemberThe Hope one will work.
Used one to fit Giant MPH IS disc caliper to some PM MX-Pros on Friday evening.
Took a wee bit to work out why rotor rubbing.
Therefore file was needed – did not align properly with the PM mount until a little bit of the corner filed away.
benzFree MemberWell, tried 2 different wheels, including 1 ss which works perfectly on my other bike – it cracked and slipped too.
Took a link out of chain – chain too short to use 16t rear sprocket so swapped it for a 14 I had knocking about, tighter chain tension, works perfectly.
The chain did initially look tight enough, but obviously was not.
Thanks for the assistance folks..
32:14 is only a little harder than 32:14….I'm sure the change will be good for me….
benzFree MemberJohn Smith Part 123
Part 1234
Part 12345Whilst yes, could copy data into another worksheet and manually copy John Smith down, is there any way to avoid the manual effort by ticking something within the pivot table options?
Lean Sigma – non value adding time…..
benzFree MemberMmmm….so why would a freehub be fine running geared and then crack and slip like a cracky and slippy thing when ss'd?
Torque? Cannot see why that would be the case – no more than running geared surely – obviously ratio dependant.
Chain-line? Again, if nice chainline with the ss why would this be so?
One of the great mysteries of life – well, to me anyways.
benzFree MemberThanks all.
New 8 speed sram chain and powerlink ordered from CRC.
I'll try that to start. Reason is that I pedalled the old bike the rear wheel was on around couple of weeks back when it was geared and it was fine. Also my mate very, very rarely used the bike.
Still an issue and I'll try another wheel.
Appreciate it.
benzFree MemberMmmmm…I have to be honest and state that for rear wheels, I have noticed a ping on the initial pedal stroke.
Rear wheels from Merlin (a few) and also where other wheels re-tensioned by my LBS.
Only rears I have not heard this initial ping is Crossrides on my Trance….
That said, all rear wheels which have gone ping are still true.
benzFree MemberThanks all. Assuming you lot are representative of the cycling community as a whole then I'll provide this feedback.
Must just be me who got excited by the bags of pink ano samples and then quickly got some onto my wifes bike.
Seriously, appreciate it.
benzFree MemberSorry friend, don't understand your response.
I'm doing a bit of research for a mater who is contemplating selling on ebay given his current job is looking precarious and he has a recent addition to the family.
Looking for sensible responses on basis of what the STW massive would purchase.
Thanks!
benzFree MemberWell, I bought a set for my wifes bike off here recently..
Recon 335, 140mm travel, QR.
Sram also have it on their site.
OE fork fitted to a number of bikes.
benzFree MemberI also like to recycle others waste. Local recycling centre scrap skip and Police lost and found sales great.
Some nice old steel things are found frequently which are great ssing material and gifting to folks new to the biking thing.
Trek 930 with True Temper Ox steel niceness.
Saracen Traverse Elite – mint – this week.
Best? A Klein Adroit – seriously! Shamelessly ebay'd 'though.
benzFree MemberAh, what a fine party – The English Democrats Party.
Loved the all-inclusive nature of their recent political broadcast indeed.
Salmond? Would not vote for his party, being a Scot who thinks we have no need for that farce in Edinburgh, but…..I reckon he could run rings round the other 3 chaps in open discussion.
Perhaps the Beeb fear that he and Gordie will get revenge by turning up in plaid and sending the other 2 home to think again?
Sadly, in terms of hydrocarbon resources and the EU, perhaps the UK should have looked to Norway for some assistance….but only until the hydrocarbons are finally expended of course.
benzFree MemberI'm pretty tempted…however….apart from being new and shiny and not actually having a carbon framed bike, I'm struggling to see real justification.
What would you build it up with? Big forks, big brakes, carbon everything else?
In fact, for those who may or may not be considering what would you build it up for and using what components?
benzFree MemberFolks,
Sorry – sadly not too hot at taking and loading pictures, but links to Trouts site:
http://www.troutie.com/index.php
Prices on the site.
Batteries I use are courtesy of Smudge:
http://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk/
Both excellent gents to deal with.
Thinking about it, there are some really decent folks involved in this cycling lark – I'd also include Bryan Aiston of Aiston Cycle Racks as another great example of an enthusiast and provider of cycling related products who is a pleasure to deal with.
Keep up the good work fellas!
benzFree MemberCheers – remarkably similar to my wifes one – apart from the fact I'll now be looking for a decent set of used WHITE Pikes to match the new white powdercoat.
Also thought a carbon seatpost would soften the back a bit……jeez it's firm…….
benzFree MemberGot a Costco anywhere near you and are or know a member?
Timberland 'Endurion' Toray Dermizax fabric jackets – waterproof, breathable and stretchy for just over £20….
Bit snug fit wise and not bike specific cut, but for the price I could not resist….
benzFree MemberLooking good Chris. The quad and 'LEDLum' are working perfectly. 'LEDLum' is getting lukewarm at best….bright little rascal. My mate is well chuffed.
Don't actually think I need any more light than the quad plus Ay-Ups on helmet, but…..
What's next after this big order?
Custom machined casing with 3 x 20mm triples? Guess driver from normal battery packs could be an issue…wonder what the hyperboost from George does?
Thanks again.
Scott
benzFree MemberDefinately – although it would be great to have more snow nowadays to justify them a bit more.
Had a spare set of wheels with Toyo Snowprox tyres for my old car – fantastic grip in the snow and slush. Limit was typically when the car bellied out on the snow.
My wife has some Hankook Snowbear for her car – not so great in snow as the Toyos but an excellent 'just in case there is snow' tyre.
Recently changed my car so once I get another set of wheels then likely tyres will be Nokian (Finns must make good winter tyres – no?).
If anyone is in N East Scotland and wants 4 x 195/50 x 15 winter tyres on Renault Clio 16v alloys (4 x 100 pcd and which I had on my Golf but also fit some Vauxhall) then give me a shout.
benzFree MemberDecent 3/4 bib longs or full length roubaix material tights with decent insert. If windy or wet then pair of waterproof shorts over the top?
My wife who is also not overly padded seems to keep warm using this down to around -10 – coldest we ventured out in earlier this year – issue was face and lungs….
benzFree MemberUsed these folks for stickering up various bikes and marking some local trails last winter….
Search in their self adhesive link.
benzFree MemberMatt,
I could be interested in the Bonty forks if they have v brake mounts.
scottdebsatbenzie26dotwanadoodotcodotuk
email me with some pics and price please.
Thanks,
Scott
benzFree MemberWorth speaking with Trout to assess what he could do for you – guess he'd need to know battery voltage, polarity and connector required.
benzFree MemberTheArtist….
I'd be happy to pay postage, etc if your silver Sony one works – my silver Sony one crapped out at the weekend….
benzatchevrondotcom
Thanks.
benzFree MemberThanks all.
I'd rather pay more and get peace of mind…..
In terms of brands, any relationship between Grohe and Hansgrohe or completely different companies?
benzFree MemberTrout, fantastic – thanks a bunch my friend.
Looks very, very good.
Apologies if I have created a potential new market for you…
Dropped you an email…
Cheers to all who responded to initial Q.
benzFree MemberCocks car?
Dialynx Sport 20v….
However, modern ones I tend to agree with your sentiment
benzFree MemberLa Grave?
Have to admit to being out of my depth more than a few times there – scared the sh1t out of me!
Hell, if there is decent snow, a bit of sun and some great scenery, then wherever will beat the 9>5.
Wonder if the cable car at Punt Helbronner is still like something out of 'Where Eagles Dare'…probably not…but a combination of wind, belly full(and bowel loosely holding onto…) of chilli grappa and vertigo as standard not a good combination
benzFree MemberAll,
Thanks for the responses.
Haddock – appreciate your offer (which I presume also included some cash from me ;-)), but I believe that the Witter ones do not have the tyre wheel 'bits' otherwise I'm sure we could come to some arrangement.
Aiston going to get a look as will the Thule 9503.
Oh – will have to accomodate 2006 Giant Trance and similarly top-tubed bikes – which I presume won't be an issue with the Aiston and Thule 9503?
benzFree MemberMmm.
Couple years back I got a Merlin Malt 1 for my wife, but in a size which fitted me – she is a good 3 inches taller without heels (even more with heels – but that is another story) but about 5 inches longer inside leg. And yes, I am taller than Cruise…bike too small.
However, just built up a Fisher GED frame for her after getting it powder-coated white. Middle and small chain rings only, 120mm travel Maz, carbon post, womens saddle, thin grips, Deore hydro brakes and decent wheels and tyres. And some nice anodized bits – in pink – skewers, grip clamps and a rather cheeky stem-cap and bolt from Purely Custom.com – check them out ;-) Bike is a bit on the heavy side, but fits perfectly – she seems to like it because it fits and looks good.
In reality, given a 2 year old daughter, whilst we may be able to get out on our own now and again (plan for short and not too technical), the heavier bike will serve as a handicap for missus when I’m carting junior around on the back of my old SS Clockwork..
If she ultimately decides she does not like, then I can use it myself or simply store in the garage for anyone who wants a go – it certainly won’t break.
benzFree Memberswisstony – exactly the route I’m going to go down so appreciate the positive feedback. Spoke with them yesterday and they advise not an issue to fix at all.
Surprisingly, none of my LBS’s had the tools to chase the threads in the bb through…which I found a bit strange. It’s an alloy frame
Threads picked up when taking our the chainset side – and I applied much force to get the bb out….my fault!
