Emailed a couple of places for very rough quotes and opinions. Nothing planned until oil and cable readers tried. Mtl meets gl4 spec so that and another cheap gl4 spec oil to try.

Have a similar roof structure to yours, I topped up the insulation at ceiling level and got the added bonus of much quieter bedrooms.

The fill port not the drain bolt. It still has oil in.

Mini update. Undid the fill port to see what the levels like and lots of filthy black oil poured out. Looked like used engine oil but smelled reassuringly transmission like.

Also looked like someone has been in there recently as it was wiped clean. Suspect overfilled in an attempt to fix it. The mtl oil I have isn’t suitable so need to get some G052 spec stuff.

Managed to get under the bonnet though as the release cable had snapped so that was a win.

Are we likely to damage the other five gears by still driving it?

Looks like my weekend is sorted. I have just under 2l of mtl redline mtl gl4 spec gearbox oil. Internet suggests between 2.1l and 2.3l needed.

Mtl says can be mixed with other synthetic and conventional oil. Any issues with topping off with another brand as long as it meets the spec?

Thanks all, I have 2 litres of gear box oil ready to replace it and have been looking for tutorials on the adjusting shifter cables.

Engine is spot on and very smooth for a 150k mile car and the other gears are all fine too. Shifts smoothly and no nasty noises from the gearbox. If I hold it in 6th its fine, not rough or noisy it will stay in 6th with gentle throttle so hopefully just oil.

Tried adding tints to a 1 series last week. It’s a horrendous thing to do. Pay someone else to do it. It will also look loads better.

Decided the prudent approach was to cut my losses. Picked up a fender rumble 15 with delivery for £88. Comes with the benefit of a warranty.

Will look to create a fancy lamp from the Ashdown.

It’s the 30w version. Powers on ok you can hear the speaker pop when turning on and off. With the amp on the speaker hums slightly so sounds like it’s getting power from the amp. No sound when playing though either through the amp or headphone jack. No buzz or clunk from the cable, tried a different bass and cable. Checked the fuses on the board and they’re fine.

£80 was for 2hrs labour and small bits as needed. Amp cost me £20 off eBay as a fixable gamble. It will get turned into something but would prefer an amp over a lamp.

Yes sorry ashdown amp, that’s me clicking on auto fill. Got a couple of other places to contact about costs. As has been said would rather fix, won’t be going in landfill thoug will be turned into a fancy lamp. Just like on those TV shows.

Popping sounds like an air leak, possibly after the carb as it’s causing the revs to lower. Any missing or split vacuum lines

I’m relieved to read this so thanks to the OP for posting it. Have had this sort of thing for decades and have never mentioned it to anyone. To know other people have them and its not just me being a horrific and loathsome individual is a very positive thing.

You don’t have to get dodgy cloned software. A £5 kkl cable of ebay, usually blue with odb to USB connection. Then download the free version of vcds lite from Rosstech, they do a full paid for version but try the free one first. It enabled me to fix various air bag faults and turn the warning lights off.

Made kitchen worktops out of scaffold boards in the OHs house. Used a pocket hole jig the fix them together and candle wax dripped in the gaps amd sealed with tung oil. Very uneven and lumpy but not my kitchen. They do look good though. Also made coffee tables with two planks and a set of pin legs. Again very uneven but look good.

50k doesn’t sound too high mileage but it will depend on how the car has been driven. If its been sat for a while it may just be surface corrosion on the clutch or flywheel that needs to scrub off. Could try finding a steepish hill and go up it in a high gear at lowish speed. Put your foot down, if the car chugs up the hill clutch would appear OK, if the revs rise and the car doesn’t speed up it could point to clutch problems.

An update! Contacted the supplier and they said no problem and sent a replacement foc and a pre paid return for the damaged one. Prior to fitting I gingerly tightened the nylock with a ring spanner just to make sure there were no issues. Fitted it today and torqued up dry with no problems. A think smear of coppaslip on the nut and threads to fend off corrosion and job done.

Not certain it was cross threaded was a fairly chunky coarse thread, tightened up with even pressure as it seated the taper. only let go when it snugged against the hub. Have contacted the supplier so will see. Was a nylock with a bit of anti seize on the threads, no sign of galling above the nut either.

    Could still be me though.

Thanks all, it’s a little 7×4 shed currently full of junk nothing fancy or workshop sized. Would only see occasional use when the weather is good. Adding sockets etc then running them off an extension feels like daisy chaining and a bad idea for no real benefit. Will replace the bulbs with an led but not fit sockets. Going to keep using the extension approach, as it can run the light and the dremel if required.

If I go ahead with a proper garden office / workshop a sparky will be used.

    Cheers

Apologies if this is a bit of a derailment, a do I need to isolate question…

Ex wife has tested positive (works in a school – who’d of thought it) we don’t live together but I do go round to pick up kids. Both myself and two children had covid in December and I also had my first vaccination last month. I appreciate the vax doesn’t prevent infection. I do lat flow tests for work (NHS) and the kids do them at school.

Do we isolate for the full 10 days or can we depend on the results of the lat flow tests? I’m keen not to transmit it to anyone or break any rules.

    Thanks

Psvr headset too, even if SW squadrons gives me motion sickness. Looking down at your legs in a smoke filled x wing cockpit whilst your astro mech fixes it was worth the expense.

Would railway sleeper or scaffold plank work? Cleaner, quicker and easier that wet concrete. Another paving slab or two?

    Edit – I’m not a builder

Clutch went on my mum’s 2016 CRV, honda charged £1400 to replace including new dmf. It had only done 34k but honda clutches are notoriously poor.

Is there a way to refurbish your current awning? If the mechanical parts are good can you replace the canopy?

A postcard in the post office window.

I sold a bangernomics A3 on Facebook market place. The number of wasted hours from no shows, never again. The only person that turned up was also the only one that could spell. They did buy it though.

Normally use ebay and will do again shortly.

ABS light could be something as simple as a corroded connecter or a duff wheel sensor. It could also be the abs pump which would run your budget.

Any EP3 civics at that price? Would guess the good ones are asking more. Might get a scruffy but mechanically sound one.

Would it be worth ringing a few car dealers to ask who they use?
