Haha, if that Anthem is 22.5 lbs then my SC Blur xc Carbon with full XTR / XO, Easton EC90, Syntace F109, tubeless RaRa Evo 2.1’s on Roval Control SL’s must be about 18 lbs on his scales… I’ll take that!

Further to the above is it best to park up in Mach and is there a connecting trail for the mile or so up to the start of Cli-Mach-X?

still_s8tannorm – that’s useful, I was kind of hoping there might be some ‘natural’ riding involved for at least one of the Mach Trails so that sounds promising. Nice to know that if I have time I could still do Climachx aswell for a more guided trail centre route.

I’ve ridden the Howies CyB Enduro the past 2 years and really enjoyed some of the moorland and natural countryside riding round there.

I tend to go by the following… ‘If the cold is in the head get out of bed, if the cold is in your chest, give the bike a rest’!!! ;-)

Cinnamon Girl – I’m posting this as I’m very hopeful that this will be a solid platform to increase the profile of women’s cycling (especially in light of the critism from Nicole Cooke following her retirement from women’s cycling).

Cyclewerx – hope the Yeti demo goes well at the weekend, just a thought though, re: TRc price. The 2013 frame and shock price is slightly lower for 2013 – £2599, I’m sure it would be possible to negotiate a 5-10% discount with a Santa Cruz dealer if you pay it all up front so that would mean you could get a 2013 TRc frame for say £2340… just a thought to add to the mix! ;-)

Thanks for info above, some good links to follow up on. Ta.

As a veggie I’ll have no need for the horse burger pie protein though! ;-)

Cycling words that aren’t cool… RAPHA.

If middle aged men think something is cool then quite frankly it isn’t.

seadog99 – These guys are incredibly helpful and are the UK Service Centre for Magura. Can’t comment on whether you’ll need a new caliper or not but deffo give them a try, they helped me out with a broken Marta caliper last year.

    Hora – No.

I have to ask but why would it be ‘bad’ to like Aljazeera? Seems to me that it’s probably been bad that you’ve been watching BBC/ITV/CNN et al making you believe that watching something produced from the Middle East might be ‘bad’… The UK is far more brainwashed than we think, this proves it… :-(

rickon – not that this will help you directly but I’ve got a Mojo with a SRAM XO drivetrain and it all works fine so the frame and gear combo should work. Sorry I can’t offer any improvement suggestions though!

Vettel passed a Torro Rosso under yellows so will retrospectively be given a post race 20sec penalty meaning Alonso would win title by 1pt, caught on his on board camera footage. Will be bad news for F1 if Vettel does have title taken away… Does this also mean Red Bull could retrospectively withdraw Webber to allow Vettel to gain the place back? Either way it’s going to get farcical if thats how Ferrari want to play it… :-(

c456 has a regular 73mm BB shell vs Whippet with BB92 Pressfit – this alone would make me go for a c456 over a Whippet! ;-) The 200g weight difference would be ‘outweighed’ by having a BB that works (and lasts)…!

Anyone on here race the Gorrick Autumn xc @ Crowthorne yesterday, how’d it go?

Oooo – CRC currently has 2402 SRAM PC991 9 speed chains available in stock, that’s alot of chains! ;-)

In all seriousness though this is a great tip.

LeeW & richen987 – cheers for that, it’s the more expensive option but going down the 120mm fork route sounds like it could be good one.

yunki – that is one seriously bling fork.

Nice atmosphere, stunning Autumn morning for racing and a great track with enough to keep riders on their toes. I unfortunately was a 1st lap retirement – tore the Racing Ralph on the rear and punctured 15mins in so hobbled to the timing gantry and called it a day after lap 1. Was running 8th or 9th at the time and looking to enjoy a further good hour or so’s racing but ce le vie – bring on the Spring Series, hope Gorrick use Tunnel Hill so I can give it another shot! :-)

Njee20 – Go on! ;-) Quick query – I haven’t raced xc properly for a good few years, as a barometer my lap times at Bristol Bikefest this year were in between yours and Gee’s – what cat should I enter for Gorrick? I was going to go for Open to get some experience but am abit worried about getting clogged in a big bunch so maybe Masters would be better for me?

Good atmosphere as there was last year and good friendly banter between riders along the way. There’s certain things that need to be sorted though, the start for example is still abit of a joke. I started about 60% through the field in the rear half but they need to seperate the 60km and 30km groups, preferably letting the 60km riders go 5-10mins before the 30km. Sooooo many ‘have a go heroes’ jump to the front and yet end up blowing up about 1km up the first climb backing everything up. I spent the first 45mins riding pretty hard to work my way through a couple of 100 riders who were grannying along or pushing.

Also 3 days since the event and still no results is slightly disappointing imo, pretty much all other events I’ve done in the past ensure they have results within 2 days.

And the one result we do know – congrats to Matt Page on a stunning fastest time, 3hrs 20mins really is awesome work on a course like that. :-)

Fookin’ ‘ell, Cav was absolute lightning there and from a good distance back aswell. As mentioned above the heli cam shot is incredible, the speed differential is maaaaassive!

tamedearth – was being rather tongue in cheek earlier, I agree with posts above, I’m sure it would be pretty tricky to notice any real difference between a 222g frame weight difference although its always nice to lose some grammes if poss! :-)

£2400 is a joke unforuntately – it’s not even a fully carbon bike ffs – no way a carbon front end should add £1k to the frame price over the alloy version. If I was in the market for that type of bike I’d spend an extra £100 and get a NomadC – 3/4 lb lighter and VPP2 is betterer than the shock actuated single pivot rear end on the Covert anyway… ;-)

The Pinkster – I’m in agreement with you, I used to have a ’97 Marin Quake 9.0 FRS – noisiest bike ever!

Not mine but someone on Retrobike has been busy updating a 1997 frame!

Ta all for the above, good to get positive feedback re: 456c at 100mm,I spend majority of riding time in Chilterns or Cotwolds so plenty of singletrack but relatively smooth, wouldnt really need more than 100mm travel therefore. Looks like it could be a good choice. Question now is do On One do a STW discount! ;-)

Yep, unfortunately K9 went bust. Real shame as Luis was a top chap and as could be seen from his suspension articles in Dirt was incredibly passionate (& hugely knowledgeable!) about mtbs and suspension designs. He left the UK following the company folding and is now back in Venezuela I think.

I’m clearly biased as an owner but imo best bike ever (in the context of xc / trail riding) – love mine to bits! 2011 SC Blur xc Carbon with ’11 Fox F120rlc FIT forks in my case, it’s a complete hoot and utterly rapid! :-)

Bleach / toilet bleach is your friend – I used a liberal amount to clean an old camelbak a few years back, left it in there with some water overnight and all the black gunk had turned white and flaky by the follwoing day. Washed it out a few times and it was good as new. First ride or two it tasted ever so faintly of chlorine but this soon passed.

I’ve got a 2011 Blur xc Carbon with ’11 Fox F120rlc’s (22.5 lb build)and a Mojo with 2012 RP23 and Lyrik U-Turns (28 lb build). I love riding the Mojo, a super bike but the Blur is undoubtedley a quicker bike and with the 120mm forks the headangle isn’t far off the angles of the Mojo at 160mm aswell so is a hoon downhill and a rocket going up. If I had to have choose one bike I’d not have much hesitation in choosing the Blur xc Carbon if I had too.

2005 Specialized Demo 8 – the rib cage section where the rear shock was positioned cracked, by all accounts a common failure on the 2005’s. Spesh said the bike was fine to continue riding as if it broke there the bike was still remain together. However they were very, very good at replacing it and within 3 working days I had a replacement 2006 Demo 8 frame all built up – in a rather cool looking anodized bronze colour.
