£2k for the Soul will build you a great bike of your choice and are they highly rated. No doubt someone will completely disagree with me in the next few posts about both bikes……
I like both equally. I do alot of solo riding as I work un-social hours.
Its great at times during the week when everyone else is at work and you have the local trails all to yourself.
I found riding solo last year really beneficial for my endurance training as I could go at my own pace and just enjoy the time / countryside on the bike.
I’ll be getting a set of the kevlar lock-ons. I had the standard Kevlar grips but they would slide up the bar on each ride even with the Renthal glue applied.
Its got to be a Cotic Soul. Ive ridden an Orange Crush for the last 3 years and a ’12 Five this year. I’ll be buying a Soul at some point and building it up over a period of time. I’ve got other priorities right now so it’ll probably take a while, but its ging to happen.
This, plus a Cotic Soul Frame, plus Hope Hoops, then sell the Crush frame and wheels, would be a good start to a half decent build on the cheap I reckon!
I’ve ridden it singletrack most weekends and done 100 miles in a day over 17 hours and 20 minutes over the South Downs Way. Anything trail orientated, it’ll do it!
Just to add to my original post – I have now achieved the SDW in a day and what a day it was!
The five of us went from Winchester to Eastbourne with great conditions in 17 hours and 20 minutes. It would have no doubt been quicker if we didn’t have 5 punctures and a chain break. Also, riding in the dark for at least 3-4 hours can really slow the progress as its quite hairy only having a limited vision!
I made a blog of the ride and it can be viewed here if anyone is interested:
Definitely more helpful than the latter comment, yeah. ;-) on a serious note, I am happy to spend around £60-£70 on a saddle but I will agree, the more expensive the saddle does not necessarily mean it will be better.
Orange will do a “Raw” frame or “Raw Laquered” if requested, they just prefer not to as they recommend that a spray of paint will be more beneficial to preserve longevity.
Bikeactive have sold loads of Raw 5’s over the last year. Just have a look on their FB page. If the customer wants, the customer gets…..
45mph earlier this week on a back road from Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
It felt extremely quick for a bicycle, wouldn’t want to go much quicker than that!
