My Honda FRV runs on it, has just passed 150k miles and was converted at 10k. Runs without any problems. Costs just under 10p mile for a 6seater 2l petrol car. I think it’s great. As Diesel starts to fall out of favour I can see it becoming popular once more. Some of the new prins kits are pretty advanced too.

Sounds all good, if it starts to get hot, or swollen(more swollen probably) and if your knee gets to stiff to move think about seeking further advice, preferably in person not stw! ;-)

I wonder if the response would be different if it was one of Kylie’s (in a friday kylie kind of way) new business ventures. Maybe a missed opportunity?

She’s working today, Saturday and Sunday, 9am till 10pm. She was working Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 till 5.
I can’t see how that is safe. I couldn’t guarantee that my last patient of the day got the quality of care that the first person did if I was working those hours.

And to think that is classed as part time.

    That sucks for part time.

My ‘Full Time’ week this week. Monday/Tues 8am till 8.30pm Wed/Thurs 8am till 5pm Fri/Sat/Sun 8pm till 8.30am – a cool 80 hours. In fact Ive already worked 43 hours this week before I start 3 night shifts. I really dont want to work any longer hours – I dont know how it would be possible!

I think Dragon, you are a actually unwittingly supporting our arguments! It’s very true we need all these people – that’s the whole stupid thing about this 7 day hunt rubbish. We don’t work alone just having more doctors on the weekend will make no difference it’s all the other staff that are needed too, but that costs money. Hunt knows this, what this is really about is bringing down Doctors pay, and then it will be nurses, physios etc.

Small hernia’s are more risky than the larger ones.

Thats true, because the opening they get through is small hence its more likely to pinch them and prevent them reducing. Big ones don’t normally do that – because the opening is so big – big ones can still commonly cause bowel obstruction though.

    benjamins11

Some types are at risk of ‘strangulating’ which is dangerous but I think that would be a more advanced / larger hernia than what you’re talking about

Spigellian hernias can certainly obstruct – it doesnt have to be large ones.

    benjamins11

Certainly the history your describing sounds like a hernia of some description – it might pop out when you cough?
Nothing to panic about – provided that you can pop it back in easily – go and see your GP and get an appointment to see a surgeon.

If at any point it wont go back in at all – then thats an emergency and needs to be seen pronto – an irreducible hernia is a surgical emergency – because it can cause the bowel to go necrotic and perforate or obstruct – both of which make you very sick.

    Crap door though.
Yeah I thought that – he went to all that effort – even put heating in, and then his door was bobbins.

Also if he could charge his go pro up everyday, why not just get some tools or go to Wickes for some tiles ;-)

These arguments are going round and round in circles! We have been very clear what a first year Doctor earns before and after banding throughout this thread. The reason that the before banding salary is relevant is because its the only directly applicable thing to what other graduates earn. Do you think if other graduates regularly worked the weekend and nights they would be content with putting it down as overtime and doing it for the basic salary?

    benjamins11
    Free Member

I’m five years qualified my basic salary is 32k I think plus 50% banding so I’m earning just under 50k – its not bad money
Too true, that’s great money. How old are you ? And how does the banding thing work ? Based in London ?

Im 33 – i dont think a basic of 32k is that exceptional to be honest. The banding has been explained on here. Its only 50k because of the fact that we work nights and weekends plus 48h average per week.

Ive just got christmas rota through – im working christmas day, boxing day, the day after on 13 hour days plus nights new years eve plus night before. Guess how much extra i will be payed for that. Yup nil. I think we deserve our money.

Once more again though – we are not asking for a pay rise, just not a pay cut or worse hours.

Just 5 minutes. If you want to post to the conversation at least have the decency to read the previous posts. I wish 22k really was 40k but I’m afraid it isn’t its about 28k as I have said. It’s basic maths really – that would be a roughly 100% uplift. As you said yourself it between 30-50, but not all jobs are banded either. We get that banding because we work long hours and nights – many other people would earn that sort of money if they worked the hours we do.

    benjamins11

Yes there is going to be a rise in basic pay as part of the deal.
Can you tell the class what it’s going to be ?

Erm..no because they won’t say. Which means it can’t be going to be very much.

    benjamins11

I certainly haven’t seen anyone asking for more money, we are asking to not have our hours extended and to not have a pay cut. Hardly unreasonable.

    benjamins11

OK so basic starting salary is I think 23, not 40. That’s based on you doing 37hours per week, you do 48 normally plus nights and weekends so you get a banding. That’s either a 30-50 uplift on that, as a first year doctor you earn around 30k.

I’m five years qualified my basic salary is 32k I think plus 50% banding so I’m earning just under 50k – its not bad money but if I worked the same hours as a manager in mcD’s ( not that I’m criticising them) I would earn more.

To get up to 56k you are at the very top of the junior doctor tree I.e. nearly a consultant probably 12 years post medical school, a very experienced and competent doctor. The most senior doctor in a hospital at night for instance.

Because I like being a doctor, because I trained for 5 years at medical school and then some afterwards, because I think it’s worthwhile. It’s not about the money it never was, we get paid fine but only because we work bloody long hours. If Jeremy twunt gets his way I will potentially get a 30% pay cut for doing the same work. That’s just not fair.

I think given the responsibility and the training we have we deserve a reasonable wage. How many people go into doing something in their daily job thinking if I **** something up I might kill this person, I think that everytime I give an anaesthetic to someone.

I’d take issue with the comments above aling the lines of being paid to train. Our ‘training’ takes many years yes but whilst we are training we are running the hospitals as well. You would have been very thankful for this ‘trainee’ intubating you or giving your wife an epidural whilst in labour.I’m currently working my 72nd hour of 76 this week, on day 7 you try and tell me that I have just been training that whole time.

For all of that I would earn more per hour if I was a manager at McDonalds.

But I especially wouldn’t on Rivaroxaban.

Different drugs. Warfarin is a nasty drug that needs to be monitored all the time with lots of side effects, Rivaroxaban is has a wider therapeutic range and so does not need monitoring. The crucial difference is that onnwarfarin if you have an otb and subsequent head injury we can reverse its effects quickly with drugs ( beriplex plus vitamin k) with Rivaroxaban that can’t be done so you will just carry on bleeding. I personally wouldn’t mountain bike if I was taking either.

Symptoms you are describing sound like balanitis xerotica obliterans.

Basically hardening skin on your glans and foreskin. Can be treated with circumscsion and then it goes away.

I had it done last year at age of 33. Bit swollen afterwards but not too bad! All good now, few weeks off the bike though!

I’m an anaethatist not a gp, so not good with rashes (better with people who aren’t breathing) but I would say it looks like a tinea rash. Basically athletes foot in other areas. It doesn’t look like psoriasis and the distribution would be wrong too I.e. psoriasis would normally (but not always ) be near skin flexures elbows etc.

Im 33 – have a 2.5 year old. Has changed life beyond measure, but without question for the better. You love them more than you can describe. Its great fun as watching as he learns to do things like ride his balance bike. Cant wait till he’s bigger and will be another friend to go camping/biking/climbing with!

We looked up the Which stuff.

They recommended Cybex Juno Fix – which we have. Its not rear facing, but uses a cushion that straps into the seatbelt and then the shoulders arent fixed in – look it up on youtube – means the head doesn’t experience the same forces in an impact as they would with traditional straps.

Its been a great seat – unlike the rear facing seats its really easy to swap between cars – and works with or without isofix. I cant recommend it highly enough.

I would agree with alot of the comments made here, the system can be incredibly slow and tedious at times. Its frustrating for all concerned, one corollary to all that though – most of the frustrations relate to elective or non time critical care – if you are suddenly taken very ill the system generally jumps to action very quickly.

Most of the staff within the hospitals also think these processes are ridiculously slow and stupid its just that generally we dont make the systems and are too busy doing our jobs as they stand to spend too much time on the politics of the underlying systems!!

I think the touran uses the 2.0 tdi BKD engine. Its not hard to change the turbo yourself – it all comes out through the exhaust tunnel. I changed the one that I had on my A3 with the same engine in it.

I tried the innotec turbo cleaner initially but found that it didnt really help much. I bought a recon turbo from ‘the turbo guy’ in Glasgow for £330 and it was brilliant. Add in new oil feed pipe and oil and filter change and thats alot of change from 1400!!

Osteomyelitis is basically infection in the bone. Takes along time to treat with antibiotics, can need amputation. Not cool.

Reading this stuff makes me feel mega lucky. 5 years ago I fell 9m onto my head from off stanage. Save being knocked unconscious for quite a while and a big head lac I got off scot free. Got a ride in a helicopter too, grim experience!

I anesthatise for a lot of these metalwork removals. Seems as has been said they only remove if causing pain or impinging movement. Often best left as osteomyelitis is not fun!

Interestingly enough it doesn’t matter that much if you are on it or not. If you are ever unfortunate enough to be in a position to be suitable for organ donation the speacilist organ donation nurses will always talk to the family. Being on the register just makes their opening gambit easier. If the family says no, even if your on the register the answer is still no!

Saw a forty year old road cyclist last week with a fractured hip falling on ice as well. Road bikes and ice are a bad combo it would seem.

If the bolts arent causing any trouble leave them be, second operation is putting you at further risk of infection. Anaesthetised a patient today to have his hip joint totally removed because of infection secondary to an arthroscopy, not cool.
