using the same logic, we should say ‘The Lake’ when talking about The Lake District…

(if anything, ‘The Lake’ is even more robust; there is only one lake in The Lake District, but i can show you lots of Peaks in The Peak district…)

This is irrelvant, I’m not saying it doesn’t makes sense to call it the Peaks, the fact is that its called the Peak.

Its the Peak not Peaks. That is all.

Seriously, did no one read the bit about the OP living in a flat ?

Yes but thats the way it works here – disregard the original question and recommend something impractical.

Yes but once you have it all, getting subsequent tools is v cheap

Thing is air tools are so much cheaper and more powerful plus having compressed air is so handy for lots of things, a compressor is the way to go if you can.

In true STW style, I love my air gun, it rattles anything off in seconds.

Nope – side lights on a Honda Jazz are the same. So much faff that I ordered LED bulbs to fit instead because they wouldn’t blow. Except I didn’t test them first and, although they work, they’re a slightly chavvy blue white colour… :/

I presume they are the same as the civic I.e. through the wheel arch liner. A bit of a faff the first time then a two minute job when you get the hang of it?

2006 VW Passat requires front bumper removal to change the driver’s side headlight bulb: 2-3 hours workshop time at a main dealer! (Luckily there are shortcuts where you only have to take the front wheel off !?! )

    Am I missing something?

Its most likely metronidazole. There are tablets but probably would not add up to correct dose for your child – kids abx tend to be prescribed by weight. I can fully believe that there is only one flavour – so i would say both your GP and pharmacist are speaking the truth.

In terms of whether to take or not – its probably just bacterial vaginosis – not a problem in itself but that can go on to cause pelvic inflammatory disease which can be a cause of infertility – so if it were my child I would be getting her to take them.

Oh, and following the computer I replaced the MAP & MAF on my wife’s Passat trying to solve a cutting out problem, before Googling and finding it was just a bad earth. The internet is absolutely awesome for diagnosing car problems, I don’t know how people fixed stuff in the olden days.

    +1

Sort of true, but I’ve seen loads of parts fitted to vehicles that were not required because the garage/home mechanic believed the fault code. Any decent automotive tech will verify the fault first. Unfortunately there are far too many numpties in the trade who will throw parts at a vehicle, charge the customer and still not fix the problem.

I totally agree with you I’m not trying to say that its always easy – and not often done wrong by home mechanics or bad professionals just that the modern dogma of cars are too complicated to do anything to is simply not true.

In fact I don’t think scheduled servicing has become any more difficult at all, yet most people believe its totally outside of their abilities.

Ive currently got a Honda FRV and a T5. The Honda hardly ever goes wrong, but I hate working on it – its just not made to be taken apart and the parts feel cheap. The T5 goes wrong but I love working on it, it comes apart easily all the parts feel quality.

Availability of third party software and hacks has become a major factor in my car buying decisions.

The other thing that I’m tending to find is that cars don’t just go wrong – when they do its because of a design fault and therefore will have likely occured in hundreds of the same model – a bit of judicious googling never fails to find something.

Thats true – but I still think its interesting that most people on the street say ‘oh modern cars are so complicated that you cant do anything to them’ when actually the opposite is true. Its just the tools needed these days are different.

I think its a big con sold by the car industry to protect servicing income.

Modern cars are actually easier to work on that older ones imo. This is because they are actually designed for manufacture, unlike old cars which were barely designed at all.

I’d tend to agree, with modern electronics when you plug a laptop in they largely tell you whats wrong with them. Once inside lots of things are modular.

I think its only Renaults that are so badly designed that it takes 45mins to change a lightbulb.

VAG cars might not be as reliable as people make out but its always possible to work on them plus the availability of know how is amazing e.g. vcds, elsawin etc and parts supply is top notch through TPS.

My understanding that all of the T5 2 ltr TDI engines are essentially the same even down to the turbo – so ripe for big gains on a remap. Mines currently 84bhp and I cant wait to get it remapped.

Little Benjamins had just learned to ride his Cnoc 14 at the tender age of 3 and 2 months, except he hadn’t quite got the hang of brakes. I was trailing after him like a dutiful dad, get to a hill I’m following but perhaps not quite as close as I should have been. All of a sudden I realise that he is going faster than he wants and that I’m now sprinting to be able to catch up with him. I’m shouting brake – he grabs rather too much brake – cue front wheel washing out and his face incontact with the floor. Blood everywhere, him distraught and wife not speaking to me. He then refused to ride his pedal bike for another 6 months.

Ok so no bikes in, but you can see how there is space for them plus the bed above

The ITU/ICU bed issue is more unique to major trauma centres (like on this programme)

Your average DGH just doesn’t have enough ward beds.

    Both areas are being pushed

This is total bollox. We don’t have enough of either – and the lack of ward beds often means that we cant get them out of our ITU when well, further compounding the problem.

I work in North Wales – UK has lowest number of ITU beds per head of population in Europe – we have lowest number of ITU beds per head of population in UK – go figure!

but trying to sleep with two bikes in the main van is always going to be a bit cramped I think.

Its really not, the trade off is that you cant fit a kitchen in as well very easily with a Kombi Bed.

The other factor to consider with all this is crash strength – to get a fully crash tested rock and roll bed is pretty pricy (but important if you are putting kids in the back)if you use a kombi bed you use VW seats on vw mounting points so get the peace of mind that your seating is good in the event of crash.

    Exploria Kombi Bed

Plus the bed and seats can be removed easily for when you want a full size van again.

Have a look at a Kombi Bed from Exploria. Ive got one in the back of mine. It makes a fully flat king size bed once its out, but with enough room to put two full size bikes underneath it. I have a two seater kombi seat in front of it, so van can seat 5 or even 6 if you have a 3 person bench yet still take two bikes plus make a bed.

Penzance is an ok base to explore from, Porthleven a few miles along the road is a much nicer place to stay.

Plastics in Morriston is an extremely good service. I used to work there – and have anaesthetised on that list many times – you must have a brave 7 year old to tolerate much being done under local !

Apart from having to live with the knowledge they were driving a vehicle that killed someone.

Do you think train drivers that are involved in suicides just hop back into the cab for the next shift?

Good point, but I still think that its a bit of a storm in a teacup – maybe that videos a bad example but I don’t think what they are doing makes them public enemy number one.

I find Lidl saves us about 25% ish over tesco. The trick is findings the things that are good and keeping to the simple things. Top up what you can’t get at tesco or such like.

To be honest, the £25 quid saving over the normal price isn’t staggering.
