The other side to this is as well, whilst yes Gps are best placed to know whether a patient is sick or not, the new system requires fit notes, i.e. a note to say what a patient can do – Gps are not employment experts. How on earth are they meant to say what a patient is able to perform at work. I think a specialist service would be far better.

just bunged some k seal in my a3 with a porous head and it seems to have stopped leaking coolant, nothing horrible has happened either. Various mechanics have recommended it to me, for 10 quid its a low risk experiment.

[Youve just installed a new shower and the bath is at high risk of leaking with a lot of water in, so the first thing you did was to run a bath? No sympathy, sorry ]

In my defence I hadn’t actually got the shower working as yet, so yes it was a high risk strategy, but thats just the kinda guy that I am.

Not good, the epoxy goes a bit soft when it gets wet and hot. We now have a sizeable puddle under the bath. Probably didnt help that my wife decided to run the deepest bath in history. grr.

thanks guys, its on a corner so of the bath, so projects solution is not going to be a goer, first bath post temporary repair currently being run so fingers crossed. Fibreglass repair kit and expanding foam to be sought today !!

fibre glass bath. Its not an expensive one, screwfix will do a new one for about 70quid. Temporary fix is a piece of plastic form a croissant box loads of epoxy. Luckily i live in a bungalow, so no risk of ceiling coming down when it inevitably leaks!

    thanks guys!

I took a catalytic converter to a metal recyclers from my wifes polo I had just replaced yesterday. They gave me £45 quid for it, and I was previously going to throw it away – so I say break it yourself for spares and sell em on ebay!

I live on Gower, bout 20 mins out of the city centre. Its lovely. There is riding from my doorstep, surfing from my doorstep. Afan and Brechfa not far, Clyne valley as well. Yeah the city is a bit of a dump, but its a really lovely place out of the city.
the first pic is outside my front door, the second is 20mins down the road.

Stoats brother – do you actually have a laryngoscope at your practice? Thats a pretty brave GP to be tubing somebody!

I work in Wales and we are usually pretty backward and I too am shocked that there are Gp practices without an ECG machine!

a&e, would you really want a monkey manning a walk in ecg machine analysing the ecg for you anyway?

as above, just a little bit with the spoony thing. Full log not required.

from a slightly cynical perspective. I was overhearing the sister on my Ward discussing that apparently the nursing union are considering strike action over pensions ( which I massively disagree with) on 30th Nov. Who runs the care quality commission? timing of the release of this report seems a bit convinient to remove public support from the nurses?

I work on an elderly care ward. The care couldn’t be better – i’m always totally amazed by how good the nursing staff are – both qualified and unqualified.

I think one point that needs to be made here – that even on a really good ward plenty of our elderly patients are getting malnourished – mostly because its often part of the dementia process that the patients simply lose their appetite – no amount of forcing/encouraging them to eat makes any difference. I dont know whether this report addresses that issue?

Don’t get one in black. All the undertakers I’ve seen at the hospital seem to have a Vito.

I’ve just graduated from a four year course. 35 would be the upper age range of the year group but certainly not too old. I’m working with a guy who is 41 in his second year of medicine at the mo. its hard work mind but good fun!

Of course I understand that, don’t be so aggressive. I still think 19.5k with no specific qualifications is not unreasonable.

Yeah sure the pay at the end is good. The point remains though that 19.5k is knocking on the door of early graduate money so I don’t think its bad pay ergo somebody should want to do it.

yeah but as already said it doesn’t take 5 years to learn to drive a van, lots of graduate jobs start at 19.5k. 19.5k is really not a bad wage for an essentially unskilled job.

p.s. doctors are ‘in training’ for about 10 years post qualification – we are seeing patients and prescribing drugs and the NHS couldn’t function without us, so to say that you would be chuffed to earn that whilst you were ‘in training’ shows little understanding of whats going on.

I recon that 19.5k to drive a van is loads, I’ve just started work as a Doctor and I’m only earning 21 grand before tax. Makes you think it wasn’t really worth the effort!

I live on Gower, just next to the aformentioned three cliffs campsite. I can confirm that technically it is Gower not the Gower, but I could show you a number of locals who dont realise this and nobody really gives a crap. As you were.

spds do last forever. I am on my second pair and I have been riding for about 15 years now. First pair I upgraded after about 8 because they were single sided, this pair going strong with no attention for last 7 ish!!

I recently bought a vw box from a breakers for 450. recon was looking over 1000. the box came with warranty and had done only 40k, have a look on ebay. another tip is if you find out what the box code is it will likely be fitted to lots of other vag group cars so i found its cheaper to buy the same box from a skoda or seat than it is for an audi, even though the box is utterly identical.

There probably wont be a haynes manual for the octavia, but there certainly is one for a Golf and its pretty similar once you get down to it. I used to use a golf manual for a seat toledo which is the same car underneath as well.

Yeah I agree, its the stuff around penmaen and bishopston that people dont tend to know. Clyne isn’t too far too, and can be linked in.

Probably a good thing to check as leverage to use with your local main dealer. Our local honda dealer knocked about 4 grand of the price of my dads new car to match an online deal that he found, after initially saying that the best discount he could do was 5%

Its not exactly a biking paradise, but there are some nice bits and pieces, you just need to know where to look.

I can throw a stone to it from my front door – I live in Penmaen just above the bay, its a wonderful place to live, and i have some pretty good biking just outside my front door.

Series 3 Landrover 109 ex military 1982reg – Chassis was mostly rust – ended up welding the back foot and half of the chassis back together from plate steel! So thirsty and noisy too, but alot of fun.
110 300tdi Landrover (engine taken out of a discovery) 1989reg – tonka toy with a lift and snorkel and big tyres. Also required much welding, although less than the previous one. Also had a penchant for eating timing belts a little worryingly.
1.6 Seat Toledo 2000reg. Inherited from my parents. Dull but practical. Got to 125000 miles and partexed it.
Audi A3 2.0tdi 2004reg currently. Most recent purchase, got uber cheap, has numerous problems (over boosting turbo, dodgy EGR valve, gearbox went a month ago etc) but its very quick and pretty economical (bar the gearbox). Looking forward to fiddling with it over the summer to fix all the problems.

Wish I still had a Landrover but doesn’t make very much financial sense!

Ive got a M size 405 and have had it for a couple of years now. Climbs brilliantly, absolute rubbish that it has poor traction uphill. I love it to bits. That is all.
