Is there a risk the units are damaged removing them to fit the packers? I won’t be doing it myself.

It will go as fast as you can pedal it.

I’m racing this season on my Solaris singlespeed, if you’re not racing for places just batter yourself, try to chase down every be you see and enjoy it.

Not got a current pic of mine but running it single speed, rigid fork (2.4 Ardent) with a dropper post, its very good fun.

Dave E, what gear ratio are you running?

    It always ends in tears.

If folk are attracted to each other enough to bump nasties then at some point emotions will get involved and a decision will need to be made.

Having been a bit of a rogue in my 20s this sort of stuff eventually grinds you down and personally, the folk who can do it in a completely detached way generally lack empathy and display other traits also associated with sociopaths.

If you wanted to compare Spirit to another tubeset then its nearest equivalent would be 853; the difficulty in comparing steel tubes is that the builders skill and knowledge brings so much to the equation.

Once your in the 853 ballpark you’re going to get a good, light frame if built well.

My Cotic Solaris is 853 and that gets hammered so I’m slightly dubious that stainless will add anything from a durability point of view to a road frame, personally this whole corrosion free thing is getting us to buy into a need that doesn’t exist.

I’ve never been in a thread on here where 7 posts in there’s still general agreement, is everyone feeling ok??

A non stainless with big bb and headtube areas will be stiffer than stainless without?

Correct, it all comes down to frame design, however, with 953 would could have a big BB and headtube with less material. Carbon can make a good or a poor frame, as can steel.

When I had my Bob Jackson built (853) we talked at length about stainless and their opinion was aside from destroying tools in the workshop due to how hard it is to machine that I wouldn’t notice a difference in ride between an 853 v 953 of the same design.

it is a ‘tougher’ material so won’t dent as easily but then a dent has never really been an issue with steel and neither has rust really, just look at all the audaxers on 30 year old 531 frames.

953 has a higher tensile strength meaning it can be drawn into thinner profile tubes and create a marginally lighter frame.

Ride quality is negligible, that comes down to the frame design.

I don’t download yet to be released films from the PirateBay but if I had, and I didn’t, it would be Pain and Gain.

On paper you’d kick a film with Marky Mark and the Rock straight out of the door but it is genuinely one of the best black comedies (yet a true story) I’ve seen in ages

That looks like a cool ride m1kea 8O non of the climbs were shocking want to call your mum hard, the second stage looks much tougher, 10000 feet on that. There’s talk of that being ridden next month but there’s a lot of busy A road involved and not sure a group of 60 on them is the best idea

We had no one knocked off but one came off at 40mph descending off Buttertubs and hit a dry stone wall……and walked away 8O.

I think you’ve got a point about the volume of traffic B.A.Nana and it was probably a good thing we split up but even then there were sections where cars couldn’t pass despite us lining out.

Add the fact that several parts of the route are popular with sports bikers/fast drivers and its likely a matter of time before there’s an accident, locals all very friendly and happy to see us though, especially little village stores

I’m with you mate; had to have my cat put to sleep today :( Charlie was 14 and had a good life of micing, fighting foxes and stealing fish from ponds but went missing 2 days ago and a neighbour called this morning to say he was in a bush in their garden.

Glad to have got him home but he was a good lad and will be missed.

Focus Estate 1.6 TDCI, currently getting 60mpg from mine at 70mph, that drops to 50mpg if I drive at 80, which I don’t.

Some guys in my road club, Alba Rosa CC in Leeds, are doing it.

Plenty of hills round here but a lack of time means I’d struggle to do it.

We worked out that it would be 44 times up the East Chevin near Otley, if you know the climb that’s not a something you’d relish.

Same issue myself, someone told me its GPS drift??? There’s a segment I was after that’s about 20 metres from a main road, the KOM is blatantly on a road ride and yet his route gradually drifts into the woods and he gets KOM by 6mph faster than anyone else.

I guess this means you can drift away from a segment as well.

Not followed the court case but as they’ve not done him for sex with a minor it looks like they have mitigated to some degree.

At the end of the day he took someones daughter without their consent and put he parents through hell.

Greybeard, while the builder was registered at the time he’s now in jail (was banned from being a director from a previous bankruptcy) and been diisowned by the said bodies inc his liability insurer and none were really valid due to the ban hence my stress at finding a different route.

G of R, it is trace and access so hoping they’ll include creating a channel in the slab to allow proper repair.

N.B before I get flamed I contacted all the professional bodies before instructing him and everything was legit, aside from the plumber all the subcontractors we’re cool and some have offered free advice regarding this and also were stung by his actions

Wrightyson, the issue isn’t whether it can be rerouted (it could) but that most insurance companies (mine inc) cover ‘detect and access’ but not the physical repair of the pipe.

As the pipe is not in ducting it can’t be removed and replaced nor will the regs allow a joint in the pipe within the screed floor.

Basically there s no point digging up the floor as we can’t repair what’s there and the only option is a reroute which the insurance doesn’t cover.

So basically, no builder to chase, no come back from the building control who

rely on the builders and tradesmen completing work to a satisfactory standard.

yet charge me £500 for their trusting nature meaning I’m likely to have to cover it all myself.

Here’s what Building Control have said.

    “Thank you for your email.

It concerns me that you now have a leak in your hot water system.

Under Building Regulations we are legally required to complete statutory inspections, unfortunately the work you are referring to is not included as one of these inspections.

As we are not on site every day, we are unable to inspect every aspect of the work, and rely on the builders and tradesmen completing work to a satisfactory standard. I have checked our site records, and although we completed numerous inspections on site, we have no record of viewing the internal water pipes, which is not uncommon.

I suggest you contact your builder with regards to your concerns, and repairing the leak.

Obviously, if you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.”

Boblo, I’m assuming the slab needs to be dried so the floor will need to come up.

I 100% agree the best course of action is re routing but the insurance won’t pay for that only digging up the floor and my as my contract was with the jailed builder and not the sub contracted plumber I’ve got no one to chase.

I’m hoping the insurance may pay for the ‘access’ to reroute but not the new piping itself.
