just had a look and the tube upgrades are in the side bar, £180 for 853 (its gone up since I got mine 2 years ago).

I’m 6’2″, I had a bike fit a few years back and the stock geometry on the 59cm was within mm of the the recommendations.

    It was my motivation.

I live in Leeds so got to go to the Jackson workshop, chat, see them building so it was a nice experience.

Its still not a Ricky Feather but from a functionality point of view its no less of a bike.

I genuinely can’t fault it, I’m the weak link.

Hora, its an 853 Olympus Road. Its a 59cm built up with Ultegra/DuraAce mix, it weighs just under 20 pounds with 32 spoke wheels buts its a big bike. The forks are Columbus, nice curved blades that suit the bike.

I guess the geometry is what they used to call ‘stage racer’, slightly slacker head angle but stable beyond belief.

I bought some ‘climbing’ wheels from Strada last year and they brought it alive.

I reckon the lugs add 1/4 pound but this one in a 52cm is 17 pounds.

    1. Have a number in mind before you go in, be realistic compared to the market and not what other people in the company are earning, they may well be over paid.
    2. Have supporting evidence – in addition to my job description I do a, b, c, d e and these bring X £ to your company, present your worth.
    3. Give them ideas, I think we could save money by, increase margin because etc

Sadly the days of pay rises due to time served, loyalty etc are gone in general so sell yourself and give them the reasons they need to retain you

My friends wife died suddenly 18 months ago, 3 weeks after the birth of their second child; he was, shall we say, “finding comfort” within 6 months and did introduce one woman to his kids but has yet to have a relationship.

It’s been taken differently by different friends but as has already been said, it’s his journey, and aside from feeling he needs to put his kids first in any decision he makes outside of that it’s none of anyone’s business how soon or when.

It’s him who has to lay alone in bed at night thinking of what he and his sons lost and what they need to be happy again, no one else.

I’m entered but got lower back issues at the moment so not overly confident; contacted the organiser but was told no transfer of place/no deferment to next year/no refund……they will keep my money and charge someone else £50 to take my place though, that sounds fair.

Exactly what Northwind says. One Up is great but shifting on the 16 T supplied with it is poor, got my 16 T XT gifted from a friend who got it from Rose Bikes.

Shifting on and off the 40 T is smooth, most of my set up tweeks were B screw issues on the 11 T.

The instructions that came with my One Up 40 t cog said add 4 links but I expect that’s specific to the size of that cog.

When I was running a standard cassette the usual plus 2 links worked fine.

I miss mine, brilliant car, didn’t skip a beat in 1200000 miles. Apparently there’s going to be a 1.5 diesel with 140 bhp and less than 100g/km co2 in the next launch

It could be that our road got missed out but for those of you living in Leeds have you received any info through the letterbox as yet from the council on road closures etc?

I know its on the website but we live about 200m from the route and have seen nothing, I’m predicting angry residents and chaos.

Big sheet of timber off the back of a lorry while doing 70mph on the A1, fortunately no passenger at the time but it could have been very messy in different circumstances, definitely one of my nine lives.

Kingofbiscuits, just remembered you live down the road from me, I’ll like be riding on the MVT on Tuesday evening if you want to try the 2.4 Ardent

I never had a 2.4 Ardent on the rear but currently got one up front and it’s a nice tyre. Rode it on a rigid fork through winter and it’s surprisingly capable in gloop, very different to the 2.25.

Not slow in the dry either at took the KOM on two climbs with it on yesterday.

+1 for both Garage and CrossTrax; Al at Garage built up a road bike for me immaculately right down to getting his girlfriend wife in to wrap the bartape due to her skills wrapping squash racquets.

CrossTrax are my goto local shop, great service, often do wonders at short notice and frequently amaze me with how little money they ask for, they reward loyalty and in return maintain it.

    You would if you were.

It’s about pride, a feeling of belonging; that unspoken knowledge that your just better. To the outside world we’re much like the Scots, but with the generosity removed. If your on the inside though, it’s mint.

    THIS!!

I’m fortunate enough that I could quite easily relocate to Sydney, San Diego or Lyon with my current company but I couldn’t bring myself to leave.

Everytime I turn the corner out onto the Chevin as I head out of Leeds and I see the Dales laid out in front of me I’m blown away with just how lucky I am.

You just never get bored of Yorkshires awesomeness.

I understand people’s anger but personally I just find it all very sad. Sad we live in a society that can breed such hatred, sad for Lee Rigbys family and all the witnesses and sad for the killers parents who I’m sure never dreamt the kids they loved would do this. It’s all quite depressing really.

    Thanks for all the advice.

We’re based in Leeds but fortunately he is registered at an NHS dentist; as someone, touchwood, whose never had to use any NHS service my whole life, I was having Daily Mail type images of doors being slammed in my face for something that ultimately is non essential treatment apart from the cosmetic aspect.

I’ll let you know how we get on.

Interestingly, I’m still waiting for acknowledgement of my warranty registration for a Viessman boiler fitted back in October.

A quick Google will let you know they don’t have the greatest rep when it comes to customer service, but the boilers are generally good.

    How old is yours?

    CrossTrax in Leeds.

Always helpful, great mechanics and great value.

Dropped my bike in late one Saturday afternoon with no notice and they shortened my hoses and bled my brakes within the hour then only wanted a tenner.

Even if something was cheaper online I’d pay more just for their service.
