The Short wheelbase sprinter is a better van and usually for less money too. We have an extra long wheelbase one of an older vintage and its awesome!

So should we come up with a generic, “look for this in a BSO” list for people to use? I.e (correct me if I’m wrong)
    Rigid F&F
    Minimal gears
    V-Brakes

    Do I make sense?

I saw someone with upside down riser bars the other day (lowers?).

I run my On one OG bars as “lowers”, and its excellent!

Shimano and tighten the retention spring up tight?

Shimano gears, I have an irrational hatred of SRAM. And the Surly Karate Monkey, I’ll never be without mine now, its perfect!
Having ripped the a*se out of 2 pairs of endura shorts now, I’m not buying them again!

Lead colour? Could just strip the paint off to achieve the same effect?

I saw Steve Peat whilst they were filming the Stigmata video, I can even tell you when in the video I was stood behind the camera! Disappointingly, I’d don’t recognise him in a helmet, hood and beard :'(

I wouldn’t recommend Triple S, I was quoted just over £40 plus VAT, ended up costing me £93 as they neglected to tell me about the £20 acid bath, disappointed tbh as the finish is excellent.

Zealous Division? Gets rave reviews for everything other than comfort.

So you can’t turn them upside down without them emptying? Seems odd?

Bonesetter- I can’t find where you’ve found the chainstay length of the stache, but 405mm would be crazy especially with 29+ tires. The Zealous Division ( http://zealousbikeco.com/?portfolio=division-frameset ) has very very short chainstays and they only quote at 415mm. I’m a bit confused if I’m honest….

soobalias- Single speeds look the best anyway, so arguing over the appearance of a 34 vs 32 tooth front cog seems pretty trivial to me….

I’ve just built these rims http://www.merlincycles.com/stans-notubes-ztr-flow-rims-white-29er-pair-74867.html onto superstar switch ultralight hubs and they’re brilliant!

The last bad click I had was the star nut on the underside of the stem cap. I’d tightened the top cap so much that it had pulled the star nut half out the top, and it clicked. It’s probably not the solution to your click, but worth a check!

Use an impact driver, I had the same thing, the yackatacka (technical term) will get it loose quick sharp!

Quite honestly people, ride whatever the hell you like. If you prefer one wheel size over another, buy a bike with that wheel size. Do NOT, I repeat, NOT, try and say there is no difference and that its all “marketing hype”. It is very obvious that a 29er is “faster” and that 26ers can have a shorter wheelbase. So, if you ride endurance or xc races, chances are, a 29er will be faster (unless your quite short), if you ride very very tight trails, a 26er will probably be easier. Choose a wheel size according to how and where and what you like to ride, and please, shut up with your opinion on what’s best.

    BB200 was stunning last year
Tour Divide has to be on the list
    And the Iditarod Trail invitational
Edit to add:I haven’t done the last 2, but hey, they should still be on the list

I love singlespeed, its great, and I live in Yorkshire (gods country) where we have proper hills! Most of the time with a little extra effort singlespeed is far faster up the hills. The only time its annoying is riding on the flat as I found out attempting to ride 200 miles on a towpath. To say anywhere you can ride a singlespeed must be boring would mean everywhere was boring, even places such as fort William and winlatter forest?

Driving 150 miles from Yorkshire to mid Wales for a weekends bikepacking, and realising the only shoes you have with you are bright red croc (sorry) wellies that are 2 sizes too big!

    I’m intrigued by this statement:
“With doping done now on a more conservative basis, other forms of cheating are on the rise, particularly related to bikes and equipment
    Hmmm

Ayyyy, I came 2nd in my category! Not bad for a rigid singlespeed! :D

I really enjoyed it tbh, although it was seriously hard!
My rigid single speed did seem to make lots of sense in the mud (I was the black surly) but i would have liked a lower gear for the continuous mud.

    Hi there
I’ve just entered this race based on the above recommendations, but I’m wondering if it will be ‘singlespeedable’ in terms of climbs? Anyone ridden around that area have any idea?
    Cheers

Buffalo active lite, had it for 2 years, still in very good nick, not waterproof, but in the uk, its far more use than a “proper” waterproof imo.
