The World cup XC course is my favourite trail by far, it just rides so much more fluently than anywhere else I’ve ridden. The blue and green downhill runs are much funner than the “suitable for trailers” signs make out, you’d be nuts to take a trailer down either!

Tomd your stats are sensationalist. Five deaths in a year does not mean five deaths every year, so your fifty in a million argument is misplaced. Of course, whether those raw stats are comparable is questionable anyway. All sorts of other factors affect risk on the roads (and probably the hills) which mean you can’t simply treat it like that.

Look up the Micromort, its the unit of “danger” so to speak. 1 micromort is a 1 in a million chance of death. So if 10 out of every million car drives results in a death, each time you drive you take a risk of 10 micromort’s. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micromort

Not quite sure how that is relevant to the discussion but on BG support by any chance ?

I pressed send before I finished.
I was going to say that no one was going to be out stopping people doing things at that time, so its a stupid suggestion. Also, doing that I experienced some of the most hostile conditions I’ve ever come across, the fog was so thick I couldn’t see 1m in front of me, the rain was constant and it was dark, so my headlight just glared off the fog reducing visibility further (gonna be honest it doesn’t sound as bad as it was), and I was in a light waterproof, T-shirt, shorts and trainers the whole way. Having equipment doesn’t make you safe, knowing how to look after yourself does that.
And not quite, we were doing leg 2 of the Bob Graham relay (Billy bland relay for those in the know).

Looks like the suspension is bottomed out all the time to me. Honestly, I don’t like how it looks, but I’m sure it rides brilliantly and if you’re happy with it that’s all that matters!

Montane minimus, just like cycling in tights as you can do the velcro up all the way up the calf.

I’ve got the spykes on my MTB and I love them, if I got a drop bar bike with discs I’d have spyres.

Saving 6g on every component on a bike adds up quick. 6g off each of 17 components is over (albeit just) 100g saved. 100g is reasonably substantial. Save 100g 5 times and thats half a bag of sugar or half a litre of water that you don’t have to push when pedalling up to speed. The extra mass when descending only increases momentum, not speed, and all extra momentum really does is give your brakes a harder time when you have to slow for a corner.
Saving weight is worth it, unless you’re sacrificing strength, which in this case the minor strength decrease clearly doesn’t matter.

This Deore looks fantastic (THE PRICE!).

Doesn’t come with a bottom bracket, which adds a chunk of money.

The SLX crank without rings is the same weight as the XT without rings, and they come with the same bottom bracket, buy the SLX one :D

I’ve got one on my new posh wheels, it’s very light, feels smooth, reliable so far and costs far less than a hope, I’m not complaining yet! (Except they don’t do an ultralight rear hub to match)
