Why not put the rear wheel behind the pedals and make it really long, would increase the stability at the very least I think?

Vittoria voyager hyper (32,35,38c, I’ve got 35’s) are unbelievably fast and light. Cheap from PlanetX too.

    34t round
    11-40 cassette
    Rigid 29er
Everything- Touring, bikepacking, trail centres, hill climbing, Yorkshire moors riding (don’t know how to label this)

Honestly would prefer to fit a 36 or 38 for the touring stuff but chainstays are too broad so I make do.

Top fell runners are incredible, Billy Blands BG time is unbelievable. And the top racers in the Snowdon race are doing sub 3min/miles running down the mountain, which is insane. Worth looking for the One show feature with Ewan Thomas doing a small local fell race and it nearly killed him, he finished with the children at the back.
Also those who win the Tour Divide and the like have got to get a mention, not just fitness but mental strength beyond measure.
As you can tell, I’m most interested in endurance sports :-P

Having seen it in the flesh today, I personally think its a really nice looking long travel hardtail. The tubes are really skinny which I like and it just looks like a good fun bike, though I’d have given it 29″ wheels, that’s my bias.

The cranks and rear mech look really good to me, but I am a simpleton.

I had my surly KM at just sub 23lbs as a rigid single speed before I put gears on it, I was pretty pleased especially as it was built for bikepacking so durability came over lightness. I do understand your point on it being satisfying, taking a 2.5kg frame and making it lighter than a large swathe of even carbon bikes is great!

Would an out of alignment fork mean its b*ggered? It’s definitely straight in the dropout, I’ve checked that a lot :P
I’m going to try a different wheel in there to see if its the fork or the wheel, hopefully its the wheel!

It’s a deore hub if that helps at all, and the axle is near enough central in the hub. It could be poor spoke tension but the wheels were used for ages on my other bike without an issue, strange if they’d suddenly changed now?

Salsa Fargo or cutthroat, the cutthroat would be lightest therefore easier on the road, but its a fortune so the Fargo with 2 sets of wheels and a sus fork you can fit.

Having the shock that way will cause the lockout lever to contact the top tube, don’t ride it like that! :O

Pedals- Look at the Boardman (yes I know) MTB pro pedals, they’ll save a bit and they’re very good.
Tires-Lighter is very easy to achieve here, saves ~lb without going mad.
Rotors- Look on eBay for lightweight rotors and save about 60g per end.

If you want to tow, Discovery 2 is unbeatable, we towed a fully loaded artic lorry up an icy hill (I have a video to prove it), can be had dead cheap, though the reliability can be suspect, if you get a good one it should be fine with regular services.

I have this setup and it shifts really well, no idea if the xtr is better than the xt but it has a carbon paddle so its worth it!

re Hope. Great brakes. Great hubs. Also some of the worst QR levers I’ve ever used. Some of the most expensive headset spacers also. But they do bear the ‘Hope’ logo so they must be awesome spacers?

At least somebody gets it. I’m not saying all hope stuff is overpriced, but £80 for a brake rotor? Or £8 per headset spacer? Come on that’s ridiculous…

Tub of wonder wipes (make baby wipes look like single ply toilet paper)
    Massive roll of kitchen roll
Jar of petrol/diesel (a mix of the 2 works well) for cleaning threads and the like of grease, nothing else works as well

Charge plugs are a pretty colour? I don’t know if they’re sold as frame only though.

It’s a monarch rt3, and I’ve noticed I can feel a click when the lever moves to the lockout which I think is the lock engaging. I’ll get it built up and see if it all works.

You would need to reuse the little plastic tube that fits between the cups (that is if road bikes need it?) as it is shorter on road (68mm bb shell) frames than on mtb (73mm bb shell), otherwise a mtb bb will be better sealed i think so probably a better option.

I have a buffalo active lite shirt (ripstop with thin pile, no hood) and its my favorite riding top at this time of year, really really good. I did the Yorkshire dales 200 in it earlier in the year and for 22 hours all I did to regulate temperature was zip and unzip it, if I got really warm id tie it around my waist. I was looking at replacing it with the teclite cycle shirt but the sleeves are crazy long (3 inches longer per size than my active lite) that they just look ridiculous bunching up around the wrists. I’m looking at the snugpak equivalent (TS1 smock) as a cheaper replacement as I can get them directly from the factory.

I’ve just bought a Titus Rockstar (available in carbon and alloy), can’t comment on it yet as its scurried away for Christmas, but either way its a bargain :D

Geax (now Vittoria) AKA’s are crazily fast tires that offer surprising grip in most conditions, so they’re my recommendation. 2.0 and 2.2 inch versions depending on what you deem appropriate.
