Echo the Captain’s comments. Here in Singapore everyone wears smart trousers & shirt with no tie. However, they do have the AC on to the max, so I keep a jacket at work. I wouldn’t worry about buying something specific in linen unless you’ll be often outside of AC areas.

All very well thanks. Watching the Wales game at home then heading to Chijmes for the England game.

Agreed, a few errors too. Hopefully the 3 points will calm them down.

Had a few spokes snap on my Hope wheel.

Got in touch with Hope who sent out replacements all the way to Singapore. Top service. :d

Try living in Singapore… After living here for 6 months I now consider £5 a pint as a bargain! £7 a pint is common in bars & pubs.

Further to this thread I got in touch with the good people at Hope who quickly posted me some replacement spokes to Singapore.

If only all companies were as easy to deal with!

Thanks for all the responses, didn’t expect so much feedback!

I am indeed coming from Singapore so well used to humidity and rain! Hope it’s not a complete wash out though. Just 1 more day of work to get through… 😀

Riding through Saltaire the other week, I had to laugh out loud when I saw Fanny Street so I am also a child

The neighbouring street is Upper Fanny Street. I kid you not. 🙂

I too like Wyre Piddle, though I think my favourite is Breasty Haw in the lakes.

Was there last year and had a fantastic weekend. In the wrong hemisphere this year so no SGP for me. If you’re going check out The Undercover Hippy[/url] @ Small World stage. Enjoy Jamie!

So eventually I took both wheels to another LBS, who rebuilt them with the same type of spokes, and nipples on the same rims/hubs and the problem went way.

That would also fit with Dez’s theory about a bad batch of spokes which makes sense to me.

Mine’s been nowhere near an LBS and definitely not in Leeds… 🙂

Yup, SP. Thought it must be a case for warranty, just wish it had happened before I left the UK. Distinct lack of Hope dealers here.

I live in Singapore. In terms of what to expect, it’s a very easy city to live in. We did what to do in Singapore quite recently but if you’ve got any specific questions about what to do & where to go let me know.

In terms of buying gifts, shopping is the number 1 pastime in Singapore! However, prices are comparable the UK for most things. Camera equipment, watches & electronics are a bit cheaper if you shop around. If you’re working here then you won’t be able to get a refund on GST for anything you buy in the city. It’s probably worth seeing if what you want to buy is on sale at Changi airport as it will be duty free.

you need to loosen the adjustment bolt once you’ve fitted the LH crank then use the TL-FC17 tool (or your fingers to be fair) to move the adjusting ring:

FWIW I’m 6′ with a 33″ inside leg and ride a medium. Don’t find it too cramped at all.

    It’s very good.

I moved house recently as was renunited with all these things. I feel wonderful at the moment. For the first time in about ten years nothing at all is marked as *lost*.

I emigrated recently. I was looking forward to finally being reunited with some race blades that I’d bought for the road bike and had to be in the house somewhere, as I brought them straight home after purchasing. Not a sign of them, definitely in the wormhole.

It’s only been 3 weeks since I’ve given up; I’ve just gone cold turkey.

I was a smoker for nearly 20 years, smoking at least 20 a day before I quit. I’m feeling pretty positive about it and been pretty drunk a couple of times since stopping and not come close to smoking again.

    Wish me luck! 🙂

    Greetings from Singapore! 🙂

Above suggestions are good, I’ve not done the night safari but hear it can be a bit hit or miss with regard to what you see. The zoo is ace, one of the best in the world I reckon, though our polar bear is getting a new enclosure so isn’t receiving visitors at present :). However, not sure I’d visit the zoo / night safari if I only had 48 hrs in the city.

You should definitely spend a day downtown, check out Chinatown & CBD then onto the Colonial district & quays area. Worth a trip on the Singapore flyer for the view – do it before it gets dark though. Top of Marina bay hotel is worth a look for the view too.

If you like seafood, as others have said you must try the chilli / black pepper crab here. I’d argue the best is Jumbo @ the East Coast Park about 15 mins out of the city. You can hire bikes and take a ride along the ECP, there’s also wakeboarding in a dedicated lake where you’re pulled by cables ala ski lifts here too if you’re into it.

Sentosa is an obvious choice as a tourist; it’s worth climbing up to Mt. Faber and then getting the cable car over for a quick look. The aquarium, as already mentioned, is superb. Universal studios is meant to be pretty rubbish unless you’ve got kids to entertain (I’ve not been).

Bukit Timah nature reserve is pretty unique, the only primary jungle left in Singapore complete with monkeys, monitor lizards and great bird life. Make sure you pack the mosquito repellent if you do choose to visit it.

I’d recommend trying to fit a boat trip over to Pulau Ubin to get a taste of what Singapore used to look, there’s also one of the two decent mountain bike trails on the island and the chance to hire bikes to ride on it if you want to get some biking in. It’s a 10 min boat trip from Changi village which is very close to the airport so you could try and fit it in on the way to/from the airport.

The food is great here, try and find some murtabak while you’re here – it’s one of my personal fave foods of Singapore.

I could go on, but you do only have 48hrs in our fair city so will stop at that. If you want to do anything specific, or want any other questions answering drop me an email (address in profile).
