Thanks for all the replies. Just been to Jessops and had a play. Appreciate the comments that a 4/3rd size still isn’t that small but I think I still fancy a smaller sized camera.

I’ve narrowed it down to the G2 or Sony A33, both seem neat and do all that I need and more. Interested to know more about your point theough Mikey – How come you have to use the Zeiss lenses?

Thanks
Ben

I’m going to watch this thread with interest, chiefly so I can recommend something to my mate, who has yet to make it through a ride without picking up his front or rear wheel, spinning it and muttering “that’s not right, that”.

Think we have the same mate! :)

I certainly wouldn’t go to Zanzibar for a few weeks. We visited about 18 months ago when we ended a trip to Tanzania with a week there which was more than enough time. It’s nowhere near as idylic as some of the other Indian Ocean islands I’ve visited and there’s not much to do. The beaches we visited were pretty dirty in comparison with other places I’ve visited and I was suprised by the amount we got hassled (far, far more than we did on the mainland). Stone town is worth a look, but it’s pretty touristy and I think you could see everything of interest in a day.

We did have an amazing night on Chumbe Island (a coral conservation park and island off the south coast) which I highly recommend visiting. Expensive, but worth every penny. The snorkelling (tourists aren’t allowed to dive) was some of the best I’ve ever done if you’re into marine life.

I’d consider it alongside a trip to the mainland if I were you, maybe combine it with a safari?

Depends what you’re looking for and your budget, but also consider Pemba – it’s a lot quieter and unspoilt from what we saw.

My surgery operates the same policy, you need to ring up in the morning 1st thing to secure an appointment for that day. So you wait until 8am when they open and then spend 30 minutes trying to call them but just get an engaged tone. When you do finally get through, if you’re lucky enough to get an appointment they usually won’t offer alternative times to the one they offer you. I agree it’s a very frustrating system.

Apparently it’s all down to a target from central government that was set around patients being able to secure an appointment with their GP for the same day. Hence my surgery doing away with being to book an appointment in advance. I’m just lucky that my employer is flexible.

That said, you should have registered with your GP when you moved to the area. :)

I run Fox Talas 36s on mine. Usually leave them at 160mm, only need to drop them down to 130mm on really steep climbs.

I’d like one of these:

Like others above, I think I’d be disappointed if I did ever own one and actually ride it in anger!

Would agree with Will.

When would you be planning to ride, as ideally you’d be best with a local to show you the best bits (it’s mainly all cheeky). I’m back on the 27th if you wanted a guide.. :)

Aus,

Medium was perfect for me. I’m quite a lanky six foot, if you are “long” in the torso you might favour a large.

I’d drop you a mail but there’s no address in your profile. Drop me a line (address in my profile).

Cheers

I’m 6ft and ride a medium. Though I must admit I don’t ride it much anymore since getting a bigger bike. I might even be tempted to part with it. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a fantastic bike.

Where are you based Aus? You’re welcome to try mine if you’re near to Leeds.

I’ve had to claim twice with M&S this year. No issues dealing with them at all. Wheelies were a bit slow and painful to deal with when replacing a bike but I’ll be renewing with M&S again this year..

If you read through all the comments on here, you’ll probably find what you need. There are links to how tos and such. Just takes a bit of looking but you’ll work it out. It helped me sort my baseband issue and out and unlock mine.

Just ignore the dearth of posts such as “not contact the computer iphone plz help me”. :O)

EDIT: Here’s the link you need.

Dug the links out of my email.

We used these guys for the car transfer (looks like it’s gone up £25) and this lot for the baggage.

Drop me an email if you want any more info. I think I’ve got the Woodcock route on pdf somewhere too.

What sort of money are you looking at for that sort of service?

Can’t remember the exact figure, but I seem to remember we used 2 big bags between 6 of us. Think it was about £70 in total for the week.. We had no issue about them taking the bags to any accomodation we chose.

Moving the car cost a bit more, I think about £150. Worth every penny though.

We did Woodcocks route over 6 days, making it relatively leisurely. Doing it in 4 days would be pretty tough IMO, though depends how fit you are. It’s a great route, much more fun than the shorter options like the Sustrans, etc.

We opted to use a baggage company to transfer bags from YH/B&Bs every day which I’d really recommend as you’ll enjoy the riding far more than with panniers. We also found a company that will transfer your vehicle from St Bees to Robin Hoods bay so it’s waiting for you when you finish. A lot easier than the alternatives of getting the train / bus back to St Bees at the end.

It’s one of the best weeks I’ve ever spent on a bike..

I have software that will search & replace in multiple files, but I’ll have to replace one string at a time. Ideally, I’d like something that can reference the 20 or so seperate terms I have to replace in each file and do them all at the same time if that makes sense?
