Hi gobuchul, I see what you’re saying, you also said “Naim is modified Philips kit, sames B&O, Arcam and numerous other suppliers”

To me modified philips kit would mean say take the circuit diagram and tweek it, which is like the merc analogy.

Now I could be wrong, but won’t the hifi manusfacturers you mentioned be simply using the DAC (philips in this case) and designing their own circuit around it, building it with their selection of components.. no?

    Yes it is.

    Philips TDA1541 based CD players

But that’s just a list of CDPs that use the Philips DAC (probs at the time the best, and even now well respected) and transport, a bit like a list of those that use Burr-Brown.

It isn’t just the DAC – its the overall design and the other components in the analog stage that will determine overall sound quality.

So I’d say no it’s not just a Philips

I go to gigs, see new bands, decide whether to by or not

Have started to play with Spotify only to discover new music which I then buy CD

That’s a good point molgrips :-) when you say it like that. I had just hoped that as I trained the point the pain occured would be longer..

Hmmm, I think, or rather thought, aerobically that i was pretty capable (maybe I’m confusing aerobic and endurance), so how do I best improve this?? It seems, no matter the training, shortish but sharp\hard bursts and I’m in pain…

Ooh, has the idea of lactic acid build up been disregarded?? if so I’d like to know what causes the pain as I thought it was lactic acid…

I get pain when cycling up hills hard or sprinting, I don’t get it on a long run at slower pace for example.

We only had a joint account (actually joint everything), everything went into it, and everything came out of it – served us well for 27 years.

Just because it’s become commonplace and the norm doesn’t mean is right, if it no longer annoys you and you accept it that just means you’ve been successfully bullied into submission

You’re correct, being the norm doesn’t mean it is right. But I also think not getting annoyed and accepting it doesn’t mean he’s been bullied into submission – more like he has decided not to let other people get him stressed and angry.

Had a sheath knife about age 11, we used to wear them on our belts at school. They were great for playing splits and chicken and throwing at trees.

No one died, although we all did cut ourselves, didn’t help me learn as I still cut (well more nick) with my razor – ho hum

So would it be normal to visit some tattoo parlours and ask them to draw it out first?

I would think so. Mainly because that is exactly what I intend to do :-)

I bought a frame only, a Prince Albert 17″, that’s what I put on the form, who was to know it wasn’t a complete bike.

The issue could have been that if the company had wanted the bikes back (they do own them) then I suppose I’d have lost my components, however I’d have just paid the remainder.

As for topping up, it is against the rules, if you do do it then I would imagine you’d lose your top up if all went wrong…

Pennel Vennels is good, but you could take the forest road past it as suggested, pick up the climb by the bench to spooky woods, do spooky woods then the next bit of red which is ace. At the bottom of that turn right, a short climb uo the forest road and pick up the blue Motorway, then I think its Blue velvet, then berm baby berm, rejoin blue behind buzzrads carpark and basically return home on the blue including Good Game

In that case I wouldn’t be spending much, as nick says, buy what’s comfy

Hmmm, it is a tricky one this one…. but can I ask if you’ve run ‘much’ before? 5K isn’t really that far, but if you haven’t run much\at all then I can see how it will seem a long way. But I wouldn’t say top end shoes are needed, but good fitting ones are.

Another question would be, do you anticipate running in the future? Shoes prices vary considerably, I’m not one for spending say £80 for one run and you can get comfortable shoes for not much money from sportsdirect, it would be an idea if you had a runner friend who could go with you. If however, you do intend keeping it going then visiting a specialist shop and spending a bit more would be worth it.

Hmmm, my runner friends love their gadgets, stopwatches  GPS toys, gadgets in their shoes that talk to their gadget on their wrist\pocket :D

As a runner the local segments I found were very short bits, not really what I wanted, i.e. random short sprints essentially. So I make my complete runs a segment, hopefully more runners will too which will give something to measure myself against. Also means I’m KOM :-)

I can only say what I did; which was to get a 125, in my case a Suzuki RGF 125, which I rode for a year on L plates. The DAS schemes had been brought in just a bit before I started and the rule about having to pass on a 600 if you wanted to ride unrestricted straight off. So, to do this I booked a 3 day course culminating on the day of my test which I passed.

The main thing that sticks in my mind is that the instructor made a comment after an initial ride that I had ridden before, the other guys on the course hadn’t, obviously down to my previous year. I know things have changed, but back then (and now) I wouldn’t contemplate on going from nothing to full licence in 5 days or whatever.

So my advive would be to ride on L plates for a decent amount of time.

As to first bike, I took the view that most could kill me no matter the power, but was more likely to be another driver. So my first big bike was Suzuki GSXR 600 :-) happy days

    Oh, and yes, Do IT

It amuses me how some people feel the need to pass judgement on others and how they spend their money

I wonder if those that do, subscribe to Sky; I mean how much to watch TV  !!?? Oh there I go casting aspirations and judgements…

I’m with Perthmtb on this… My fork, Revs 140mm, have 20mm bolt through and I can’t say I’ve honestly noticed an increase in stiffness (same applies to the various cranks I’ve used).

I would however NOT buy QR because I like the increased safety of a bolt through, and nowadays they’re a piece of p**s to use.

Hey GS that looks good… this is the one I was looking at ebay pack

What attracted me was the capacity… looking at the spec of GS’s one I don’t see why the ebay won’t work as well.

    GS’s output: USB 5V 0.6A
    ebay output: 500mA, 2A

    any thoughts…?

A wee update and thanks for the above…

I ended up with this Kenwood BT32U[/url] which I paid £80 from caraudiosecurity

I decided against the DAB option but went with Bluetooth, so glad I did. The unit so far seems just perfect for my needs.

I suppose it depends on what your aim is? If it’s to download routes other people have made available, then it’s defo an easy way to do things i.e. download, follow.

If there aren’t any routes for your area then you’re going to have to plan a route from maps (paper or electronic) which can then be loaded on the GPS to follow. If you’re going to need to plan a route then you might as well use a paper map and take it with you, in which case you won’t need a GPS.

But I can tell you where a GPS can be helpful and that is recording where you’ve been. I’ve been on ride in a new area and taken out by locals, recording the route with a GPS is great as I can then load onto my maps (tracklogs) and see the route, from there plan further routes.

Having said all that, I use my phone GPS to do the above.

Pikes were good IIRC.. aren’t Sektors the new Pikes?

I thought Rockshox still did U-Turn flavours?? My Revs are adjustable but not on the trail, I’d defo consider U-Turn Sektors if my forks die on me.

Hi,thanks for the replies, some good pointers there. Defo don’t want to spend more than a £100, but maybe I do need to up my budget a wee bit. Not fussed on ipod\iphone control, but do an AUX and at these prices they’ll all have a USB port.

In Halfords, I did spot the DAB units which has been mentioned here so I’ll look into that as well.

Why does it need to bottom out? It doesn’t.

People seem to believe this “it must bottom out once a ride” thing, which is, frankly, a load of crap.

    Never a truer word said.

Titus Rockstar Carbon? It as a grand so not sure if you’ll get the build you want… But if the FTM which I have is anything to go by it would be great. In fact if you were to go 26″ (not your preferred I know) then the carbon ftm is £850 with the aluminum one being even cheaper….

    Well said Steve.

Also nothing wrong with bacon and eggs, toms and mushrooms. Black pudding fine in moderation, and I find beef sausages to keep the fat side in check. Although I find people (not suggesting the people here) to be scared of fat due to the insistence that low fat diets are good.

I don’t carry a first aid kit as I’m not sure how much it will really help.

But what I do is carry is only water in my hydration pack\bottle which is great (well better than a sticky carb drink) for cleaning cuts etc if needed… I suppose my spare tube could be used as a sling if needed…

Thinking about it, a space blanket is a good idea, think I’ll pop one of those in.
