slightly off-topic… I went to a gig (The Menzingers) at Northumbria University student union earlier this year, I did feel old (59) amongst the youth 🙂 anyway the pre gig music wasn’t much different from my last time in a union which was 36 years ago, I don’t just mean genre but the actual bands.. I was surprised and a bit disappointed.

The Menzingers played a blinder :-)

Cheers all. There is a lot there to use.

@surromj funnily enough, I came 2nd (after 5 rounds of interviews)

You’ve more tenacity than me, I’d have lost interest after 3 interviews. I find 2 normally enough, but 5!!

Yair is shite though I’d not bother. 😉

Yep, it’s bloody awful especially that 2hoesbro 😉

EDIT: It does have an almost perfect 90 degree angle between the forks and toptube though!

And tbf the kink in the downtube (which I normally dislike) is matched by the kink in the seatstay at the dropout.

On a hardtail I like the top tube and seat stays to meet at the same place on the seat tube.

    For a full suss this:

    Izzo Blaze

Nice lines, nice proportions and rides like a dream

I’ve just bought one of these Berghaus Ghlas which on Monday’s ride proved excellent.

Obviously depends what you’re looking for or call exciting…. there are a couple of loops from the Scottish side; (1) Halterburn loop which starts just over the hill from Kirk Yetholm and (2) Heatherhope loop (named after the reservoir) that starts from Hownam village hall.

Both about 12 miles with 2000 odd feet of (tough) climbing, 360 views are great on clear days.

@andydt82 TBH I hadn’t even thought about it dropping the BB :-) The plan was to pair the MM upfront with a 2.4 Maxxis I already had, hence 2.4; but then ended up getting a Hans Dampf instead.

As to pedal strikes, can’t say I’ve noticed it being any worse, I do get them mind :-)

    I’ve got a 2019 905 (is that a v1?) am 5’10″\178cm and have a medium. It’s the longest bike I’ve had and wouldn’t want it any longer.

When I first rode it I really noticed the comfort which will be the 2.8″ tyres, have since changed to MM 2.4s and still feels comfy.

I ride everything on it including traditional(?) XC routes, think Cheviots\Gypsy Glen; and trail centres think Glentress\Innerleithen; and non trail centre centres, think Yair\Golfie

    It’s a brilliant bike :-)

I bought a van, love just wheeling the bike in covered in cack.

This year I’m hoping a day’s coaching will improve things.

@jodafett – I don’t think it’s a yes, unless when you say “your house in Edinburgh” is in fact in West/Mid/East Lothian, which in that case it’s a yes 😀

Ta Derek, to us it still looks stunning.

    @Freester
,I’d love to have seen that. We have the remote, comical in size by today’s models, but very programmable as you might expect.

I have this Bang and Olufsen from mids 80s (86/87):

    Beomaster 5000 (amp)
    Beogram 5000 (turntable)
Beogram CD 9000 (with 5500 front to match)

    B&O

I’ve got a nice 5.1 home cinema setup (rx-v685, monitor audio bronze speakers, bk subwoofer), which I think is a good value-for-money middlepoint (maybe £1200’s worth) – but everyone’s point on the scale will vary.

Hey very similar here; RX-V379, Monitor Audio bronze fronts and centre, Mordaunt Short satellites and sub – absolutely love it, don’t think I’d have it any other way.

I could do of course, but why would I when I don’t have any vit d deficiency symptoms and I never have? And I doubt my GP would appreciate it just now.

    Going outdoors won’t work though.

Diet it is then, seems to have worked so far.

Hmm, a quick Google does throw up results suggesting it is possible to take too much. But anyway taking a pill is not for me, I’ll stick with diet and going outdoors.

I like Ling. I always thought I’d never own a car, but I’m tempted to order

… I might want to back out though. Anyone got any advice?

I got a car from Lings in 2015, had it 2.5 years, absolutely fantastic service.

Ran an Ardent 2.4 on back of Tracer (DHF up front) for a year or so, just put it on the rear of Whyte 905 replacing a Rekon, felt alright to me, it rolled, it gripped, it slipped just like every other tyre. And now I’ve just found out it’s meant to be rubbish 🤷‍♂️

How techy is the Golfie generally?

I’ve never been and I don’t mind a bit of tech – I’m happy on stuff like Top Chief at Fort Bill or Five Year Plan, Mast of Zorro, Ho Chi Min at GT but really steep stuff like Ponduro is a bit too much.

I feel like I’m missing out, but don’t want to head over there and be out of my depth either.

Given what you’ve said I’d stick with Innerleithen, plenty there to step up from GT and some nicely in between. I’m thinking angry sheep, green wing are lovely and flowy. Alistair Lees and Quarry Enduro – two parts to each – are nicely challenging. Then there are the DH trails from make or Brake to Matador\Cresta and Gold Run – by christ Gold Run is steep at the bottom :-) Plus too many others to mention.

Definitely Gypsy Glen. Another one for me are the Cheviots which also have stunning views.

I bought a light from amazon described as such:

BYBO® 5000 Lumens 2x Cree XM-L U2 LED Bike Bicycle Cycling Light Headlight Headlamp Front Head Lights 8000mAh 18650 Rechargeable Battery Pack USB Charger

22 quid. Bought a light and motion helmet strap mount for just a few quid.

Works really well. I’m not keen on the charger it came with so just the one from my other light.

I like Cougar’s yamaha, I’ve a similar one just without the network port (am now considering changing to this, thanks cougar), it’s superb. All my sources are external so any decoding down to the amp, although if you have dac (presuming it’s better than what’s in the amp), punt it in via audio and turn off any processing. Full 5.1 for films, also more and more broadcast TV is 5.1. What I love most is playing vinyl end to end analogue, without a separate setup.

it states think golfie innerleithen (isnt that full face, uplift)

No uplift at Golfie as far as I know, it (Adrenalineuplift) services the main Innerleithen trail centre.

What a stunning day today was, in the Highlands at least.

Also on White Sands at Dunbar, round 2 of this year’s xc series, surprisingly hard run.

    @boblo
3.30 for a marathon is a decent time, maybe not fast fast, but holding 8min/mile for 26 is good going.

Hmm, I’m a bit puzzled about not wanting to put this through the insurance for an excess of £250 (which it turns out isn’t payable) but willing to pay up to 1k?? Yes, the insurance might increase at next renewal, but realistic by how much? And surely you shop around to counter this, no?

I’m not in a club, our local league (Border XC) is open to all. However, it is club orientated, advertised via clubs and sells out very quickly.

Hey Frank, did you enter the series? Had a great run on Sunday. For anyone else, the series sells out in hours after going live on entry Central which was on October 1st.
