I’ve mostly ridden SPDs since using toe clips back in the mists of time. I’ve had a few forays with flats over the years racing DH (very mid pack) or at the Mega but gravitated back to SPDs doing the same races in subsequent years. During the first lockdown I committed time to the Ryan Leach wheelie course and as a result have been on flats exclusively for 18 months however swapped back on a whim for a recent week in Molini and the muscle memory and instinct was all still there. I guess what I am trying to say is that there is no harm in giving flats a go (except cost) and then swapping between depending on what you fancy. Loads of good pedals and shoes out there. A set of shoes that can be used for general cutting about will never be wasted.

Had a bike from CRC this week. Arrow XL were utterly useless with rubbish communication. They had the bike for days before I finally chased them and only then did they book a delivery slot that was several days away. They then didn’t turn up (overbooked route), and when I called they couldn’t book another shot as they hadn’t got the bike back to the warehouse yet????? Ended up being 10 days from dispatch to delivery. Not impressed.

Arguments aside, it can be done. Guide in finale a couple of years ago was a German trauma surgeon. Worked for a local outfit a few weeks a year. He was a first rate guide. Didn’t make an assessment of his surgical skills.

Thanks for the input everyone. Suspect problem is mainly contamination from the road. Will clean rotors to death and change the pads again and see what happens.

Just replaced some 24mm hope BB bearings. Premature failure after only 13 years of regular use. Unsurprisingly paid for the proper replacement ones. Did seem a bit pricey but like stuff that lasts.

Had exactly this dilemma. Went for SLX shifter and mech. Works fine with SRAM cassette. Would prefer Shimano cassette but changing the freehub didn’t make sense.

Re hub choice I had a hope bearing failure this week in a hub that has only been in use for 13 years without being touched. Bearings swapped so I have pencilled in a service for June 2033. Hope rear boost conversion easy. Re dishing front is pretty easy and leads to a stronger (more centered) wheel but obviously no good if swapping between boost and non boost.

Do work in the business so have some idea. Really is worth getting this looked into. I would go via the 111 route today (as it’s a bank holiday) if you are at all unwell. If not then via own GP tomorrow. While there is a very high chance this could turn out to be something minor and transient I did end up doing CPR on a 40 year old chap (good outcome) a couple of years ago who had ignored symptoms he thought were nothing.

I got the Mrs a cheap Transfer but didn’t fancy paying a fortune for the fox remote (which I have on my bike and is ok but nothing amazing). Took a punt on a £15 ZTTO one any it is first rate. Assume it is a copy of an expensive one but quality is really good. Got it off Wish so it took a couple of weeks to come. The idea of paying £70 seems madness when you consider how simple a device it is.

Had the same on 2 sets. Warrantied both. In the end replaced them with the new xt version that are a few grammes heavier but have been faultless. Baffles me why Shimano have not fixed this and keep just sending them out especially at xtr level. Also refused to admit this is a known fault.

Progress takes ages but sticking with is seems to be paying off. Often seem to struggle to do the specific drills as well as I want, but find the techniques gradually creeping in without me really thinking about it. I’m not nearly as good on the flat as on a slight incline. Have got to the downhill wheelie lesson but that might have to wait until after lockdown as a grass downhill slope will be really useful. Keep it up folk.

I’m about day 24 on this. Have been at it longer than that but can’t manage every day. Have had to do it all on tarmac as no suitable grass area. Tarmac has been fine. Good days and less good days but really enjoying it. Slight uphill makes it much easier but might leave my technique lacking. Have got as far as some 40-50m wheelies however still very inconsistent so loads of rubbish ones. Suspect there is plenty of pandemic left to get more consistent.

Is it just me or is this fork the solution to a problem only ever experienced by Richie Rude. I suspect the 36 is a better fork for all other humans.

If you had V2s last time I would go V4 this time. Much more compatible in terms of power. E4s are ace for UK use but once you are in bigger mountains with lifts they can struggle if you are pushing on and don’t stop much. They will also last for ever. First rate bits of kit.

Had loads of sets over the years. Can’t remember a set of cranks that “didn’t work”. I’m sure the super gifted among you can detect a greater or lesser degree of flex however however despite being really fussy about suspension and brakes I have never really felt any difference.

About 4 years ago the Mrs got me a set of Hope cranks as a suprise for Christmas. They are now on their second frame and the original BB is still totally smooth. Are they technically betterer than the other options….? Probably not. Are they the most cost effective per gram saved??? I suspect not. However when I moved them onto a box fresh carbon frame plus fork about a year ago did it feel like a shame not to put a new set on (like it did with the drivetrain)??? Not at all! They still look and feel first rate. I just don’t get that 3 years in with the competition.

Been to Saalbach and Morzine with the kids. If you stay in the town most accommodation in Saalbach comes with some free lift access which is really good for grabbing a run here and there around family stuff. Loads of good stuff close. Worth checking details of lift passes first.

Morzine has plenty to do off the bike but is less centered as an area so less good if time is short. Lift passes add up too.

Had exact same issue with exactly the same combination of a Nomad 3 CC and hope headset. Suspect warranty route best option (I didn’t but have since had a warranty replacement frame for a different issue). I just put in a Chris king lower assembly with carbon paste as the insert into the frame is about twice the length and so was gripping fresh head tube. Worked fine. If they offer a warranty replacement then mine was a Nomad 4 and it included a shock. Belter of a replacement.

BikeTart really good. Very keen price and first rate service. Just had a total mare with Winstanleys and wouldn’t ever go near them again.

Just done this. Rear kit includes spacers to move disk across and longer end caps. No re dish needed. Front kit is a single longer non disk side end cap and re dish is needed (but easy to do if you have done any wheel fettling). Worth remembering that you may also need one, disk side, standard (non boost) 15mm front end cap if moving from 20mm front axle to 15mm. Think these only come as a pair.

Bell sanctions are first rate. Both our kids have them and use them doing uplifted stuff. Remarkably light but proper full faces. Still rubbish to ride up big hills in. Not sure how big they go as ours are 5 and 8 and both now in mediums.

Tyre choice is a very personal thing. I tend to ride maxxis dual ply 60a rear and Grid or DD front. I am only about 74kg but tend to take a fairly direct line through rocks (read zero finess). Some mates ride similar stuff at similar speeds on exo without problems. Horses for courses and all that.

I’ve managed to do something similar riding out an enduro stage at inners with a flat.  Punctured about 50m into a top to bottom run so tyre did take some abuse.  Had to bin tyre in the end.

Have both which I rotate depending on what I’m up to. Both first rate.  203 both ends.  Only stick the v4s on for trips to the Alps.  Never felt the need on any UK decent or race.  Uplifted stuff out in Nava or Finale can lead to tired hands by the end of the week so useful to bring out the big boys!

Just about to take off a tire I fixed a 20mm cut in the sidewall of 18 months ago.  Sew up the defect with button thread.  Superglue the thread then puncture repair patch over the inside.  Fine tubeless since.  Mates did take the piss a lot at first though.

Nava freeride. In the southern Alps about an hour from Finale. Can arrange trips including days on the med coast. Just back after 3rd trip. First rate in every sense. Guiding, sun, food and best trails I have ridden anywhere. Italian outfit. Norma speaks English. Couldn’t recommend more highly!

Been through exactly this. Ignore the flack you will likely get from the super parents on here whose children never needed helmets because they were “taught their limits”! Found a really good FF for our lad when he was 3. Will post details later when I can check the exact model. Think both ours use giro gloves.

Went from a balance bike to a cnog 14 at 2 and a bit so pedaling free for over a year. Now desperate to follow his sister round the pump track which he can do but currently not without me running beside him and gripping the back of his jacket down the steep bits due to my lack of bottle/sensible parenting. Suspect the body of opinion on here is correct but worth asking.

Run shimano disks and mount hard wear with e4s on the Mrs bike. 180 each end but would work with other sizes.

Also 165 VPP (nomad). I weigh 11 and a bit stone without kit. Run about 160. Can’t remember where I am up to spacer wise since it went back to mojo for a new air can. You are in the right ballpark.

If fox are gagged by US law until a solution is reached that information should have been included in the original press release or circulated in the UK by other means. Can’t really argue with them pulling the shocks and then a solution taking a while but zero communication is fairly unforgivable. I see ohlins have a rear air shock available……

Had a TRc and currently have a 2016 5010. Both great bikes. 5010 better. Both had a 2 degree Angleset fitted though.

Best bike race I have done in the UK. Prologue was fantastic. Understand an evening commitment can be problematic for those with other commitments (kids ect) but suspect most folks were staying in town due to the whole across the water business. Really set the race apart. Other wise trails very good especially 5.

Had one for about 6 weeks. 3 weeks in Alps and K&Q at inners this weekend so a good amount of abuse for the time. Faultless throughout but most seen to be at first. I like the design but only time will tell. Like the top and bottom clunk. Fitting a doddle.
