Got an update today – It wasn’t good reading ! Where do we go from here ? It might not be good for Sam but it’s far from ideal for us folk that parted with their money :-(

Yesterdays e-mail doesn’t really answer anything other than they ain’t coming before Christmas, no new date not even a hint. I wanted to be they at the birth or beginning whatever but now I just want to bail but Kickstarter wash their hands of the project once funded so how do you get a refund ?

Great vid & great riding. Hope you don’t mind but I shared it to the UK Fat Bike Club FB page coz I’m sure a lot of Fatty owners will love to see it.

If you need custom made bike packing gear with a ‘green’ touch then Judy is your girl. She can do you full frame bags, Salsa Anything cage bags all made from used inner tubes & old brewery malt sacks. Any doubts check out Gerard De Bruin who used her bags on the Rovaniemi 150 in Finland & loved them. http://www.beerbabe.co.uk

The Bredene Beach race was BRUTAL! A 60kph head wind gusting even higher. I couldn’t believe how quickly the quick guys lapped us! I hope that the Battle on the Beach isn’t too windy. Bloody good fun & great beer in Belgium though ;-)

A fanny pack works for skiing so why not for ‘uplifts’ ? If you rotate the bag to the front on a chair lift it works just fine, I know I’ve done it.
Alternatively get a frame pack made by Judy at http://www.beerbabe.co.uk make from recycles inner tubes & brewery malt sacks, just the job.

The key feature with beerbabe is that Judy makes her bags from recycled inner tubes & malt sacks from the local brewery. Gerard De Bruijn just came 9th on the Rovaniemi 150 Fat Bike race in Finland using a http://www.beerbabe.co.uk frame pack on his Salsa Beergrease.

Had my Fatty since Dec 2012 & destroyed the bottom bracket (sand & me ;-) ) So replaced it recently & went 2 X 10 at the same time. BB used was this – http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350680618652?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_2589wt_1138 Got stuck to UK customs for ages but was just what I wanted :D

As I understand it the bikes were chained up & in a locked garage. If they want them they will get them.
Got stopped by a car load of dodgy scum myself on Sunday when out on my Fatty. 1st question was is it expensive, second where did I come from ! Yeah right.

By the way we are still looking for Deans bikes the most obvious being that 9zero7 in the photo, as Shaw Taylor would say ‘Keep ’em peeled’

    Cheers

These bikes are still missing & are fairly unique, if you see them out on the trail or advertised anywhere please message me & I’ll the info on to my mate who had them nicked. The 9zero7 is only a week old

Thanks for your help & spread the word.

Yeap fitted to both our On-One Fattys, one small & one medium. Out in the rain and mud again today & working brilliantly. Original BB and what I fitted looked just like I took off except it has a 36 & 22 instead of just a 32 ring.

Oh yes I’ve heard of n + 1 but in my case it means n + 2 coz http://www.beerbabe.co.uk always wants another one to !

Re Fat Bike racks, we use a Thule 3 bike rack, I have removed the 1st & 3rd sliding bike mounts & used short lengths of 4inch guttering bolted in place so easily removed. We have even used the rack with 2 Fattys & a 29er mounted inbetween. Been using it for 9 months & it works just fine even in Europe with the Fattys.

    Rob,
Dunno if you’re still looking but we’ve 2 Fattys in the family & recently converted them to 2 x 10. I used Truvativ Holzfeller 2.2 RG Chainset & BB MY10 – 170mm – 22/32 Rings – White from Merlin Cycles. I used a standard front mech off another bike just at a slightly strange angle, but it all works just fine.
Re the Fatty in general, it’s great value for money & fantastic fun in all conditions, snow, sand, mud, rough rooty stuff or just popping down the pub. We got fed up with the Avid brakes, they needed bleeding a lot so changed them. The wifes bike is running very well but I’m a bit harder on mine & have done a set of rear wheel brgs & my BB is now horrid! but most of that has been caused by the sandy conditions in the Surrey Hills last winter, had them since last December.
Hope that helps a bit :-)

BeerBabe makes loads of clocks for breweries out of old pump clips http://darkstarbrewing.co.uk/ have a large number for sale at their brewey shop. The latest ones went down to Dartmoor Brewery after Twentyfour12.
You can also find a load of ‘beerings’ at http://www.beerbabe.co.uk/ourshop/cat_575316-Beerings.html but just the 1 belt on-line at this time http://www.beerbabe.co.uk/ourshop/prod_2556230-Dark-Star-Bottle-Cap-Belt.html I need to make more for her ;-)
However these days the RUBBER has taken over, scary I know…
    Cheers :-)

kimbers I was on the Fat Bike! I just about survived but came off twice on stage 4, once on the off camber section and just before the finish as per earlier photo (great shot by the way). Loved the event though but I only entered coz the wife had a stall there http://www.beerbabe.co.uk selling her ‘Up-Cycled’ bike stuff. I actually enjoyed all the climbing even on a 1 X 10, turned it into a 2 X 10 now as we did Twentyfour12 on the Fattys a week later. Results, I think I was 38th in class, so no where near last! amazing…

julioflo Unfortunately not, we’re in the Surrey Hills. A lot of folk thought we were from Dartmoor because we organised the Beer sponser (Dartmoor Brewery) and we served it on the friday night. It’s just something we’ve always done for Martyn due to our beer connections. We did the same for the Exposure Euros. However if you are ever up this way give us a shout and you can take ‘Fatso’ or ‘Cupcake’ out for a spin. :P

monkeychild thanks for your support. I did start as a Fat Bike pair with BeerBabe but she had a bad fall 7 weeks ago & broke 2 ribs, her wrist & knocked herself out! She felt sure that she’d OK but after 1 lap everything she had broken was hurting so it was best that she stopped & I carried on! Cottage was fantastic as was the section from the Farmyard to the finish. I also enjoyed the river st but I had a couple of moments in there. In the end I had no falls in 24 hours which was a result. Can’t wait for the next one

I was the guy on the On-One Fat Bike & I thought it was the best course for years at Newnham. All climbs were rewarded & not just there to make a climb. For me this was the best year for incidents, just two & both minor ‘easy tiger’ moments. Even the Torque riders had learnt to talk! & were very polite & encouraging, thank you Matt. It was defo a Fat Bike friendly course you just had to get that 1.3km Cliff Climb done. Other riders keep talking about roots & wet rocks, what roots & rocks? I didn’t notice any on my 4inch Floaters ;-) A great event & great racing with you all, lets hope there is a next year !!! Now to prepare for Gulbergen 24 another Fat Bike adventure this time in the Netherlands.

The Fatty is the most fun I’ve ever had from buying a bike. Everything else is for sale ;-)
The rolling chassis is a grt deal. I’ve the same probs as most with complete bikes (we have 2!) Tyres not seating, rusting bolts & the Avid brakes are just pooh & have gone, oh & I broke my seat mount twice but that could just be my riding style. I would never complain about any of those probs coz the price was right & the bike is a dream to ride even at trail centres, raced a 24hr in Belgium on ours & more to come.

For me, well I’d just luv to get hold of a new Borealis Yampa at 23.68lbs !!!

FBR = Fat Bike Fun ;-)

See now you know why I let you look at my arse for so long last weekend.

For me the 1 x 10 has made me stronger & fitter but if you want to extend the distances or say race a 24 hours I know the 1 x 10 would destroy me which is why I’m looking for a 2 x 10 maybe 22/36 something like that.
But whatever you decide on just do it you won’t look back, we’re going to sell everything else & save up for a second Fat Bike each. Question is what?
