I work in a high school, some of the teachers are dressed up as what can only be described as idiots.

    Today is now hell.

I have tried all three and settled on the segment. I loved the Gyro, but it felt a little too xc but had plenty of pop, the alpine 5 was too much of a gate for me, it sat too tall and was not very planted. The segment ticked all the boxes for me, burlier and slacker than the Gyro, but with the same pop. It sits lower than the Alpine 5, it can take the same hits but keeps you planted. I run the segment with 800 mm bars and 50 mm stem and it is amazing.

Thanks, I have found a GPS file for the Auchindrain loop, looks good, maybe 35 miles all in to the cottage I am staying in. Sounds boggy.

I am helping to organise an interform bike race, although I had no idea that it was bike week. We are supposed to be a cycling hub school, but it is all about racing rather than commuting.

It’s a bit light on options to be honest. I don’t think it is good replacement for Aperture, it is better than iPhoto thought.

ROSE bikes are brilliant, they have some great stuff on sale now. Very quick too.

WHW is great, but I have done it. John Muir just appealed as the in laws live half way on it, so if I did a two dayer I would have free accommodation.

One day would be a blast, but wanting to take it a bit easy, besides I don’t have a cx bike anymore, looking at doing it on a rigid 29er. Mmmm. I could borrow one….

Morning, I am riding from Holmfirth, but I night try and head over that way. I must admit to never meeting Chris, only chatting via this forum and trying to arrange rides (sadly which never worked out). Could you give me a rough idea of your route so I could try and meet you? I will be on a (borrowed ) orange gyro, which is orange!

If you’re saying you can bodge this system yourself; how are you going to run 50-80psi in the inner tube without it filing the entire tyre?

20″ tube? would that still expand to fill the space? I like the idea to stop burps…mmm…there is some experimenting to be done.

I had this problem until I discovered that the cog on an Alfine is a narrow one, designed for a 9 speed chain I think. If you are using a singlespeed chain, then it is not wide enough to hold it on. I now use Sturmey Archer cogs, such as this click me and have no more problems.

Can I please thoroughly recommend some Walsh Spirit Peak shoes? Old Skool, but so comfy and grip like nothing else. Get these and some seal skins for the ultimate, worn them in all sorts of conditions and they are brill.

Yeah, I guess most mountain bikers don’t come from a club background. Do we need a club when we have such a great meeting point as here?

Yep, all the time when I am on my own, I do find that it makes me very paranoid when on slightly cheeky trails. Same with skiing, if I am on my own it just adds to the whole experience.

Read the book “the town below the ground” by Jan-Andrew Henderson, then go and do all the things like Mary Kings Close, when you go to greyfriars, find the black mausoleum and see how long you can stare inside it, do the same with the covenanters prison. Poo-tastic!

Go to the surgeons Hall museum. The significance will only be there if you read that book. The Dr knox exhibition is the creepiest thing ever, never mind the book made out of human skin!

There are loads of things in Edinburgh to see that are not creepy, such as Calton Hill, the royal mile, Princes Street Gardens and the museums/galleries, but it’s the creepy side that makes it such as fascinating place, imho.

Yep, 8spd all the way, got one on all my bikes, been riding a second hand one on my c456 for 2 years now, no issues at all, I do the atf oil thing once a year, get smoother and less draggy every time. Never going back!

Yeah rode it years ago, loads of front tyre pinch flats, but all forgiven once you hit grisedale, simply mesmerising.

Yeah, white bars are out of place, but 100mm!!! Chain is horrible, I admit.

Hose is not leaking as such, I had just used in and it is dribble. Drain? Nice…

Just in case anyone cared, I have now put the new forks, bars and grips on. Much more subtle.

Bars are 810, they are a BIT wide TBH….left them uncut for now, but experimenting with the width…

Mmmm, well I did it a few weeks ago (first time) and sunset was around 9, got down just as it was getting dark, BUT had major puncture on the way down. We came down rangers, which is much better than the Llanberis path and then telegraph road, which is where I had punctures, the water bars ripped a hole in my tubeless tires, which caused no end of issues.

Once down rangers, telegraph road would be good fun with lights.

It is roughly two hours climb if walking, but a lot of it is rideable.

Mind you, I have only done it once…

+1 for OpenDNS, works from the router, so better, IMO than device specific filtering and you can tweek it a lot. Perhaps if you sign into youtube and set it to filter explicit content then it may be safer?

The black bit for the dropper cable is just there until some protection tape comes.

Not sure of the purpose of the black bit, maybe to look like it’s stronger?

    I like it though…looks fast…

Did it recently with a friend and see no reason at all not to do it solo, really good ride, but pretty tame as far as mountains go.
