MTB so you have the option of adding fun bits/taking tactical short cuts.

Not sure I agree with Hope hubs.
I’m lucky if I get 6 months out of a set of Pro II bearings, so hardly fit and forget.
Tubeless set up (flows) has been good, but still needs very regular pressure top ups.
My Crossmax cracked after 6 months, so not them.

I think most Shimano high end drivetrain bits are about the most reliable things I’ve used.

    A crayfish.
It’s like a lobster, they shed their entire skin to leave replica lobsters.
You can put fish in with them for decoration/ for them to eat.
    Low maintenance.
You can eat it if she gets bored with it.

    Sounds do-able.

surf and turf – big mac bun, quarter pounder in the bottom, filet o fish in the top

It’s a shame you have to work at McDonalds to experience this.

I can also sympathise- my brother had a recent sports related head injury and was hospitalised, unconscious for 2 weeks before he was making any sense…
He was in hospital for a good 3 months, but seems to have made a full recovery, and is now (9 months later), eventually, back at work.
In my experience, on the brain injury ward, seriously makes me realize how lucky I/we were- many guys who were there (mostly in their 20s) had no chance of a full recovery. :(

How do you carry your the clothes / things you need for the day, beefy?

I fit what I need for the day in a small camelbak, but keep most stuff at work in a locker.

I take pleasure in my commute and like to do it as fast as possible.
I use a couple of grands worth of carbon road bike, rather than a hack bike and don’t want to add unnecessary weight, drag and rattles.

I think you have to just accept that in this country, you will get wet.
I do have showers and washing facilities at work though…

So, even if ‘the bike industry’ did drop one MTB wheel size, which turned out to be a BETA max size (24, 26, 650b or 29er…), there would always be bike companies building niche frames/rims for the masses who have stuck with what they always preferred.

the benefit of a chocolate hobnob is infinitely greater than 10 custard creams.

And in turn, the benefit of a caramel digestive is infinitely greater than a chocolate hobnob.

Caramel digestives will never leave crumbs in your tea, and you can trust them 100% not to collapse when dunking.

Sticky bait works, such as peanut butter, chocolate spread or ketchup!
Traps against the walls, in their ‘runs’.
Anything like cheese or bread, they just bash out of the trap without getting killed…. (buggers!)

I had a big problem with mice a couple of years ago.
I used sonic devices and snap traps for many months, with little effect (although killed loads)- they breed so damn quick.
Eventually, the only thing that sorted it was blocking every hole I could find with wire wool and ‘filler-paste’ type stuff (they can get in a hole the diameter of a biro), and borrowing a cat for a couple of weeks.

What you need is something a bit different- change is good.
A nice new hardtail or road bike will give you the motivation you desire.

    Hope that helps.

The wind at the moment is definitely the worst thing.
I’ve had a few mornings where I’ve been on the road bike, riding hard into a headwind hardly making any progress, unable to look up due to massive hailstones lashing down into my face.
Still do it every day, and I find the filthier the weather the more invigorated I feel when I get to work.

My 12 mile each way commute looks set to become a 45 mile each way commute soon, so may not be doing it every day then….

I viewed a house 6 months ago, and was told there was lots of interest, and if I wanted it, I needed to put in a quick over asking price offer.
Over the next couple of weeks I had a number of emails telling me that as the vendor hadn’t had a suitable offer they would be withdrawing it from sale- unless I made him an offer.
It is still for sale now, at 20k less than it was then.
