That one’s a bit of a tear jerker.

Great short film though. Thanks for sharing!

mike – I “acquired” 2 new bikes in January…I can spend no more on bikes for a little while 😛

    Jamie – that’s rather amusing – thanks!

wwaswas – brakes and gears aren’t too much of an issue (at least not for short rides), but putting the necessary weight through my arm to hold on isn’t a very pleasant experience and it then continues to hurt for ages afterwards. Riding one-handed isn’t the same but I am gonna try some tri-bars (and even fancy trying a recumbent!)
have already started trying to write with the wrong hand. It’s rather amusing, although I expect I could get it to a reasonable standard fairly quickly 🙂 – Thanks!

Billy- cheers, 3 years is a long time! Well done for getting back into it 🙂

Thanks fasthaggis – that’s a good video! You don’t need bikes to fly though…I did a skydive a couple of weeks ago – think I’m missing the mtb adrenaline! 😛

Having broken myself there last year I won’t be racing this summer.

Hoping to turn up to take some photos at a few of them though ‘cos I love the atmosphere at the Friday night races!

I wouldn’t worry too much – I had a similar problem after surgery and then taking co-codamol (although I’m taking co-codamol regularly now and thankfully haven’t had the same problem!), think it was almost a week before I…erm…”emptied myself”! 😛

Might be worth nipping to the chemist – explain to them what you’ve had and I’m sure there’ll be able to give you the appropriate advice / pills if necessary to sort you out! 🙂

Becky Kirk- can i ask where did you get your stickers from and is that a standard colour or a respray? Think Mrs JP would like some of those stickers for her new bike!

Got the stickers from here: http://jamiecurry.angelfire.com/cyclealterations/decals/decals.htm
Not just a random site I found on the internet, I know the chap who does it – he’s only recently started this up as a business.

It’s just the standard colour 🙂

It’s been a bit neglected in the garage for a while but…

I did put some new stickers on a couple of days ago 😛

Hope you’re op goes well c_g – at least when that’s over it’ll be one less thing to worry about!

Once you’re healed enough to get out on the bike grab a friend and take it slowly, sure it won’t take long to build up your confidence again! Don’t try and do too much too soon if you’re not comfortable with it – bikes are supposed to be fun 🙂

Maybe avoid the crash site for a little while, but make sure you do go back there, and ride past it – once you’ve proved to yourself that you can (which you definitely will!) I’m sure you’ll be fine!

    Ooof, that looks nasty 🙁
Glad to hear it’s nothing too serious – hope he’s on the mend and back riding again soon!

I’m too broken to do FNSS this year, having crashed last year!

Hoping to turn up to a few and take some photos, if you see me shout!

I’ve been thinking about having ago at the same thing!

    Mac or PC?

I’ve been advised that on a mac iMovie is very good for this sort of thing but I haven’t really tested it yet.

2 days in a row was a bad idea (now feeling very broken!) but a nice whizz down by the canal (just under 2 miles today – go me! 😛 ) for me today…

Crazy-legs – you’re excused from photos! 😛 cheers, me too!

Tazzy – that’s definitely not sunshine! was foggy here this morning (although not quite that much), glad I waited until the afternoon!

ltheisinger – that’s more like it – look lovely 🙂

CG – yep been far too long (although no metal work!), waiting to see my consultant again in a few weeks time but the latest opinion is that this may be as good as it gets. If my consultant doesn’t come up with anything special looks like I’ll be getting referred for pain management 🙁

Northwind – dust? wow! Summer really has arrived! 😛

Now I come to think of it if I stir left handed (I’m a lefty) I go anti clockwise, but if I do it right handed (‘cos I’m broken) then I stir clockwise. How odd.

I’m convinced tea tastes different depending which hand you hold the mug in too… 😳

Mechanically my car gets looked after as well as the bike, but only because my dad takes care of the car!

Not sure when the last time I washed it was though…

+1 for Romster, I’m currently sporting one of these (appropriate I think!)

Seems like good quality to me, but can’t give you a comparison to spokes shirts.

Not sure how the rates compare now but my parents set up me and my brother with Nationwide Smart2Save accounts. (and my brother still has his as he’s 15).
Comes with a pass book thing to get stamped, and then has the option to get a cash card (not a debit card) at the age of 16.
Was always good interest rates compared to things around at the time. Nationwide served me well (although I’ve now moved to natwest ‘cos who doesn’t want a free railcard?)

I would echo the above about getting a 4 (or 5?) door. I have a 3 door 1l corsa (2001). It’s a great little car, sometimes feel I could do with slightly more power but I guess that’s the same with all small cars, and its happy at motorway speeds.

I’ve had it for 3 and a half years (and now coming up to 21) and was just under £600 this year, was about £800 first time round (that’s for just me, but only 3rd party, fire and theft). I expect “student” as occupation doesn’t help that

Not too bad with fitting stuff in, considering – but that’s where the extra doors would come in handy I think as maneuvering a bike isn’t all that easy, grandparents struggle getting in and out too!

    Lovely car…really is… 🙂

I like all my bikes at the moment, which is why I can’t get rid of any of them!

Worst one in terms of quality is my inbred single speed cos it’s just ended up with my spare bits on! Still love to ride it though (or at least I hope I still do ‘cos its been a while!)

Good luck showerman – hope all goes well for you. And healing vibes to everyone else too!

Having decided I’d recovered/could put up with the pain enough to do a little bit of riding (did 3×10 miles on the road bike), definitely felt worth the increased soreness given it was July that I crashed! I then finally got my physio appointment after weeks of waiting.

She told me off for riding, says it’s definitely not helped and banned me until my hand points in the right direction. 2 weeks and nothing’s changed so I fear it may be a while. The weather’s taunting me with its cold sunniness again!

Throwing yourself in somewhere that you’d have to speak to people might help.

I’d describe myself as shy but working in a retail environment for a few years (one where yo uhave to really interact with customers as well, i,e, not just on a checkout in tescos although that could still help), and training as leader in the university’s rambling society have really helped me. I still feel a bit uncomfortable talking to people I don’t know but I’m getting far better at it!
And I had a job interview (all be it for some volunteering) a couple of weeks ago and got the job s I must have come across OK.

Other than that I think it’s just a matter of recognising your strengths and weaknesses and coming up with some sort of strategy so that you can compensate for any weaknesses with your strengths.

I do on one bike ‘cos I swapped it over in an attempt to ride when my hand wasn’t working, haven’t got round to swapping it back ‘cos I’ve not used that bike in a while and my right hand is still stronger (thought the rear brake would be more useful out of the 2 when not mtb-ing!).

    Oh, and I’m left handed

    I love this bike 😀

This one’s currently in “commute” mode with slick tyres. Might be going to make room for the cross bike 😮

    New shiny road bike 🙂

I’m getting rid of this one (‘cos the one above is new), using some bits on my cross bike and selling the rest.

Just to be clear, I didn’t ring 999, I rang the local desk. I (judgypants on here) thought they’d been drinking and did not think it looked a car either lad could afford iyswim.

Oh and I didn’t report it to the police because I was bored, I started the thread because I was bored. I think perhaps I was being a bit judgemental, I kinda thought the car might have been a bit nicked :/

Sounds like you did the right thing, you’ve not reported it as an emergency and the police can decide if they think it’s worth doing anything about or not. Hopefully they decided it was ‘cos drunk youths in a potentially stolen car, who are also intimidating people is probably not going to end well!

@beckykirk43 – good to see you got straight out there and cordened it off with safety fencing… that should stand you in good stead when the ambulance chasers come knocking

That was already there! Trying to stop the dogs destroying *all* of the grass over winter!

I thought it had died down but it’s started up again – horizontal hail and all!

I don’t think I want to go outside…heard a bang outside an hour ago, couldn’t see for a while because it was too dark…have now seen this was the source of the bang!

Shed roof is looking a bit broken now!

I’ve got 1 bike tubeless, has been for about a year (not that it’s been ridden much in the last 6 months!)

I can’t say as I’ve noticed any real difference, I haven’t been particularly prone to punctures in the past (probably shouldn’t have said that!).

For me, I’d say it wasn’t worth the initial cost of setting up (I bought a stan’s conversion kit although I know there are cheaper ways of doing it!). If I get any issues (i.e. when I need to top up sealant or tyre pops off) I’ll be going back to tubes because it seems more simple to me 😛

My nan dropped me when I was little (yes, I’ve heard all the jokes about that one!) – hit my head on the corner of a chair.

I can’t remember anything about it, have a teency scar next to my eye but only noticeable if you know its there and really look.

Apparently I also fell off a chair and hit a table, biting my lip in the process. That was at the same nan’s house (maybe she didn’t like me?).

Part of growing up to get a few cuts and bruises, and invariably some will be bigger than others!

Glad your little one’s ok now 🙂

Maybe we should have a STW singles thread?

    That could be interesting 😉

It’s all very well saying go to a pub I’d imagine that a lot of people (me included) aren’t brave enough to go to the pub alone, and then start talking to people they’ve never met, particularly when those people are chosen purely on the basis of appearance.

Sport/hobbies is probably a good one, as you’re likely to have the similar interests (assuming you don’t take up a hobby just for the meeting people bit!), although in my limited experience all the “good” people tend to be taken!

Maybe I need a brother-in-law to set me up 😛

Dobby – 3 year old cocker spaniel – entirely nuts!

And Barnaby, 11 year old springer – was entirely nuts, calmed down a bit now, old age and only having 3 legs for the past few years is catching up with him…

I’m giving it a crack this year, although I fully expect lack of inspiration will mean it doesn’t last all that long. Will probably end up with more pics from my phone than with my proper camera seen as my phone is always with me!

Mine’s going to be attached to my blog…

    1) No more new bikes (cunningly agreed terms on a new to me frame yesterday so that one doesn’t count!)
    2) Get into med school
    3) Save lots of money for med school, number 1 might help that (and if I don’t get in then I have lots of money for a new bike 😉 )
    4) Work hard to get back on the bike properly, and record my miles for the year when I do
    5) Improve my diet – less cakes/sugar/fizzy drinks etc.
