child in a trailer I wouldn't use a helmet, perhaps would consider it if it would be used on a busy road instead of gravel tracks / bridleways.

Child seats on the back of bikes, helmets are a must imho

I had a mad toothache not long before christmas, turned out I had a sinus infection which (because I delayed going to the dentist on account of really not wanting to go!) ended up requiring surgery.

Hope you get it all sorted today!

Its just a matter of leaning over or finding a friend to come with you. When we went through France I don't remember any being suitable for right hand drive

As has been said numerous times they'll never maintain that, it'll be back to normal in no time!
Why don't they spend there money (and the same team of people!) fixing bloody potholes instead!!

Certainly know that feeling! If you find something that replaces biking let me know (there is some what of a void in my life without it!)

While we're talking about oil on brakes, someone told me that if I wasn't going to be using my bike for a while, just dribble a bit of GT85 (or equivalent) on the rotors to avoid surface rust and what not. Will that work or will it just mean when I come back to my bike the brakes don't work?

I've just bought that very one (just recovering from a broken wrist). My wrist is far from being back to strength so its not been well tested yet (managed 2 lots of 2 mile road rides so far) but it looks reasonably sturdy and I barely noticed I was wearing it.

Back on the bike for the first time today (after breaking my wrist), it was difficult riding on the road with it. I'm hoping I might be OK by next weekend, but I'm not optimistic 🙁

I must be the only person who finds full sus bikes to look really ugly and clunky. Can't beat the smooth lines of a hardtail!

no you're not…there's not many dh bikes that don't look ugly!

these people do great courses, I've done one and I'm going again at Easter. They've got various ones to pick depending on your current ability 🙂

can't wait 🙂 just so I know (never been on one of these rides before)…what's your idea of a pootle? (not been on a bike for a couple of weeks..and got at least a week 'til I'm back so I might be a bit out of practise!

I really like the hotrocks. I know someone who built up a road bike for their son – bought a small frame but used 700c wheels and reasonably good gear so that when he outgrew it they could just get a bigger frame (I guess the same would apply to mountain bikes). It really does depend on the size of your son (working in a bike shop I've seen a fair few people under 10 get away with a 13" frame!

I'm pretty clumsy on a bike (and have the battle scars to prove it :P)..one day I'll learn!

I've normally got a stash of flapjack and sweets. Go bars are alright as well, not too pricey (and designed for the job) but very chewy (and some of the flavours are dire!), things like sainsbury's basics jelly sweet things are good i've found (only a few pence a bag as well!)

Fracture clinic today…I've got a soft cast for 2 weeks and then (hopefully) it should all be "fixed". Supposed to be going to Woburn at the weekend as well as training for some big rides…hopefully it'll be alright enough to ride this week.
Bought a 661 guard for after as well

Its funny you should mention it, I was just looking at Hope t-shirts yesterday. From reviews I've seen as nice as they look they're not good quality.
If you really want one, might be worth contacting them to get more details about sizing?

If its still painful don't use a powerball, my brothers got one and they really do give the wrist a workout! it'd probably be good once you're healed to get the strength back though!

tried riding again today…still not happening.

I've got an inbred, I was surprised by how light it is for a steel frame and I really like it, the longer geometry makes it that little bit faster for me!

the cyclescheme that I know about lets you get a bike thats over you're voucher…you just have to pay the extra so you could always do that?

I'm on Orange, there are some random places where I don't get signal, but I've always had it when it matters (e.g. when my car broke down in the middle of no-where!) as well as in various places riding and walking and no one else could get signal. Used to be on t-mobile and never really had a problem

fujifilm do some cameras that are more compact than a SLR but almost as good (bigger than a compact though). I tend to carry in a well padded bag in my rucksack

I'm contemplating riding in the cast, but I don't want to do any more damage (equally I don't want to lose fitness…I've got a busy summer ahead) and I miss riding already!

I'm driving a corsa and use a Bones rack…really simple to fit, look pretty good and can carry 2 or 3 bikes no problem at all 🙂

although at his age, I really would look into getting a small framed 26" wheel bike – you'll have so much more choice and it may well fit him better.

I'll probably be out on the road bike for a while (don't fancy driving anywhere to have a play on the mountain bike), I need to work on fitness anyway, so a great opportunity!

I found with a bit of practice with shimano clipless I can get unclipped pretty easily…and it really does make a difference, but I often unclip and ride on the flat side of the pedals when I'm on the trails because I quite often find I need to get a foot down quickly. I'm most likely gonna go back to flats on my mountain bike and stick the spds on the road bike!
