I tend to use gt85 or tf2 as a lubricant but thats cus I like the convenience of the spray 😛

can't comment on the brake cleaner, although muc off in general seems good 🙂

My dad works for them, I'll ask him later if he calms down (he's come home from work every day for the last 2 weeks in a huff because he wants to leave!)

I tend to carry some plasters, dressings, tape and some antiseptic. Just invested in a bivvi bag type thing for days walking / riding in the peaks.

Think some steri-strip type things might be useful…where do you lot get them from?

When I was 17.9 (which wasn't all that long ago) I was in a similar situation with friends parents earning a lot more money than mine, although I was lucky as it meant I got £20 a week ema for turning up to school 😛 I got a sunday job, had to pay my mum £20 a week board, but still had plenty of money for everything I needed (and enough to mean that uni is comfortable so far 😛 )

I love the snowy bits in winter, but not all the horrible wet and muddy and windy bits!

Have you tried using an inline seatpost? I don't think one would put the seat too far back.

I have, and it was OK, its on the list of things to buy when I get some more money…
along some some smaller rotors 😛 (and new cranks 😀 )

wow! my old wheels have gone to a great home by the looks of it (and had the same tyres fitted to them!)

    Enjoy the noise!
Glad you like it 🙂 went for a test ride yesterday, rides even better with the new wheels – thanks 😀

sorry I couldn't resist updating with the latest picture…

    (please excuse the terrible picture!)
Think I'll have to get a seat clamp to match my hubs though..

Definitely faster with the new wheels (and grips!) 😛

    Almost 2 out of 2!
The road bike is working well, but the ss ht (which I wanted to ride today) is missing a couple of bolts out of the grips so they spin around and fall off 🙁 new ones should arrive today though (even if it will be after I've left for work 😮 ) It is ridable though 😛

By the time I'm 26 I hope to have done a bit of travelling (at least around the UK 😛 ) and to have a "proper" job

I had a sony ericsson w810i, that was pretty bombproof, survived falling out of my pocket on a road ride, as well as various other drops (some involving puddles!), now passed on to my even clumsier dad.

I swear it's like Ringu or something. Everyone who's looked at Becky's photo will now have massive spiders in their house, emerging from their hiding places for viewing pleasure.

There's definitely something going on, went for a ride this morning, there was a spider on my bike in the garage, another that fell on me when I pulled my bike out and then 3 had made their home around the mirror on my car (none as big as that one mind…). It's not good!

Lovely to look at and very interesting to watch,

If they're on a bush outside I have no problem watching them, I find it interesting watching them wrap up their prey and eating them. I even rescued a bumblebee from a spider once. But if they're in the house, or try to come near me its a different ball game!

Been proper arachnophobic since I was about 12. I even visited my doctor about it as it was stopping me sleeping at night, usually about this time of year when these big bastaRDs start coming into the house.

I must admit after my initial "braveness" I'm not feeling it any more! I keep getting a crawling feeling on my arms and legs…don't think I'll be sleeping well tonight.

Think I was lucky that I only had a few tiny ones in my room at uni last year – I can catch those ones on a piece of paper and let them out of the window. Its odd that it happened today, because I'd noticed earlier there were a lot of the ones in ahwiles picture about. I guess its due to the changing weather.

Becky couldn't you have just left it? Looks like its heading back into its cage, just slam the door behind it!

darn it, why didn't I think of that 😉

I don't dislike them so much that I'd kill them, its the thought of it crawling on me that I don't like. I can't sleep with any sort of insect in my room in case it starts walking on me while I'm asleep.

Roper – I was looking at those pictures and hoping I'd start to like them, but I can't do it…in fact the more I look at them the more I don't like them I'm afraid 🙁 😯

Its all right Elfinsafety, yes the frame is a little too long for me but with that and the short stem it feels pretty good. Just taken it for its first test ride as a singlespeed – does riding get much better? 😀

Within each sport their probably at about the same fitness when at their peak (i.e not just coming back from injury etc.) but different sports need different levels of fitness.

If you look at the people competing in multi-discipline events like the decathlon they are all very fit people but in most cases wouldn't be able to be someone that specialises in the one discipline.

hehe that could be quite amusing… 😛

and Matt Baker, I knew he'd get on it at some point! What with his gymnastics I bet he'll do pretty well

keep it, I had one for a while, sold it because I didn't use it and ended up buying another one a bit further down the line. Still doesn't get used much but its nice to have it for when I can use it.

And I don't have lots of bikes (or money), all I have is the road bike and a soon to be single speed inbred.

    Burley trailers are good 🙂
Adventure ones are pretty good too, and a little bit cheaper I think if money is an issue.

I'm just about to convert my inbred to ss. Taking it to uni so can't be bothered with the maintenance, also think it'll be good for some winter training. Had an ss road bike and liked it so why not a mountain bike too? 🙂

I was feeling to lazy to read the other replies so apologies if I repeat anything.

I too am 5' 4" (although obviously arm / leg length extra may be different!)

I rode a 54 cm langster with no problems at all. My newish road bike is a 48cm Iceni frame, I've had to swap my seatpost to an inline post and put a 60mm stem on because it was too long.

Definitely try before you buy. Even if it is theoretically the right size your wife might be more comfortable on a shorter frame if coming from an mtb background, or might like to be a bit more stretched.

    Hope that helps 🙂

Supermarkets have a lot of offers on some decent printers at the moment (possibly as they know students might want one!)

b r is right though – look at the cost of cartridges, a colleague of mine was given a printer, the ink ran out and then it was cheaper to buy a new printer than a cartridge!

No. We're not a catholic country so either the Vatican should pay to protect him or the catholic church can pay. What should tax payers have to stump up for that as well? Unless he is personally going to knock on every door and say hello!

wheels would be the biggy I'd say. My 16" inbred (geared) is roughly 28lbs and there's nothing overly light on it.

It sounds like in your case its a lot of little things being a bit heavier than they need to all adding up!

If its best before date dont worry. Even use by dates are pretty rubbish sometimes.

The smell test is the way forward.
