Edit: I recently had a blind member of staff- totally blind, which he tells me is rare. Not only did it give me a permanent understanding of making sure documents are accessible for all, it also made me realise how much support there is on the rail network for the visually impaired. I never asked too many questions but he always has support on hand to help him navigate train journeys all anroud the country – and in many other aspects of travel there was willingness to help him.

And yet on the other side, when he worked out of him home office nobody even said morning to him!

It’s not the ads that bother me, they’re as unobtrusive as is possible- it’s the sneering echo chamber of increasingly aggressive comments. Not open, self mocking charismatic dickheads with opinions that could be argued with, that it once was. The humour  seems to have eroded to a point I can’t see it anymore, and I try to think that might be me getting old, but I’ve seen old posts as times gone by and it really is different now.

Chain reaction or Brant’s over promotion of his moleskin knickers wasn’t a problem, because my liking for Grumpy Mark, Hannah, Alan, Chipps, etc and all the lovely forum posters that were relatable people , were more important  – but the amount of posts now that just rude, even across long standing members, made me walk and cancel. FFS why are folk so stubborn about going to the doctor/A&E?

Possibly because there was a long phase on here where going to A&E was repeatedly talked of as a bad thing to do that took resources away from people that needed it  – go to a walk in centre instead etc. It was used in many instances where the advice should have been A&E were it not for A&E being under-resourced, but it became a fashionable reply at the time because of that, and it was repeated over and over again to the point it became the standard response for anyone without a leg hanging off. Dare suggest any different, and you can guess the rest.

I had an artificial PIP joint put in my middle finger, under an arm block so I was awake. Forewarning – I’m a pussy.

I was not a good patient, as in I was quietly(ish) shitting myself the whole time at my finger being cut wide open and various bits of dremel action on my bones.  Noise, smells, vague sensation of being cut apart – that stuff. Think it went on for about an hour with oodles of students watching on.
The anesthetist was an absolute legend though, and kept coming into to chat to me as he realised I was a bit freaked out by it all – eventually he got to me in a state of relative calm just as the surgeon said “right, joint’s in. Do you want to have a peek at it all before we stitch up?”.

“**** no” apparently wasn’t the answer he expected.

However, I also learned that day how utterly brilliant anesthetists are.
