For the time being, see how he gets on. Cranks are off his old bike, if he needs lower gearing then I’ll sort something out.

Not at 7am in the morning. Its never that bad unless there has been an accident at the lights.

I live 100yrds from the lights, on a week day its not that bad.

M4 > M5 (21) Weston Super Mare exit > A370 towards Bristol. Take a right at Brockley Coombe lights (3rd set of lights you come to), Airport is at the top of the Hill.

    No Bristol traffic to navigate.

Thanks everyone, I’ll look into roofbars for her, can’t put bikes inside as they are her boys bikes so no room for them going down that route.

Didn’t think hanging bikes off the glass tailgate was a good idea.

@MCTD – building a 26″, 24″ not an option as rear wheel is v brake. O is 8 1/2 next month, tall for his age 140 cm. Even if it doesn’t work out he will learn how to put a bike together.

Currently in the process of acquiring parts to do this with my son. So far I have got a 14″ Giant alu-lite frame off Ebay for £9.40 and £40 on a Cane Creak headset. I already have some brakes (mixture of v-brake rear and disc front), rear XT mech, right deore shifter, Manitou forks (kindly donated from a work collegue), r ear wheel (old XT with rm20 rim, will get something light when it comes up), saddle, bars and cassette.

Need to get 165 cranks, front wheel, seatpost and 50mm 25.4mm stem, then we can start building.

Oh and some sort of chaindevice. My thinking is as he grows i will upgrade the frame and transfer old bits from my bike when I need to upgrade

    Anyone got a Mula?

Anyone know the weight of a Stuff / Shred frame? He currently has a Shred 20 and that is pretty weighty. Maybe why he doesn’t like riding uphill. One of the reasons for looking at the Mula.

Thinking air fork as easier to tune as he grows. My thinking is as he grows I will just get a bigger frame.

    S-max driving position good.
    Lots of room for kids.
Terrible blind spot due the huge A pillar, lost a large tractor before now! You will see what I mean when you drive one.
Reflection on the windscreen in sunny conditions.

Peugeot 307 SW, wheels removed can get three bikes and wheels in the boot. Remove a rear seat 4 adults and 4 bikes.

Great as a family car, easily took 2 adults, 3 kids, 1 dog, bikes and camping kit on our last holiday to Scotland. Average about 55mpg, sometime more, fully load to Fort William got 46 mpg. Much better than the S-Max we had before that was falling apart after 3yrs.

I’ve tried SPD’s offroad a few times and just can’t get on with them, always find myself thinking how I’m going to clip out if things go wrong, and guess what they do!

With flats this goes a way and I can just get on with riding. However get on fine with them on the road bike.

Finally got around to putting on a V brake on the rear with the travel adjuster (after scratching head to work out how the cable needed to be threaded !) amazing I can now stop the bike just with the rear and it will lock up.

Thanks for the advice guys. Just need to do the front now.

Peugeot 307 SW 1.6 hdi, lots of room, can get 3 bikes in the boot, so with seats down can get all camping kit in.

Sleeping in the car with bikes in might be difficult, but rear seats can be removed easily.

Thanks guys, think I’m leaning toward the V brakes as its the cheaper option at the momment and I’m using the bike for communting so mud clearence not really an issue.
