Thanks mate. I am aware tyre choice is very subjective. Just wondering which tyres folks can fit in this particular frame with clearance!

Does anyone know if they work well with an exposure helmet mount? I have a Diablo but the vents on my helmet are not the best with the mount.

Why not just use sealskins socks with the damp shoes?

    Superfeet insoles are great.

    LoCo,

Out of interest, if I was to go to 110mm with the pikes and hated it, would it be easy to go back to 120mm. Excuse my ignorance in this!

    Cheers,
    Matt

That’s great folks, thanks for the replies. I have bought a Pike 120mm for a Stanton Sherpa frame. I just wanted to check it could be reduced if I fancied it. I’ll try it at 120mm and see how it goes. LoCo – I’ll give you a shout if I think it needs to be reduced.

    Cheers,
    Matt

Perhaps that’s why they’re cheap. Bought in error and rather than bother with re-hosing them, just sell them on instead.

Can’t you just return them for a refund?

Sherpa complete bikes are sold with 120mm forks. Would they not be sold with 100mm if that was the better option?

sandal100 and survivor – I am really confused about offset. I was under the impression that 46mm would slow down steering and 51mm would make it slightly more responsive. I had thought that if going up to 120mm travel, it may be beneficial to have 51mm offset. I understand all X-Fusion 29er forks are 51mm offset so I would have no choice if I went that route.

If anyone is an expert about 29ers and fork offset it would be great to have some input!

Thanks alexh. One question – does the DLA let you use any travel between 110-140mm or does it just let you use either 110mm or 140MM.

Out of interest Survivor, what offset are your Pikes? I can’t get my head around the 46mm/51mm thing. Which would be best with the Sherpa?

Excellent – thanks for the help. Pretty keen on the bike and definitely want a decent fork up front. I will consider the Pike, Trace and Stage. Any other comments and help gratefully received!

Thanks for the advice mate. Out of interest – what would you say would be the ideal fork would be for the Sherpa?

Keen on Macdui. Would you recommend in under northern corries, up to plateau and summit and then descend to Hutchison Hut then out via Lairig an Laoigh?

Thanks – that’s great advice. I have walked up CBM and thought it would be a great descent. That was years ago though and I’d heard that the path had been ruined from an MTB point of view. I have heard conflicting reports to this. Do you have any recent beta?

Thanks properbikeco – great reply. My friends who are teachers echo what you are saying.

Thanks Properbikeco. I have spoken to a few teachers who have also said that it is a good time to enter the profession for the reasons you state. I have spent time observing classes already. I am also aware of the diversity of schools in the area. I was a police officer in Glasgow for ten years so I have spent my fair share of time in the more challenging ones! I would look forward to working in different schools throughout my career.

Thanks again for all the input folks. It has been very useful. It’s great to hear from people in the job just now who do manage to maintain a healthy balance of work, family and leisure time!

Thanks for the reply Stevious. I guess as a teacher it will take the first few years to develop a way of working that also allows time for family and cycling/climbing. I will be in it for the long term though so I will work hard to ensure it is a sustainable way of life for both myself and my family.

I would be teaching English somewhere in central Scotland. I have worked in stressful jobs in the past and have always managed to switch off from work when required. I hope this would continue with teaching.

I wonder why there is such a big discrepancy between the free time of someone like BigJohn’s Mrs and that of Sancho’s mates?

It’s great to hear some positive replies to this. I guess a lot depends on the school you work in and the management style of the senior figures in the school.

Great replies – thanks. I wonder if there is a difference between Scottish and English systems in this respect?
