    I’ve got a Garmin DC 67W

It didn’t capture two transits passing a pack of cigs between them on the M6 but it did catch the plank who changed lanes without looking and ran straight in to the side of us last week

    I’m running Tech3 V4 with standard floating rotors 203 F&R.
I’m not the narliest rider but I’m 100kg all up and the bike is 25kg. I find they work brilliantly for me, I do my own spannering and I’ve never had any issue bleeding them or changing the fluid

The Tech4 levers are supposed to be better again and AFAIK Hope recommend the V4 for ebikes not the E4

This looks great no mention of price or warranty that I’ve seen. Can’t wait for the MGU version…

Currently you pay everything over £23,250. There is a proposal to introduce a cap of £86k in your lifetime but that has been put back until October 2025

MinL currently paying £111 per day for nursing care, non dementia

this outlines it all quite well

I use an Evoc e-ride FR Trail to carry a 500w Bosch battery as a spare, it’s manageable for trail riding but with 2 litres of water and other kit the bag weighs around 10kg

    I feel for you all

My MiL just gone to a care home about 6 weeks ago. An agonising decision but the reality is we should have done it a while back. She was on 4 visits a day but she has been falling and could still be on the floor all night, which is what hospitalised and ended up with her in 24 hour care. She is now safe, well feed, clean and dressed and when she falls there is someone to help straight away

Got it all to face again with my parents, 95 & 93 they still live independently but are really struggling and living in worse conditions than I’d like

There’s no dignity in old age and nothing to recommend it apart from the fact it’s better than the alternative

Here are my SH-M220 carbons from 2001 or thereabouts

they’re old and knackered but I only stopped wearing them because I’m in worse condition than they are and they are so stiff they were making my feet hurt

Never found anyone who says in the T&Cs that they will carry any lithium battery on its own

It must be possible because you can buy new batteries from manufacturers and suppliers, but not as a normal buyer/seller

That said when I bought a used Bosch 500 PowerTube it was just post undeclared. It arrived without any drama and the world didn’t explode into a fire ball

I have a pacemaker fitted due to pauses in my heartbeat, but I also had Atrial Fibrillation so end up having an AV Node oblation which makes me total pacemaker dependent for a heart rate
I still get out and ride, although I have gone to an ebike now. The main issue is getting the pacemaker to increase my heart rate as the demand increases because the giro is designed for runners and doesn’t always kick in when I’m riding. So if I’m doing a big climb and I’m stuck at 70bmp I struggle and that’s where the ebike helps
It’s always good to be a bit fitter and getting out in the hills helps me both physically and mentally with that

Yep, I had trouble with the initial connection, seems the tracker had gone to sleep and I had to move the bike to wake it up, connected first time then. If I was doing another I’d pair it before I fitted it

I have a PowUnity BikeTrax. Does what it says on the tin. Depending on the motor it is going on there are various wiring kits, I have Bosch Gen2 and there is a piggyback connector for the display connection but I went with a universal lead and soldered it to a front light lead as I though it was nearer
It come with a backup battery that charges when the bike is powered up and lasts 2-3 weeks
The only thing I’ve found wrong is the app (iOS) is sometimes slow to update when you lock or unlock the tracker
I’m pretty happy with it and will probably pay the monthly fee when the included year expires

It amused me when I reviewed the GPS file after the first ride that it included the car journey there and back 😂

    I have a TSO and a Benchdogs mk2

I bought the Benchdogs as an upgrade but I’ve never used it after I trial fitted it because I find the TSO quicker, easier to fit and more accurate
Shame because I like Ralph and have a few bits of his kit which I do like

Thunderbolts, don’t space it off the wall it won’t be as rigid. Drill hole in the post and the wall the same size, usually 6.5mm No need to countersink the head they will just pull in flush
Some about 120-140 should be fine

Not sure what ovoids are made of except that it is type of coal mixed, as far as I know, with cement dust and that is what you’re left with and what clogs the chimney.
Again as far as I understand anthracite is a high quality coal that burns hot and clean which is why they use it for steam engines. It helps that we have a pit in town that still mines anthracite so it’s cheaper anyway £13.50 a bag

Cheers Beamer the Verdo logs look good but access is the problem for buying in bulk. The coal man has to come in a hi-lux, so we’d have to hand ball them from the road. Otherwise I might of considered a bio mass boiler

Have fun and stay warm :-)

t’s like having another child in the house though. We are anyways thinking “what’s the Rayburn doing, i.e what time are we eating, when did we last or fuel in it, etc, etc.”

LOL I know what you mean, at least we have alternate cooking arrangements. I quite enjoy it though or that’s what I tell myself

Luckily our flue draws really well, at least now I have taken the short piece of 4″ gas liner out it doesn’t roar like a jet engine!
I’m not keen on ovoids, they cost more, smell more and clog up the flue throat at the back of the fire box, they don’t makes as much clinker though. I’ve been experimenting with a mix of 25-30% ovoids in with the anthracite, I not convinced though
I’ve not come across the verso logs I’ll have a look
The guy that lived here before us ran it on logs, it must have been a full time job :-)

No secret, riddle it and empty ash pan, fill with local anthracite to bottom of the fire box door, shut spin wheel on ash box door and open a quarter turn, shut flue damper and turn thermostat to one
Obviously it cools down, it would be too cool to cook on, radiators cool as well but the house stays warm and the hot water is piping hot
Would be better if it was filled more regularly, but if you have to go out or over night it’s fine. We’ve looked at swapping for oil or gas but it’s so nice to have the house so warm 24/7 that I think we’ll go Eco connect with a gas boiler for spring/Autumn and when we’re away
When we moved in two years ago we couldn’t get on with it so we had it serviced, the main problem was the thermostat was bust, much bett with one that works. Only other thing is it needs cleaning ever 4-6 weeks to keep it burning properly, especially if we burn ovoids

    Beakers
We have the exact same system and the exact same issue
No problem keeping the house warm, it’s too hot most of the time. But if you go away it can take 3-4 days to get it warmed through again, the house is the thermal mass. I don’t have any trouble banking the fire up and damping it down it will go 10 hours without refuelling
Rayburn make a eco-connect system to allow and control a second heat source. It defaults to the renewable source (solid fuel)
It’s expensive though and no doubt some one with the necessary knowledge could do something similar
You can’t compare an house with no insulation and solid wall to a modern insulated building with cavities. Obviously you want to control costs it’s a case of finding the best compromise for you
IMHO it is an old fashioned system, but very effective at keeping you warm but it needs more control to be comfortable in spring/autumn
