Slight thread hijack….
My Missus had to go into hospital recently and the measured her blood oxygen satruration with a little clip on her finger…. How does it measure it?
End Hijack….
beakerFull MemberI’m not as up to date as others on this but one thing still does not compute to me.
These documents were allegedly downloaded by a lone individual. A 23 year old disgruntled soldier. How did he have so much access? From experience in the military information is need to know and specific access is required. I don’t understand how the US military had civilian diplomatic cables on its network. I’ve no doubt that he downloaded some stuff but all of it? I may have the wrong end of the stick, please enlighten me if I’ve got it wrong.
beakerFull MemberWhen I saw Prodigy earlier this year they were supported by Foreign Beggars who I thought were quite good. I came in halfway through their set not realising that the drum and bass was actually one of the band into his mike.
beakerFull MemberBordon is where I ride during my lunch hour when I can. As it’s not rained that much recently the trails up until today would’ve been dry and quick. The rain today will make it a bit boggy in places but thats about it. Expect short sharp climbs and quick sandy singletrack decents. Have a good ride!
beakerFull MemberI ordered two tiny rubber seals for my ML7’s air can earlier this year and Atkins were great. I’d tried Sideways (I think) and they didn’t have them. Perhaps I was just lucky?
beakerFull MemberIntempo RDI. Don’t get me started on mine!! Mine Died aged 2 years 9 months and reading on the t’interweb there seems to be a common fault and lots of users have reported it. Intempo will repair it for a price though. If yours is less than two years old it’s still under warranty. I’m never buying an Intempo again.
beakerFull MemberAnother e mail sent, I’m looking forward to receiving a wad of bike love.
beakerFull MemberSame here arrived early and had to wait. The black F430 that was getting it’s new boots fitted at the same time as my car was a nice distraction…..
beakerFull MemberBollocks, They don’t need to send engineers to reconnect you, it’s all done by computer. Connections and disconnections all done by computer. +1 to Dr Nick go elsewhere.
beakerFull MemberThat is a magnificent looking bike, whoever sold you that needs his head examining! Glad you’re still enjoying it! You know it’ll be fine, ride and enjoy.
beakerFull MemberIn the wood where I ride there are a couple of xc races over the year. It’s always pretty depressing to ride a day or two after the race and see the litter thats been dropped. Gels and energy bars mostly. There are a few dirt jumps that seem to appear over the weekends, the kids leave all sorts of crap behind. You’ve brought a shovel with you, I’m sure you’ll manage a few crisp packets….?
beakerFull Memberhave a look for american MRE ratpacks. Although they are individual meals they do have a heating element in them rather than carrying a camping stove. With the british rat packs I can recommend the rolled oats mixed with the hot chocolate.
beakerFull MemberI live just south of Warminster and ride around Shearwater. It's not Afan but you can bang out a few miles. Salisbury plain is ok as well. I think some sort of group ride is going to have to be organised as there seems to be a few STW'ers around the area.
beakerFull MemberI'm no ADSL engineer (satellite Communications is my career) but it looks like they've run bi-directional loops which are erroring only one way.
They've narrowed down the fault and it's not your kit so all you can do is sit back and wait. Keep on at them and they'll get you sorted. That said it did take them 10 months to get us connected…..beakerFull MemberWhen we were in our mid teens a few mates and I brought some fireworks and went up to the school sports field. We tried horizontal launches and narrowly missed one my mates DT50, which was quite funny. We then went on launching horizontally against a brick wall. Firework was lit and off it went. It riocheted(sp?) off the wall and went on a ballistic arc, toward my one of the lads. He ran like the clappers and as he ran it exploded a couple of meters overhead. The 'warhead' was red starbursts and they went off with Mark running in the middle. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. Looking back it was the stupidest thing we'd ever done. We got away with it though and I still smile when I think about it.
beakerFull MemberFun lovin' criminals in Salisbury- Tonight, B'day present from Mrs Beaker.
beakerFull MemberJasper Carrot at a Birmingham home game, vv nice bloke. Also met Karen Brady.
Met Jason Mcroy (RIP) at Bike 94/95, he signed my poster and was great bloke. He was hanging around with Mr Crud who signed my purple(!) Crud catcher, agin top man.
Tiff Nedell at Thruxton, he was a bit of a throbber.
beakerFull MemberGot them cheap when CRC had them on offer. Be aware that that you need a vice (workshop type not fags, booze etc) to fit them. I found they made no difference to the feel of my Hopes.
beakerFull MemberAnother Bordon (Oxney Moss) rider here. I've been riding the wood here as a member of the forces and as a civvie with no problems for the past 10 years. Nowadays I ride here in my lunch hour and the odd evening after work. I've ridden through Gurkah camps, NBC exercises and bergen marches. The Mod personnel have always been polite and I've done as much as I can not to interfere with their activities. Unfortunately trip wires and other by products of the military activities that have taken part on their training areas are part of the price of access.
beakerFull MemberMy brother at this moment is between Liverpool and Kendal doing LE to JOG. He set out last monday and is pushing hard. Not bad for someone who got his first road bike in the spring! He's doing it for charity- Help for Heroes.
If you can spare a few quid please sponsor him at http://www.justgiving.com/The-Full-Length
Sorry blatant plug I know but for someone that doesn't do much cycling he's doing really well
beakerFull MemberDon't think terrorist think more rogue nation. I don't want to get into foreign policy debates but if a certain nuclear armed nation wanted to cock up the americans an exo atmoshperic detonation would do it.
beakerFull MemberI drive past the bloody place twice a day and I never fail to be amazed by the amount of people wandering around. It'd be good if english heritage spent some of the profits from the site to make the a303 a dual carriageway past it.
beakerFull MemberI have a 1.5 from a couple of years ago. It's my first road bike and I really like it. I think you'll need to ride both to see which you like though. The big thing for me would be the shop where you buy it from. I'd hate to have to deal with halfrauds if there was a problem. At least with buying a Trek from your (I assume) LBS means you should get better aftersales service….
beakerFull MemberI stayed at Glyncorrwg camp site about four weeks ago. Both nights an old boy came around asking if we wanted to secure our bikes in the industrial unit next door the MTB center. on the first night the bikes went in and were locked together, not to an anchor point though. On the second night I left mine in the back of my car. I was quite happy with it there as it was only 3 or four meters from my tent.
I guess theft can happen anywhere, even when you're out on your bike. You may as well go to Afan, be as careful as you can and have a cracking weekend.beakerFull MemberCrell, If thats £80 for the forks and the frame thrown in I'll reluctantly take them…. That Ibis is lovely! Sorry for the Hijack!
beakerFull MemberYou have my sympathy. I wonder of the theiving sh1tes know what they've nicked or do they have some sort of knowledge? Fingers crossed for you.
beakerFull MemberIt could detect ships leaving NY assuming the water conditions are correct. Big bugger though isn't it?
beakerFull MemberCakefest, I see your point in wanting to protect him from the evils of the world. I think most if not all young boys play war, have toy guns etc. I don't feel that just because he has ten minutes of handling weaponry that he'll want to join up at sixteen and be another statistic. He'll soon learn about war, guns and the military. It's inescapable really, Xbox, friends and the news, he'll soon hear about it. There aren't many parents that feel the same way as you about it, and when he asks you about the military you can give him a balanced view.
Don't write off the military for a career or even the cadet movement when he is old enough. Both will give him a sense of discipline, pride and confidence. Not only that I have made friends and memories for life. Through the RAF I have a good trade behind me and some great memories.
I am the father of a four year old daughter and if she shows interest in the military when she is older I'll willingly tell her all about it, good and bad. If she wants to join up I'd be more than happy. I know there is a risk but I can't stand in the way of what she want to do with her life.beakerFull Member"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
I don't know who said it but it is true. Seventy years ago this August the Battle of Britain was well underway. Hitler and his high command wanted to eliminate the RAF before operation Sealion (The invasion of the UK). Because of the UK military (in particular the RAF) the invasion was postponed. Four years later soldiers of the British Army in conjunction with others began landing in France beginning the operation to liberate europe.
I understand that we were in no danger of being invaded by the Taliban but the military are a tool for use by the government of the day. You might not agree with how the military are being used and you should take that up with the government. Thank fully because of the deeds of men all those decades ago you are entitled to have those opinions.
The manpower for the armed forces has to come from somewhere, town centers, Cadet Organisations and at events where the public will be, unless you'd rather conscription was brought back in? You don't join the military and not know the risks, but thank god for those that do. The next time it might not be such a distant war.You didn't agree with the way that the Army were present at Mayhem and you didn't let your son go near the Army stand, there will have plenty there that did find it interesting though. I presume you also disagree with returning troops marching through towns and cities? I'm not ranting or being confrontational, I served in the RAF and I just want people to realise that these people go out of their way for the country as a whole and they should appreciate their efforts.
beakerFull MemberYou need 6001 sealed cartridge bearings. Go for SKF or INA ones. I'm aware that recommending sealed bearings may provoke some sort of debate, argument or mass brawl therefore this is purely my own opinion and neither right or wrong. I'm in no way related to or work for a certain bearing supplying individual who appears on this forum……

beakerFull MemberI got my ML last november and I don't think the bearings ever had been changed. Changing the bearing involoves removing the shock, monolink and rear triangle. Knock the the old bearings out as best you can (I used a screwdriver and hammered from the opposite side). To replace them I used a vice to slowly press them back in.
beakerFull MemberBushes or cartridge bearings? I've just changed the lower monolink bearings on my ML7 and they were bearings. E mail Ethan at Maverick, I have several times in the past, he's always been helpfull. His e mail is
ethan at maverickbike dot comGood luck!
beakerFull MemberOddly enough she was on tv on bbc4 a couple of nights ago. It was a program about britpop. I used to have a bit of thing for her back in the 90's but I have to say time hasn't been kind. She looked a bit of a mess, was seven months pregnant and for want of a better expression looked a bit tired….
