Can’t help with the bike but if you’re in the south west of the country at the big base where its a bit chilly at the moment ping me an email and we can sort a brew out? Some sort of STW gathering without bikes!

I got mrs Beaker a nice Emma Bridgewater jug lovingly customised with our wedding anniversary date and the title of our our first dance song (al greens let’s stay together). She has brought me a nice pair of Easton EA70 wheels which were on sale at CRC. I know who got the better gift…….

Sixteen years on and my collar bone still isn’t right. I have a lump where there is a calcification (I think that’s the term) and my shoulder is noticeably different to the other one. I should have had surgery but it wasn’t deemed necessary at the time. I think getting hers pinned was best in the long term. Get well soon Mrs Klunk.

+1 for the Heliguy Atom. For £40 quid you won’t get much better. The shop has a good amount of spares and the forum is an excellent source of info. I’ve crashed mine many times and it keeps coming back for more.

I have one. It rides very nicely and as you no doubt know it can be run geared or SS. It isn’t the most comfortable of frames but it does accelerate quickly. It is designed to run with a 100mm fork but I’ve gone up to 130mm with no problems. It looks best in Orange by the way….

My SS is an Ibis Tranny. It seemed a bit pointless to have it and not SS it. I love how rear triangle adjusts to take up the slack in the chain.

You can’t compare your MHR to anybody else, everyone is different.

I got a Hobbyzone Super Cub as my first and last RC plane. I did ok with it until I got it stuck in a tree. It spent two weeks up there and when I got it down it was a write off. None of that is the planes fault though! As a starter it was very very good. Simple, easy to fly with plenty of spares. I’m now flying a helicopter however….

Mrs Beaker tells me that things were similar in the ladies traps at her previous place of work. Someone was happy to leave a Richard in the bowl ready for the next user to find….

Happy XO nine speed user here. Got them on both my bikes and one pair must be pushing ten years old now. Can’t see me going back to triggers anytime soon.

Thurman, I’m just south of Warminster, next time I’m home (I work overseas) I’ll see if I can get out for a pedal.

@Outspoken. I was based at Rudloe Manor and there was a club next to the camp. This is the best part of ten years ago so there is a good chance its not there now.

Ahh the ‘Hairy Mound’ …. Been over ten years since I drank there. If it’s still there and open you should check out Flamingo Joes club next to the camp. One visit should be enough!!!

I used to be posted there, Box woods was ok for a bit of a play about. Just look out for the aliens underground… you never know if they’ll escape when you are out on a night ride!

I have the matching rear in the garage and neither wheel had been used that much as they had been used on my Dekerf. I have looked online for a new front but couldn’t find one anywhere, I thought I’d see if someone had one here. I’ll rebuild it.

Mugsy, you’re a star! If you don’t mind looking when you get back and letting me know that’d be fantastic. I’ll keep my fingers crossed you have one. Thank you!

Same thing here. On the google search I did it seems a full reset sorts the issue out. A bit of a bind and very disappointing really.

Good effort lads! Nice to see the RAF team doing well. I rode a couple of inter service xc races when I was in and was mechanic for a couple of Red Bulls. I really enjoyed being part of the RAFCA.

Yes, the weather can affect the satellite link. Rain and snow can attenuate the link to a point where it is unusable. Certain frequency bands are more affected than others. Remember that you need clear line of sight the the satellite from your location as well. A colleague of mine uses a system provided by Bentley Walker, he doesn’t seem to have much trouble with it.

Well as it stands I’m more likely to buy a 29er over a 27.650B or whatever it is. That said I’m more likely to buy a 26er over a 29er and even then it’ll be second hand….

I once rode through the middle of a Gurkah bivi site hidden away in a wood. Three or four bashas either side of the singletrack I was riding. I’m not sure who was more surprised, me or them.

Some sort of nice mountain bike component/accessory that you’ve had your eye on would do? When she says she doesn’t want it, you can then have it?

One of my previous bikes was a Dekerf Team ST. The suspension was no more than about half an inch which felt like having a bigger tyre on the bike. It wasn’t a patch on todays lightweight suspension designs but at the time it was light and pretty much bob free and seen as a good solution to issues with suspension bikes of the time.

Unmarked civvy vehicles don’t always mean the Police. During a ‘pull up a sandbag’ session with a colleague of mine who spent time in Poole, he told me how he was driving a team van to a job up in Scotland. He was speeding (but not on blue lights) and was pulled by the coppers. The Copper pulled him over and gave it the usual “You were speeding” stuff. She then walked around the van. There was no way she could have missed the lights in the front grille of the van but chose not to mention it. She gave him a ticket and let him on his way. My colleague then said how glad he was that she didn’t open up the back of the van. In the back there were eight blokes in the back wearing black kit and ready to go….. He got the ticket cancelled upon his return to Poole.

I had a Super V 1000 SL and it wasn’t too bad! The Headshok wasn’t the best though. +1 for Bigrich though. Back in the 90’s every manufacturer had a different design and everything was cutting edge. It made buying the magazines worthwhile…..
