Another bird geek here. My best sighting of this species was of 4 bombing about bothering various hirundines close to Frensham Common. Awesome sight. Especially pleasing as I’d just been watching a Dartford Warbler too. Ace :-)

Factoid: Subbuteo – the table football game, was named after the Hobby. The inventor was another bird geek. The species Latin name is Falco Subbuteo!!! From memory he couldn’t trademark ‘hobby’ as the name of the game he created, so went for subbuteo instead!

Ahhh. The RS expert already! Ta PP. If Herbold hangs his boots up at SRAM, I’d think about applying!! :o

The 20mm should be a tad stiffer then, no?

Not sure of the set up, but don’t forget you could use glass as a suitable hearth material. The sofa would roll over that part when not in use. My folks have a morso in a room with no chimney breast or conventional hearth. Stove sits on the glass and works well.

Sounds like your going along the right lines. I picked up a second hand Chromag stylus the other year and finally got it built up in january. It’s been amazing for everything. Forks down to 110 and the seat right down it’s been great for belting around the street and jumping. Pikes at 140mm for peak district rides. The full suss hasn’t had a sniff all year!!! Just noticed there’s a nearly new stylus on eBay this morning. I’m tempted and I already have one. It appears bombproof. Seen them being ridden in whistler bike park too with lyriks. Pretty versatile !

Saw a road bike in Royles yesterday. £12,999.00 down to £11,999! Is any bike worth that much?!!

Catering for the Cheshire set there I think!

Caught one humanely by laying a few pairs of wellies and similar footwear strategically against skirting boards whilst flushing it out. Little fella went straight into my ex’s prada white knee high leather boot. Must have been a some sort of fashionista. I was for realease strategy, whilst the GF wanted extermination. Let her do it the only way she could – by squishing it inside said boot. She never wore them again though :-(

I dislocated my knee in a similar spot in the qualifiers last year. Lost about 3 or 4 mins while I was screaming like hell. One I’d got it back in, i decided to roll to the bottom of the quali as I didn’t like the number of people whizzing past. Straight in the med tent. And then to hospital. Missed out on race day :-(

Only just got back to normal as I’d broke sone bone off in there too. Seemed like you were doing ok there too!

I use the bicycle smithy a bit. John is ace.

All the bike shops opened in marple over the years don’t seem to have done too well tbf. Be good if this changed and was a decent shop.

I’ll be selling a pair of mint 454 air u turns in the next couple of weeks if you’re interested.

Good price guaranteed! loamy23 At hotmail DOT com

I’ve been impressed with them really, had 3 pairs of Pikes and to be honest, I liked the 454 airs (non uturn) best. Mainly for the slightly lighter weight. But do appreciate the versatility of the u-turns.

That’s a shame. IIRC, Dean was one of the first to push snowboarding in the UK. I had a trip with them to the 95 Brits in Meribel/Mottaret. Fun times.

Wishing them all the best for future ventures

Misery? I’m still chuffed about number 19. That was the most important goal this year and it was achieved, thanks.

Won’t be too long? Now that IS the sound of summer! Never mind skylarks or swifts!

Hello bud. I’ve got a 1.9 swb and I went with 18 inch load rated wheels and rubber. They look quite oem which is the look I’m going for. They are a nice balance between size and being sensible over rubber costs etc! Also, I understand I can still use my steel spare as it’s the same overall size. It’s been lowered 40mm too, which again is a balance between being sensible etc.

Email me if u fancy a pic to weigh up how it’ll look :-)

Got the captains seats in the front now and have a set of caravelle seats to go in at a later date – rear bench which folds out flat and two rear captains. I’ll be letting the rear captains go if anyone on here is interested… They are ace but never in my plans and I think they will spend more time out of the van than in (they work on the rail system).

My plan is for a versatile van, mainly everyday people carrier with the 3 bench seats in the rear/bike van and occasional camper with drive away awning attached. I’ll love to do it as quick as you but it’s on a slow burn at the moment! I’m skint!

This is useful stuff, especially Grunkas link. Thanks.

From reading some about some peoples projects, it sounded like it was indestructible.

I just want a half decent hardwood, pref certified, that’s not going to cost the earth. More research needed!

    Hora,

Do let us all know when you plan to ride your CX bike down the descent into Rowarth. I’m sure a few of us locals would like to watch. There’s plenty of trails locally in the same ilk.

We’re lucky to have such good trails and the ability to ride some of the best of the peak from the back door.

I was off the bike after a stack in the alps in July. Dislocated patella and cracked a large peice of bone off in the process. calf got stuck on some rope at the side of the track whilst i went over it. Got almost back to normal in Feb, then slipped coming downhill hill walking in the peaks and the other one popped out – fortunately not half as bad. I feel double my age (35) at the moment and hVe put weight on not being on the bike.

After speaking to various about this, ive been told it’s just a case of building VMO and quads up. I think a support/brace wouldn’t stop the patella coming out if it really wanted to.

Would love to be told otherwise though, especially if the brace was comfortable and didn’t have a mind of it’s own!

Saw a speed camera van parked like this the other day in Bramhall/Hazel grove complete with cyclists having to move out into traffic. Mad!

Nice spot. Defo a water rail and not totally unusual to see a tame-ish individual chilling in a garden/public area not giving a hoot about the fact it’s supposed to be shy and retiring!

Haha. Just noticed your post. Not much in Britain that it could have been tbf. How about a magpie missing it’s tail feathers?!! Is that too obvious? Female Great Spotted Woodpecker?

Anyway, hope it’s something more unusual for you!!!

    Happy Christmas dude.

I’d defo have a look at the Chilcotin. I’ve had an Endo, built up with lyriks, 1×9 etc for a while and it’s been awesome.

Seems like people were building endos burly or trying to get an xc whippet out of them. Knolly have put 2 bikes either side of the endo now – endo sl and Chilcotin. A light build delirium may work for you too Jedi. The 4×4 linkage climbs really well. A 170mm lyrik would be sweet on that!

^ Agreed. I also think the standard of Costa at motorway services is appalling compared to the ones on your high street, which themselves are very average. That, along with the price gets my goat! I’ll try and stop at Starbucks on the services for their freshbrew filter stuff – I appreciate that’s not always possible!

I had a pre elevated chainstay al-mega DX in Yellow. Used to put every penny into it from my part time jobs. twas stolen! Seem to think there was one in the background of a recent copy of the mag. Same spesh bottlecage I had on mine too. Made me do a double take!!

Lovely bikes and I’d guess there is a decent market for them still?

Just got off the phone to them and cancelled the service. Won’t enter in to refunding me my first bill of £100.27p until line is fully disconnected as I may incur further charges – ie use phone/Internet. Bit difficult seeing as I have never had a dialling tone or been able to use broadband since signing up in October.

As far as I’m concerned, it’s the same as being robbed in the street. If anyone has a head office number, be much appreciated if they could drop me a line. Ta.

I signed up in October yet still no connection. This despite them billing me £100 which didn’t include half price connection fee as promised by them. Also promised was the first bill coming thru 30 days after connection.

Hung up on 4 times whilst speaking to customer services, spent circa 4.5 hours on my mobile (go their premium number)to try and sort it out. Last promise of a call within 3 days is now over a week ago. Need to call them shortly to chase them and I’ll no doubt be on the phone again for ages. I’m dreading speaking to them as I know I’ll get no where and more broken promises from some poor underpaid Herbert in India.

    Avoid like the plague IMO.

Thanks for the info on the racing jackets. Not sure what to do with them now!

Re the 2nd question – last paragraph of my original post I meant jawbones….doh!

Cheers Houns. Just be good to make use of them to be fair. They did have Persimmon water jacket vented lenses but at £85 it was perhaps a bit steep for the old frames with paint cracking off!! Besides, I’d get more use out of a clear lense.

Without question the Ventana. Warranty, Quality of the (hand) build, custom options, customer support and if you ever fancy a new one, they offer a nice discount via the trade in program.

I’ve ridden both BTW and struggle to see how anyone found the rear end flexy – it’s the stiffest FS bike I’ve ever ridden.

Looks stand out now with all the swoopy, hydroformed stuff of recent years. Depends if you like that or not?

I also like the fact that there are no changes for changes sake – only tweaks to the frame when they are necessary. No 09′ this 010′ that, new colours, new graphics, fonts etc, which is so common now.

Take them both for a test and let us know how you got on!

It’s like most places with it’s really bad places and not so bad. Worsley is nice, we have close friends in Pendlebury and they have a lovely period house in a nice street with decent neighbours and no experience of crime (touch wood!). I work with people who live in the quays and struggle with car thieves getting into secure parking etc. Works both ways!

    Its a great bike…fullstop

The new one looks great too. Hey, Essel's is even in my size!

Not owned an orange for 16 years and obviously never owned a 5 but wouldn't have any hesitation in doing so after a demo last year. I've ridden a fair few top end sussers and usually shy away from hype and make my own mind up – I thought it rode super.

    Congrats!

    Dave,

Looks like I was late with this post! Last year I changed my X5 and went with a Knolly Endorphin. The 4×4 linkage pedals excellently and its everybit as stiff as my old X5. Still love Ventana (and have an El Salt which is a rocket) but did fancy a change. Nice standover too especially on the smaller sizes 8)

Knolly have been great with CS and I have a few diffent bits on there, like you used to with the X5 – running 140mm Pike or Lyrik U-turn coil. Currently 1×9 and loving it.

Just a suggestion – good luck!

PS – you selling the X5?
