Thanks for the ideas so far, much appreciated. Just been googling the James Bond place. Forgotten that I’d been there years ago! interesting fact re the stretch cars – how gutted would you be, getting kicked out? No big fat gypsy weddings here though fortunately.

    Keep em coming ta.

Have a look at these people. Stayed there a few times and it was great for what it cost. Under new management now it seems…

A lot has been said already, but I’ll throw a couple of things into the mix!

Trip to the coast? Brid, Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and have some fish and chips!

If you like Wildlife, take a little walk around Wheldrake Ings – 10 mins from York. Try an after dinner stroll in summer, really good chance of seeing the barn owls – especially if they have mouths to feed, they’ll be a lot of daylight hunting going on. Other flora and fauna are also available. It’s an important SSSI.

Try Oscars Wine bar. Good kids menu and the food is ace.

    Cool! :-)

Im in a similar boat – bad knee injury at the mega 2010. Just starting to feel like I did before it happened. Enjoying the riding much more. Here’s to an ace summer!

Stayed in Malcesine which I can much recommend. Short bus ride/cycle to Riva and has a chair lift for Mt Baldo. Nice range of accomo – we stayed right in the town centre which was incredibly good value for money. Shout if you want the details – will dig them out if u think Malcesine is an option.

Lovely spot for a bit of everything. Very jealous!!

Sherwood will build you a straight tubed version. No problems. And the up charge wouldnt be much. In fact, I bet you could have it done for less than the cost of a brand new spot. That’s the pro of the Ventana, it’s from a true custom builder. Have it as you want it.

I had a El Saltamontes (now with new pivot location and straight TT) and an X5. The Saltamontes absolutely flew over anything – lakes/peak/highlands etc. I wouldn’t discount that purely on amount of travel.

Ridden a manner of spots in the past, the original being the best IMO.

    2 lovely bikes, good luck!

Yep. As above. I’ve had this too a couple of times on two VAG motors. Don’t ask me why, but when the battery is low it loses it’s ability to unlock before the locking or boot popping functions. Bizarre!!

I always wondered if he had another sign in in here. He did get a lot of stick tbf.

Think Hora kinda took his mantle.

I hope he’s in a one bike nirvana.

I agree that Evra shouldn’t have goaded Suarez at the end of the game. However, as old grump said it was with his own fans, not into Suarez’s face in a Keown/RVN way, or indeed to the away fans in a Gary Neville way.

Denis Irwin (IIRC) missed out on a FA cup final for tapping the ball away years back and got a yellow, not hammering it into the opposition dugout because his scream n dive in the face of a fair challenge hadn’t succeeded in getting a sending off. Want fairness??? That should have been a booking for walloping the ball away then. That’s not mentioning the wiping his shirt as if he’d been spat at. I enjoy SA football and have seen a fair few games over there – and have a soft spot for Uruguay in fact. But Suarez needs a Stevie G/Carragher arm round him and be told to chill. Not free reign and backing from KK. As I said earlier – it’s bringing the name of the club down and masking mediocrity on the pitch. But LFC are the victims in this of course.

I am flabbergasted people are actually attempting to defend Suarez in any way. Despite not particularly liking Liverpool, I’ve always admired the history, tradition of a big club. That’s slowly eroding away and I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking that.

KK and a fair amout of the support who are blindly following his lead are behaving distinctly small time. Perhaps A Galtieri/thatcheresque diversion from Kenny to distract people from problems on the home front? If so, it’s working.

Oh and Higher Poynton is home to a Santa Cruz Syndicate rider, so it cant be all that bad.

That road layout is mental though. That junction near Waitrose – no one has a clue what’s going on!

Agree with Monksie, that’s a good spot. Perfectly located for a nip out to the Bottle Stop, as mentioned above. I’d say Poynton/higher Poynton is worth a look too, despite this new road layout/lack of paint on the road. It has rail access, very quick on a bike to the hills via Lyme Park. I’d reckon that’d be a cracking location given what you have stated. Not sure of Schooling though.

So we’re saying there’s no hills or industrial heritage to the south?

I reckon Samuel Oldknow may disagree with you.

New Mills ace for riding – great location. The folks lived there for a wee while and it’s not a bad place but I didn’t feel comfortable going for a pint with my old man in the centre. They’ve since moved away, but not for those reasons to be fair.

Chakaping – bought the Revs off you a while back and we had a few emails pinging about re this area and the lakes. I’m in Bramhall. Best mate is in the area where Acre Lane joins Moss Lane ie right on Cheadle Hulme border with Bramhall but only 5 minute walk into the centre of Bramhall. The schools are a draw for sure, but what I like the best is that I find it a lot friendlier place than Wilmslow/Alderley Edge etc. There’s always a lot of community/family stuff going on and being organised. Wilmslow reminds me of London a tad at times – did 9 years there, still love it, but felt I wanted to be back in these parts. I ride out into the high peak, through Poynton usually, but it’s a bit far out for a ride from the door into the peak proper.

Marple, Marple Bridge, Strines, Mellor are better in that respeTct, but not for ease into town/motorways. Lived in Marple most of my life before London and I like it a lot. But wouldn’t change where I am at the moment for sure. It’s a nice balance of everything IMO.

Popped out on the CX bike this morning for a cheeky high peak 2 hour job. Proper cold. Didn’t seem to bother the local farm moggie – mooched past me with a robin in his chops :-(

Got into Manchester now for some beers with my mates. Snowing quite heavily. Good job I got out. Could have happily sat and watched Saturday kitchen eating shreddies, with the heating on full whack!!

I’ve been a big fan of Magura brakes for years, always sworn by them, recommended them to mates etc, but after a recentish experience with said UK Service centre ^ up there I’d say OEM stuff is jut as much of a punt as buying new.

Money isn’t as easy come by to me as it was, but I bit the bullet and ordered a pair of shiney new after market Louise BATs. They never worked properly out of the box, a part failed on me, which wasnt ‘covered’ even after it was only a couple of months of ownership. I paid full RRP, genuine after market stock and felt let down having to fork out more cash for expensive, overpriced spare part, which I felt it was a chore for the Service Centre to order me in.

I’m always loyal to brands and an easy going guy, giving the benefit I the doubt, but it really got my goat in fairness!!

My best set of brakes were cheap and well looked after second hand purchase off here, still going strong. I’m tempted by the Merlin deal myself, as everything else I’ve had from Magura has been bomproof :-(

What about the travelodge south of bury? Just off the 66? Probs could walk to tram stop at a push – north or south.

they’re from ipd doors. Engineered, white primed, shaker 1 peice white doors and a fair bit heavier than the hollow crap we inherited with the house!

Handles will be mounted later on (just pull/push affairs). We will just need adjustable roller catches fitted – which we’ll supply, along with whatever hinges are recommended by whoever fits them (I’m guessing three hinges per door because of the weight?).

I’d have a mooch up Charlotte Street personally. Spoilt for choice there with a massive amount of eating places – wide variety of styles and budgets. One or two cracking pubs too. Just west of Tottenham Court Road.

Toboggan – Verbier. OMG I’d forgot about that, ace descent followed by a swim in the gravel pits with some bikini clad skandi lasses someone knew, lift back up to Verbier for beer and pizza. Don’t get that vibe down in Hayfield!

Thanks. Have scoured everywhere for a similar design but can’t find what I’m looking for (well, in budget at least). Annoyingly Mrs Beagle kept putting it off and now has gone from an express delivery item to 10-14 weeks!!

Have ordered – wait and see.

I do think there are gaps in the market for well designed stuff at reasonable prices (not habitat stuff). eBay has been good to us for top quality used stuff – mostly mid century solid teak pieces. A lot of it sold at Heals etc back in the day and for top dollar too!
