Been using Crash Plan for about a year.

    http://www.crashplan.com/

I have pulled files back from the server so it does seem to work and offers unlimited storage.

Probably not worth saying anything as I would not listen.

But in case I did “Learn to dance” :-)

I have one of these servers and its really good. I have put 8GB of RAM in it and it easily runs 3 virtual machines under Vmware ESXI.

Cougar is right RAID is to save you from down time so you can continue working if you have a drive failure. Its not the same as a backup.

I use Crash Plan to backup to the cloud. It backs up my RAID 5 array that I use for business stuff as well as all the other rubbish I have.

I have used both Jedi and Rowan Sorell and they are both very different and both very good.

Sorry but if she is a real friend, try harder to help her and don’t give up on her. That’s what friends do they stick in there when the going gets tough.

You can get a train or a bus to Bourg St Maurice, but what do you do then ? You still have to get a taxi or a bus etc.

Well unless you are going Les Arc of course.

Also if you fly into Chambery and the weather is bad you have a good chance of being diverted to Lyon, which is a nightmare.

They don’t have a sophisticated landing system at Chambery so its quite common to be Diverted. Also has someone has mentioned a Shared transfer will be cheaper and you will struggle to get one from Chambery.

    Try

Val d’Isere Tignes, Private Airport Transfers

email them and ask for Liz and tell her Baz sent you :-)

It depends on where you are going ?

A transfer to Chamonix is going to be cheaper then a transfer to Val D’Isere because one is 3 times the duration of the other.

Which resort are you going ?

    I love it.

I get to listen to loads of new music. I try stuff I probably would not have given a chance if I had to buy it too.

Someone says have you heard so and so, I go and listen to it, its brilliant.

I use it on my phone in the gym and on my squeezebox at home.

Is anyone using netflix ? You can’t seem to search on the site to see what films are actually available on it.

I barely scraped through some of my mid session exams on my degree. I had always done really well in exams previously to that. I initially thought to my self the I had reached me level and was not clever enough. But luckily I thought I am not giving up. I worked my ass off through the Easter holiday to get my self upto speed on some of the areas I was lacking.

I was fine after that and walked away with a 1st in engineering. So don’t give up it will be worth it. Its still one of the things I am proudest of in my life.

You could get a twin motorbike engined one.

I have worked on one and believe me the twins are not worth the agro keeping them going. The transfer boxes that link the two engines together overheat and shed their oil everywhere. The 4WD versions with an engine driving the front and one driving the rear, just drive plain weirdly.

I had a Westfield Megabusa with a Hayabusa engine in it and its pretty much all the power you need really as standard (180BHP). I turboed mine to 300BHP but to be honest it did not make it any more enjoyable to drive and I was worried about blowing up a very expensive engine. It was flipping fast though :-)

A seven type car with a Busa or R1 engine in it, is a joy to drive on track. I think they are less fun on the road but plenty of people disagree with me.

I had a TVR 5L Chimaera about 12 years ago and that was a lot of fun. I really liked it. Sensible enough to actually go places in but still raw and interesting. I would really like a Sagaris now :-)

    Edited to add

I always thought the SEIGHT missed the point of a seven type car, but each to his own :-)

    +1 Z4M coupe

I have just bought a BMW 135i because I could not find a Z4M coupe in the colour spec I wanted. 135i would not be special enough for a weekend only car for me though.

Not sure if you would get a decent 993 911 for that money but would be nice if you could. You could get a 997 911 for that but I am told there is a reason for them not holding there value as well as the 993 cars.

If it really is a toy rather and it really does not have to double as sensible transport, how about a Caterham.

You are into TVR T350 territory or a Tamora etc. Sagaris still way more expensive.

So why dont they offer pick up in LBS for free, then like Tesco’s etc they are getting foot fall, and then you might buy other stuff, or at least they can try and start building some form of rapport with a perspective customer.

My guess would have to be they are not bright enough to see that it might be a good thing to get people through the door.

If I am overtaking someone it is my responsibility to ensure its safe. I have got it wrong in the past and I have been mortified and apologised. We all make errors of judgement sometimes sometimes we get away with it and sometimes we don’t, but we should always own up to the fact we made a mistake.

But we should remember, like mountain biking it is an adventure sport :-)

Thing is though, if you are on one of those flat narrow connecting paths on a board then slowing right down, waiting and taking in the scenery often means you’ll be forced to unclip and do the looooooong hike o’ shame till the path gets suitably steeper again.

they really should design something that does not require you to do that. Oh hang on wait a minute they have skis :-)

You mean that it is a reaction to a perceived problem, right?

Yes I meant its not a real problem, just a perceived one.

Should proof read before I post :-)

Is it not a reaction to a perceived problem rather than a real one.

A bit like speeding skiers, I have done a lot of skiing and have rarely seen quick skiers who tend to keep to the edge of a narrow piste take someone out. I see less able skiers intimidated by it but that’s a different issue.

I have been taken out a couple of times by people as have my friends. Never has it been by someone smelling or showing the signs of drinking. Just generally by someone who was crap on skis or a board. So Best thing would be to ban learners from the slopes :-)

My oakley A frames are about to die after about 10 years of a lot of skiing. I will replace with another pair. Purple iridium for sunny days and perissimon for low light.

I wear a helmet so don’t tend to wear sunnies, I find my eyes just water without goggles.

I have a dell studio 15 XPS its a i7 Quad core with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

1920 x 1080 display its pretty light and small and pretty pokey.

I run a couple of virtual machines on it too and it flies along.
Depends on what sort of developing you do, I have worked on projects where a build takes 30 seconds and a where it takes over an hour so I guess how powerful a machine you need depends on exactly what you are doing.

I really rate “Core Python” by Wesley J Chun

Its a good if you are already understand software and just want to learn Python rather than how to write your first program.

    I still refer to it.

My Arcteryx jacket did my whole season where I did 103 days on the snow and the last 3 years where I have probably done 30 or so days each year.

Its just about lost its hydrophobic coating so water does not bead on it that well now, but being gortex its still watertight. its still in one piece all zips still work etc.

Just a shell so you can layer for the conditions.

I was talking to my friends in Val D’Isere last night and it sounds pretty grim. Massive winds and some windows blown in etc.

80cm in the day and another 80cm over night. The road from Bourg is closed and opening at 10am earliest.

People were genuinely scared last night.

Get avalanche awareness training !! Get a transceiver, shovel and probe and learn how to use them . Even for off piste light !!!!

    You know it makes sense.

Once you and your mates start doing this sort thing you will do more and take more chances, some things look safer than they are and others are safe but look dangerous.

One of my mates organised it and 5 of us did three afternoons. It was a mix of guiding and some tips to improve.

We had a guide called William and he was excellent, I had great time.

If you can fill a group I would suggest calling them and asking what options you have. I think they are pretty flexible.
