I am saving up for a Aprilia

I have a Tuono V4 APRC and its brilliant, only downside is the short tank range. Other than that it ticks all the right boxes for me.

How about something in between like a Street Triple, comfy but you could do a few trackdays if you wanted too.

I disagree, I think if you are good there is still good money to be made.

I am a contractor specializing in Embedded and Linux development and I have not been out of work since I started 18 years ago.

I am seeing the best rates I have ever had at the moment.

Most of my clients really struggle to find decent people. Lots of people may have gone to Uni but not many of them seem to have studied Engineering !!!

I think its a pretty hard job to get into later in life, but not impossible. If you are coming from a position where you have never even had a play at writing software it might be quite a hill to clime. If however you have done some programming as a kid or for fun and you need to learn how to do it in a more professional way you might be OK.

However if your good (or people think your good) there is very good money to be made.

Yeah a lot of stuff is out sourced, but a lot of the time this is done along side a UK team.

Its is a very wide discipline though these days from Cloud Application programming to Embedded and everything in between.

I went the logitech Squeeze box route.

I have a Squeezebox touch in the lounge, a duet upstairs and s squeeze radio in the kitchen. It works quite well and I can listen to my music, spotify and iPlayer all around the house.

Surely its about getting what you signed up for? You decide on a career in teaching based on the the fact you will get a good pension at the end. Then the goal posts are moved. If you don’t agree you are perfectly at liberty to remove your labour like anyone else. As for the person who said why don’t they strike during the holidays 🙂 You don’t really understand what striking is meant to achieve do you 🙂

Parents only get upset because they treat school like glorified child car.

I would not do it, teaching today is a thankless job as we can see by the posts on here.

Yes you do need to pay people and offer a good package to get the best people in place. As for the “We should not have to pay to get the best” get real !!! Why should someone who has worked hard to get a lot to offer an employer give those skills away for a low wage. If you worked hard to buy an expensive bike, would you give it to me for half price !!!

Teaching is a hard job, its not a job you can do easily and effectively when you get older. So we need to take it on the chin and accept if we want good people teaching our kids we have to pay for it !!!

Or are your kids not worth paying to get the brightest and the best teaching them ?

The Skiing in St Anton would put a beginner off for life 🙂

One of my favorite places though.

I always recommend La Plagne for beginners. Big resort but plenty to ski as a beginner.

Its not my favorite place but most of the first time skiers I have recommended it too have enjoyed it.

I ran a Wesfield Megabusa on track for about 10years it was brilliant.

I ended up turboing it because of the above “Arms Race” So it ended up 330BHP and 480Kg

It was mental, the pic of Spa really reminded me of the trips we used to do. Met a lot of good friends because of that car 🙂

So yeah unless you want to go wings and slicks a 7 type car is going to give you the best smiles on track if you want to go fast.

Mate who used to run a similar car to me now runs an E36 328 BMW Coupe. Its mostly stripped out and runs coil over shocks etc. He loves it and he can drive it too the track and back. I used to trailer the Westfield as it was god awful on the road 🙂

    Interesting and timely thread 🙂

I have just ordered an M820 lever to use with an M810 caliper.

I have syringes, whats this cup thing you talk about ? Will I need it to bleed them ? Or can I just suck a bit out of the reservoir as I push fluid up ?

+1 to Junkyard and sweeping statements, I will contest that I am being quite sweeping and that its not going to be 100% for all.

+1 to BigDummy and needing to get the right counselor, if you get the wrong one it can be damaging instead of helpful.

<hug> to cinnamon_girl as I don’t know your circumstances and its churlish of me to think I know better than you in your own life !!!

Let’s not forget that the over 50’s (of which I am one) has the fastest growing divorce rate. Why do you think that is?

Personally I think its because people are far more selfish than they used to be.

Exactly how do you define this? How crap does it need to be? And for how long? I don’t imagine that anyone takes divorce lightly and the decision to end my marriage of a few decades was not taken lightly.

I don’t know how long, but longer than a lot of people try.

Don’t get me wrong if your in an abusive relationship then I think the other person forfeits any rights they

The idea when you get married is that you can build a life together plan for the future etc etc. If you can’t rely on that what can you rely on?

For every one person who is happy “escaping” a marriage there is often another party battered wondering WTF just happened. So my take on it is if you don’t like the rules don’t join the club !!

So I take it you would never get married again then cinnamon_girl?

Being married to someone is not about loving them when they are at their best its about loving them when they are at their worst. You obviously thought this person was worth it at some point or you would not have married them.

People should realise when they get married they make certain promises which mean its not all about you anymore. So if your life feels crap for a bit, that’s what the “for better for worse” thing is about. You don’t promise to stay until something better comes along do you?

Your a team and sometimes you have to take one for the team. Its unlikely you will live and entire lifetime married to someone and it be perfect 100% of the time. Just because its crap now does not mean it will be crap tomorrow.

People give up too easily divorce should be the very very last resort not the first.

I am aware this might be contentious 🙂

I love touring in the Alps and 300mile days on the sort of roads I go to ride is a lot.

8hrs from start to finish with a lunch stop and a couple of coffees works for me. So that’s probably 6 hours of riding.

Better to do less and have good quality than more and have to cut the good roads short and hit the motorway to make your ferry.

Was it on the M27 this morning ?

If so I passed as they work working on the guy giving chest compression.

As a biker it really shocked/upset me 🙁

Problem with asking for money is as some people have said they can’t afford much. However that would not have stopped them from buying a very thoughtful present that may not have cost much money, but may have cost them time or effort.

So I think asking for cash might make some of your guests feel a little awkward if they could not afford to give much.

You could also take the view that if there is someone already doing it in your area and you call them and they can’t fit you in for 3 weeks, you could set up and do it better/cheaper than them 🙂

Chamonix is OK if you want to spend most of your time on a bus rather than skiing.

Its fine if you want to do a bit of ski touring etc. But for your average week a year skier its a pain in the bum.

Depending on when you want to go, you might actually find that a package trip is cheaper. It almost definitely will if you plan on eating out.

Cheapest way to go skiing is a package during the slow weeks when no one else wants to go. Like the week right after New Year for instance.

Your only taxed on it once though which you would be regardless of if you left it in the business.

You don’t get taxed on it again next year just because you have retained it.

When you come to buy the property if the deposit is tax deductible (don’t know how that works) You will get the relief then.

I had a Chimera 500 from new in 98. I loved the car only problem I had was a hot starting issue. They replaced the starter cables with thicker ones under warranty and it never missed a beat after that.

I did about 20K fun miles in 2 years then wrote it off at Castle Combe Quarry corner. Would probably still have it now if I had not.

It was loud, fast (though a lot of that was probably perceived because of the noise) looked amazing and a lot of fun.

People say they handle crap but I disagree, they however do not suffer fools. They have a lot of grip but you have to remember they are a light car with a fair amount of power (and torque at low revs)

I have thought about getting another. Older cars do suffer from rusty out riggers on the chassis and a service did seem to really mean bolting the thing back together every 6K miles.

However the Rover V8 powered cars were pretty reliable and very simple to fix and maintain if you can wield a spanner.

The TVR powered engines the AJP V8 cars were pretty good and 4.5L engines make a lot of power. They were not built to a price and on the whole were good.

The initial six cylinder engines however were problematic they would eat cam followers and thus cam shafts. This was mainly due to the fact they tried to make the engine cheaper to manufactures. However by an engine that has be re-built by a specialist and you would be good to go and a lot of them offer engine warranties.

If I had cash left after a Aprilia RSV4 Factory and a 911 GT3 I would have a last of the line Sagaris in the garage 🙂

I have a Nexus 10 and its an amazing bit of kit. I am bought into the Google eco system so it works well for me.

Only downside is SkyGo currently does not work on the Nexus 10

Screen is awesome on it, truly amazing.

That said I don’t know anyone who is disappointed with an iPad. I find them a bit clunky but I am used to Android and not IOS.

I have a new 13 plate Trafic sport and I love it.

Its does a reliable 38MPG and about 42MPG on a run if I keep the speed down.

Its great to drive and has all the toys on it. Not really used my car much since I have got it.

It really is ace and a lot easier to live with day to day than I thought it was going to be. That said I don’t spend a lot of time in and around busy cities or multistory car parks.

If you can afford it go the DAS route and don’t mess about with a 125.

You will enjoy it more and bigger bikes have better brakes, tyres handling etc.

As for a first bike my advice would be just don’t get something too heavy. Mate bought an older VFR800 after passing his test. Did a fair old few miles on it including a 3000mile Alps tour with me. Recently I sold him my 09 Street Triple R. He is like a new rider he really is.

I love it not interested in commuting, trackdays and Touring are my thing. But I love it and I don’t know many people (if they can stop thinking about the dangers) who don’t love it 🙂

I am self employed and lost a load of money when I had to do it for 10 days.

I really would not have minded as much if

    a) They would have paid for me to use my car so if I was dismissed could get to my clients site afterwards.

    b) The were a little bit more efficient in the way they organised things and didn’t waste over 80% of the time I was there just waiting in the lounge.
