how old is the Epic? I have a 2003 and saved a lot of the manuals offline in case they disappeared from the Specialized site. I have the official part numbers and dimension for bearings and bolts.

    EDIT: found it http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/pdf/manuals/04_Epic_Tech_Manual.pdf

I throw mine onto the grass and flower borders – someone on here (I think) suggested doing this as a cat deterrent – haven’t had a problem with cats since doing this

erk! 24m and I’m paddling – however the nuclear power station a few miles from here would probably go all ‘china syndrome’ if there was a flood which would at least raise the water temperature..

really glad to read your updates and see a positive step in each of them. I had to look up ‘churros-con-chocolaté’ – they look ace! although a bit cruel talking about them with your son when he won’t be able to have one for a while! :-) . how about STW sets up a chocolate brownie fund? I for one would happily buy the first round for Oldnpastit, Jnr and family.

As a parent this is very difficult just to read about, let alone experience first-hand as you have. My thoughts are with you and your son.

thats bonkers, the bit when you travel through the building reminds me of the opening scene in The Naked Gun or Police Squad!, I half expected it to pass through the showers, death star, kitchen etc…

Lets not overlook the fact that the packet includes a magic christmas decoration.. clearly this is a great offer for those wanting to buy their vegetables AND tree ornaments in one handy container. I was almost tempted by this offer until i realised I could get about 20 spuds for the same price…

Cheers for this cruzcampo, had not heard of this before but just installed it and giving it a go. Its very subtle but i have noticed how bright the monitor is lat at night – but haven’t been bothered to mess around with brightness manually. Darkroom mode is a bit much!

Putting the heater in the back of my van tonight due to having an 800 litre water tank and some expensive filters that don’t work well with expanded water. as theres a bulkhead it means the cab is still cold in the morning so I don’t benefit at all!

My eldest daughter (7y.o.) shouts “oh!, cheese and crackers!” when something goes wrong… It sounds like swearing from a 1920’s boarding school!. We took her up Snowdon this weekend and I was prepared to carry her if needed… she proceeded to walk the whole way up and down and raced me to the car park… kids are ace, just stand back and watch them and you re-learn loads of stuff.

Ha, just watch a girl walk onto the crossing (stopping a cyclist and car), have her picture taken half way and then walk back to the same side she started from! they should have a microphone next to the crossing to catch the comments..

I know exactly what you mean Bearnecessities, my 04 flight 1.6 has just passed its MOT only needing a tyre (which had a nail in it). in the 8 years we have owned it i have put oil in it twice and it has needed a temperature sensor … and thats it! its at the stage where my wife is putting regular dents in it to try and justify getting a new car, but the Focus just will not die! 139k on the clock.

I like to think that when I help someone it goes down as karma credit – you never know when you need to cash that stuff in, but at some point it will be needed. Chapeau to OP, Northwind for the assistance

After the original thread I was sure that this would have a better outcome, anyone displaying the courage the Chris did should be out riding now… it just doesn’t seem fair. I didn’t get to meet Chris but he sounded like a great guy.
Much love to his friends and family.

That sound like a really tough set of cards your family has been dealt. You said the staff at the children’s ward have been wonderful so that is a positive to focus on – they will be doing everything to get you and your family through this. I have seen people offer the advice of ” remember to take care of yourself too” and its true – try to get rest when you can, eat properly and do whatever you need to ‘keep sane’. if you can eventually talk to friends and family then I’m sure they will be an invaluable support, however you know you can always offload, vent, scream and shout on STW…. we are here for you mate.

If it wasn’t for the thread title I would have forgotten what we are waiting for. Now I’m not one for thinly veiled threats… but if STW can find this Janzen fella, then STW can find people that don’t update on parcel deliveries.

    just sayin’

I cant comment on the fence.. someone has blocked the view with a very nice bike. You do realise its not sporting to line up the logos? it robs many people of the chance to point it out :-)

Just about 10 pages into this, read the first one (Dammed) and liked it a lot. Its a bit twisted and dark but that’s nothing new for Chuck.

Chris, just wanted to add my voice to the many others that wish you all the best in fighting this. Your doctors, loved ones and friends will help you overcome this illness and for those of us on STW that haven’t met you, well just let us know if there’s anything we can do.

I think someone on here pointed out that Barclays customers can get Kaspersky free, HSBC customer can get Mcafee free moneysavingexpert. I downloaded Kaspersky and it does seem a bit bloaty compared to MSE but for free I’m going to give it a go.

Guy -“hello Continental? I was wondering if you could recommend some tyres?”
Continental- “certainly Mr Martin, what type of riding are you planning?”
Guy -“I’m wanting something that can handle 112mph. On sand”
    Continental – “err… what?” :-)

I got a similar model – EC330 a few weeks ago (when it was £70), at first it is a bit of a faff getting everything right (I was either compressing the coffee too much or too little) but if you persevere it is worth it. using very finely ground coffee is important too..

The crema is perfectly fine, not as good as from a shop, but then those machines are £1000s
Its quick to heat up and the steam arm works very well. only downside I have found is that the drip tray gets in the way of standard size cups (so you have to use espresso cups first then pour into larger cups if making a cappuccino or latte, so more washing up).

according to the lady in my local coffee supplier[/url], It makes a lot of difference getting a grinder (ceramic plates?) and using whole beans just before brewing.

Tomaso – im in Lancaster so will bookmark this in case I see any of the bikes around. Just spoke to someone in south Lancaster that had their ‘top end’ bikes stolen yesterday – suggests its an organised group of thieves rather than opportunistic.

M1kea – is it worth looking at the Met replacement policy? Met crash replacement
Its a bit vague about cost and your lid needs to be less than 2 years old but might save some money.

Try to get on the recommended tilers/decorators list at the retail outlets. I used to work for a tile importer and we had a few tilers we would suggest if people asked us. One guy got most of his work this way

only saw the highlights this evening and I’m sure they said alpe d’huez was already closed to anything other than tour traffic? could be wrong but judging by the numbers alongside the road today it is going to be very busy.

bearnecessities – I haven’t forgotten the effort you went to in organising the balloons for Bruders 5 months ago, by my reckoning that excuses you an alcohol-fueled post every now and then. Actions louder than words and all that.. :-)

For some real fun, try changing your hotmail password – it asks you to ” type in the image characters displayed below”…. But there is no image!. Im now convinced Microsoft are purposely trying to get people to stop using hotmail for some bizarre reason, otherwise they would have sorted this by now

It was a shame there wasnt trackside camping – I missed the jump of doom and the retrobike heckling. The course didnt suffer as bad in the wet as eastnor did the last two years. Overall an improvement I think.

I’m in the process of building up a frame i got on ebay (+bits i got from people on here..). I was going to make my own tool like Bregante said, but my LBS fitted the headset for £10 (frame was already faced) so I let the pro’s do it. If you plan on building more bikes in the future then buy/make the tools to do it. Its very satisfying to know how all the parts go together.

If it all goes wrong its just an excuse to get another bike :-)
