    I think cycling is not very different from the rest of our society in that drinking is deeply ingrained at all levels. Be it drowning ones sorrows, rewarding one’s efforts or celebrating an occasion, all call for a drink, apparently. I struggle with it from time to time (dry atm). I do, however, think things are changing for the better, which is encouraging.

    Just cut off the original and fit it. I’ve used it on Makita inflators and the airline without issue.

    Punch and then drill from the other side. The drill will dig in and unscrew the bolt. Just be careful to punch the centre of the bolt.

    Sounds like your small sprocket is worn and won’t like the new chain. You could use the original chain or replace the cassette/sprocket.

    Just the tool and a vice to put it in. Put the tool in the vice facing upwards, put the wheel on the tool and turn the wheel anticlockwise (it’ll no doubt require a degree of brute force).

    I run 2×11 (SRAM Rival 22 in my case) with a Spa Cycles twin up front (28/42) and 11-34 at the back. The Spa crankset is cheap and you can specify crank length and pick and mix chainrings. I’m sure the rear mech could cope with a 11-36 easily, but I’ve not needed to try that yet.

    Maillard are great quality. Replace the spoke and service the hub and carry on. You’ll get tons of use our of it. Enjoy.

    I would. I often use old tape as additional padding under new tape. I usually put it where I need more padding, normally on the tops. I have been known to use both linear and circumferential methods. You could just overwrap what’s there though. I’d just start at the bottom and wrap normally.

    On Lebara here (the family and at work). Monthly, cancel anytime. No complaints. Just works and any enquiries (e.g. accidental extra SIM ordered) dealt with politely and quickly. Went through USwitch to get a better offer.

    It’s what I struggle with. No useful advice to offer I’m afraid. I have a ten mile commute. As soon as I sweat at all, I’m in for a whole day feeling damp and cold (no showers etc at my work). It is a real barrier to cycle commuting. I’m planning on the electric solution, just to reduce the sweat. I’ll miss the exercise though.

    For me the benefit of running two chains is that I can whip a mucky one off and replace it with the clean, freshly lubed chain. The dirty chain can now be cleaned and lubed ready for going back on. That, and getting more useable mileage out of a cassette.

    Mine is an older one and doesn’t have the clearance shown in those photos. You’d fit a 40 in there. 35 is plenty for what you need though.

    I can confirm that a 35 fits (Maxis Overdrive) with a little room to spare. Pretty sure I could fit mudguards as well but I wouldn’t want to go bigger. The chainstays are the limiting factor (predictably).

    Strangely enough, I have a Super Galaxy SS project in my workstand at the moment awaiting suitable rubber. I can confirm that 45c doesn’t fit (it was worth a try!) I’m going to try 35s tonight as I don’t have any 32s to hand. I’ll report back.

    Always err on the side of caution with a suspected DVT and insist on a scan. Do not rely on a negative blood test. My GP did and I went on to develop a PE. Fortunately I survived to tell the tale. Your GP did right to put you on blood “thinners”. I’ve not suffered any bad side effects from them.

    Very nice. Currently doing similat with an old hard tail that I was going to get shot of as donor. A freebie (but fairly minging) frame in a more appropriate size, some rattle cans and some cheap forks and it should be ready for bike packing duties.

    I love mine. My commute is all rural and it’s perfect for that. I have had very positive comments about the visibility of the light as well. I’d thoroughly recommend one. Battery life of the 515 is easily the whole week’s commutes. I just leave it on standby and it comes on when I start my ride on the Garmin and goes back into standby when I stop my ride – very easy to use.

    The Microshift grip shift for the Nexus is awful (had to replace four of them with Shimano) so I don’t hold out much hope for the trigger shift. They also go the wrong way!

    Good work. Cold Turkey worked for me. It certainly made me not to have to go through it again! As others have said, mindset is everything. I quit as I realised that I was being exploited by big business at the expense of my health and wealth. Reminding myself of this stopped me even being tempted to touch a cigarette again; I haven’t in the last 15 years. I did put on weight due to snacking but told myself that I’d rather be a fat ex-smoker than a (not so) slim smoker. Keep up the good work. It’s not easy but you are doing the right thing.

    I’d definitely rebuild if using new spokes. Ali Clarkson has some great videos on Youtube that show what a simple process it is. Sheldon Brown is, of course, an excellent resource. There’s nothing more terrifying satisfying than riding wheels that you built yourself.
