I’ve had two DVTs that didn’t show classic symptoms. The second one resulted in a PE as the blood test was a false negative. Don’t risk it, get a Cat or ultrasound scan. Hopefully it’s just cramp.

Run some chicken wire around them and they make great chicken runs; and you can still bounce on them if the deck’s sound enough (and you don’t have an aggressive cockerel in there).

Literally just tested positive this morning. Just a cough and a bit of a temperature so far. Unfortunately I can’t go into work tomorrow now so stand to lose several hundred quid!

I made my own solution by screwing a Garmin mount to and old Moon (?) clip. Worked fine on a Planet X seat pack (I always use an improvised lanyard just in case).

I’ve an Airbike 9-50 that is working well after a few months. I’ve also just worn out an 11-36 from them (hg) and would have replaced it like for like if they had one in stock as it was faultless, if heavy. If it’s any use to anyone I went with a Zitto from AliExpress which appears identical. Airbike themselves have always been very helpful.

Yes, Ryan’s videos are very helpful and his explanation of erd very good. I’ve always made and used erd sticks from old spokes. Don’t sweat it on the flange spacing as +/- 1mm here will make bugger all difference to your spoke length.

Thankfully our garden is abuzz with bees atm. They’re loving the brassicas we left to flower. Almost too noisy, but glad to have them. Need to clear those brassicas soon, we’ll have to wait until the bees are done.

It will wear the crank threads (not the pedals) prematurely and then there’s the risk that you accidentally cross thread one every time you do it. I wouldn’t.

Edge Explore 1 here. I concur with Fossy. I gather that battery life is better on the more recent version, but mine works fine in power save or connected to a power bank if touring or doing truly epic rides. Integration of Garmin Connect and Komoot makes uploading routes a breeze. Nice big screen for aging eyes too!

When I rode it the bulk of the traffic was cars that were supporting riders. It wasn’t until  Moffat that I realised that it was the same cars passing again and again. Why these riders needed someone leapfrogging them in a car I don’t know. Without these cars there would have been minimal traffic. Hoping to do it again this year.

They randomly took £200 off me for underpayment 😕. As far as I can see it can only be down to their poor maths as they only corrected for overpayment last month!

The Vaude stuff appears to have been virtual. They accepted my order and then six hours later they emailed to tell me that they had no stock. Methinks they cocked up. It did look too good to be true, and it was.

Airbike do a 9-52 cassette too: it’ll be cheaper than the E13. I have a 9-50 on the hardtail (SRAM NX). On my drop bar bike I run 28/36 as my lowest gear with SRAM Rival 22 and that’s fine for loaded touring (40/11 highest).

It’s an excellent event. I’ll be doing it for a second time this year. Did it in 2022, got soaked in the thunderstorm at the Devil’s Beeftub and didn’t quite manage to ride back to the start the next morning, but it was ace. I missed this year so must do it in ’24.

A redish will be simple and quick enough and solve your issue. I’ve done this for exactly this reason and it was fine.

I’ve just ordered some 44’s and they’re still showing as available. Bargain, thanks OP.

I’ve tried those, they didn’t deflect the beam enough. A suitable Fresnel lens would be a great product.

My 11-36 has been fine. It replaces an 11-34 SRAM something or other and just works.

I have a pair of Topeak adjustable bottle cages on my Big Bro (frame bag uses up all the triangle). I had them lying around and they’re not that pretty, but they work well with different size bottles and can be made smaller if not in use. No problems with handling or bottle retention.

It’s a tight fit. Recently got my Brother Cycles “Big Bro” in our Aygo. It was a wheels off, seat post out job and a right squeeze. It was a very uncomfortable journey in the passenger seat with it slid right forward! But it did fit.

TLDR: Don’t mess about, get it seen to and insist on an ultrasound scan, don’t rely on a blood test.

Minimal swelling and a dull ache for me both times. On the second occasion the blood test gave a false negative and I was told all was well. Developed a PE (clot on the lung) the following week (while ghyll scrambling, not ideal). Straight to A&E, Heparin etc. Fortunately no long term effects (I could blame it for my lack of fitness but it wouldn’t be true). Now on apixaban for life as the rivaroxaban gave me bad reynauds. On the plus side, my BP is now within acceptable limits for the first time ever.

I have had a false alert since. I didn’t feel any shame upon being told I was fine. You can’t mess about with this shit.

Agree, it’s a long way from Moffat to Edinburgh and the road surface is shit. It feels worse if you’ve just turned around and headed back to Carlisle. On the plus side, it’s lovely to see it in daylight on the way back. Drunk people in Edinburgh amazing as you would expect 😂.

Definitely go a size down from original Humvees. I’ve gone from XL to L, which is nice 🙂

My Forerunner 735XT won’t play nicely with my Redmii Note 10. It’ll pair eventually but I get no notifications and it’ll sometimes not communicate at all with the phone. I get no notifications with my Edge Explore either but it always uploads rides reliably. I blame the cheap phone. I assume it has some power saving setting that I can’t find. Frustrating.

Well said Hannah. I do think, however, that we should all stop referring to it as “Fuel Tax”. It is indeed a tax on fuel, but only such fuel that is used by motor vehicles. It would be better described as the motoring tax it is. Maybe this would make clear, as Hannah does, that the Treasury is specifically subsidising and sanctioning the use of polluting vehicles at the expense of the tax payer.

I’d just wind them fully off, and then use fresh nipples for the rebuild.

I’ve got the moon aerolite. Great backup light. Weighs virtually nothing and combines front and back light.

My Explore 1 is like this. It will charge to 100% from a powerbank but only 86% on a charger. I have always considered it a Garmin “feature”.

SRAM 10 speed MTB derailleurs have the same pull ratio as 11 speed Rival/Apex. I’ve used a GX derailleur with Rival shifters successfully.
