OK flameproof overalls on here goes.
I have a 4.8 X5 18 miles to the gallon it is a V8 and an 08 registration.I have driven company cars and vans up until I retired and with one knackered knee can get in and out the x5 as the floor is level with no lip to get foot over the X5 is auto and I do about 1200 miles per year, backed up on MOT mileages.
Having driven across the England Wales for work before retiring with up to 50,000 mile per year. The car was bought after 3 previous owners and it costs £500.00 road tax per year. Why should I not be allowed to buy what I want as having driven diesel barges all the years 40+ .
Petrol is paid as I use the high octane E5.
Not got a private plate and service by BMW at their prices so probably costs me in the region of £2000.00 pr year. Cannot have a van as not allowed in the local tip.

Where abouts are you first part of postcode as any decent alarm tech should be able to reset the panel for you. I.E reprogram.
Make sure they set the engineer code to a number you want and will remember NOT 1,2,3,4

It gets a bit more tricky if the service company have locked the nvm, then you either need the existing engineer code or a new pcb in the main panel.

    Hence a factory reset

Check that there is no external signaling on the system 1st. It will probably require a factory reset which is easy to do, make a list of all the Zones used and where they are.(example Zone 1 Front Door entry) write this info down and if local sounder only check your timers Entry /Exit times. You should then be able to do a factory reset .

That’s a point what type of flooring is it, still going to cost but laminate should be easier to trace and repair. As Blazing states hard to damage unless you are dropping things onto the mat before leveling compound is laid.Installer of mat should be responsible I would have thought. As it has not been commissioned.

    strawb3110.

Couple of points if it is going to Earth then the rcb should trip.Do you know where the end of the mat is as it will be terminated there.this would be a starting point, as your sparks can test both ways and use a meter to loop test. Check your thermostat is set correctly for floor and not room temp.Cannot help any more, but a decent meter will help by measuring both legs to pinpoint (nick/break).Local Co to trace and repair may be the cheaper option. Decent test equipment and experience cheaper in the long run. Best of luck.

I don’t think the new smoke alarm has logged onto the control unit have you bought this after the main alarm system and now trying to install onto the existing system.
Have you set up the new smoke to the existing control unit (by doing it next to the (CU) there are usually acknowledging bleeps to confirm that the new unit is logged onto the control unit. (seen by it)
Then test the smoke detector close to the control before siteing where you want it located.
If you can try logging on the Smoke Detector next to the control unit again to make sure they are seeing each other.

Hi the best thing for trying to feed cables behind gaps is a lid from plastic trunking.Fish wire or Draw wires are sometimes to flexible.
go to Screwfix /toolstation or any decent electrical wholesaler and buy a length of mini trunking with lid as the lid is flexible to go behind any cavity.this can be used for many other uses and is cheaper than the Fishwire/Draw wire.push through and tape the cable or wire and pull back gently, it should be thin enough to do the job.
Do not use steel as you do not know what i behing the cavity.

To be honest had a similar problem with HH5 and BT. Looked around and have been with TalkTalk for 18 months now no problem unlimited Fibre for £27.00 per month.
It has been good as gold fed up of paying BT extortionate fees.I have been with BT over 40 years and always paid the highest rate for the service but they could not resolve the problem with the Router without paying again. Also wanted to charge for a callout to check.I have saved a few bob by moving and will move again when I have to if price or service is poor.BT have lost it to big and not customer orientated.

Only my experience they are rubbish we moved to new premises in /feb and still on 0.6 download on twisted pair ADSL.fibre line tested and working on phones at last.VF couldn’t wire a 3 pin plug.
fantastic Pinocchio’s, haven’t told a true word yet. When trying to set up was asked numerous times to take photo’s of back of router ? it wasn’t even connected to anything.Lying toerags.Wifes mobile been told about upgrades then sent out Wrong phone every time.We will not use them again on renewal.
Back to the business set up worse than the old dial up.VF not sending any one out to check but last week have said they will send out new Fibre router programmed up for us to swop over to.
You have been warned, also have had problems with the new phone system, had to be reprogrammed at least 3 times and cannot get the main unit to accept any call.
    Terrible company to deal with.
The fibre line has been checked and ok from OR for 8 weeks as it was previous company that had it in.

(Then go round and make sure all sockets have working shutters (turn off power and try and poke something in) That should be plenty safe.)

Do not try this at home if in doubt get someone in who knows what they are doing.
Never poke anything into a socket unless it is a plug made for the fitting.

Hi we have these in use on our vehicles at work.I would not buy one for private use.Or business.
Nissan service charges are expensive, supposed to have warranty up to 100k, does not cover clutches or flywheel.as a working tool not very reliable.
1 has been back to the garage 4 times with engine management light on & they still have not fixed it. Parts changed and charged for light fault still on.
they have been heavy on tyres and brakes not carrying much weight.
we are moving from Nissan to another manufacturer.4 vehicles across the country giving the same problems.Other makes no problem 16 of different vehicles in the fleet.
Wouldn’t touch with a long pointy thing, seem nice to drive. You have been warned.
Cannot name garages as still in dispute at the moment.

I have used these a couple of times & work very well.Free SIM card.

Comes with sounder fit in small box out of the way needs mains to power the controller.
Remote arm/disarm.It has 4 Zones that you can wire into with a N/O contact going closed in alarm so handy for Switches on doors.Or N?O magnetic proximity switches.
upgrade power adaptor on the ones I bought as supplied poor output, for the money great little working units.
Batteries supplied with PIR and radio contact last about 12 months.
Told users to replace every year any way.

In my travels if I have seen an RTC or accident on the motorway,I always pull in on the hard shoulder and report from the nearest SOS phone.
Most times the operator has said thanks we have got the incident on camera now.
I have mobile phone hands free on board but always advised to report from the SOS as they give location to control room staff.
Like others using the motorways I have seen plenty of incidents, especially being on 24 hr call at times.

You can take the CSCS test at test centres across England And Wales.
You book the test via the CSCS.
the test is mutiple choice and you are told at the time of the test whether you have passed. If he goes for a labouer card he will be allowed on site.
As an this gives him time to go for the ECS card, as stated it is for qualified staff. So his employer will have to help out on this or he does other Qualifications to be sparky.

I had this issue earlier in the year my ECS card had run out and to do it quickly had to go to Kent.
So I rang the 0344 number above and got a local test centre within 48 hrs.
Took the test at a driving test centre and photo taken at same time.
Passed and rang next day for card to be sent out using ID photo taken at test centre, all sorted within 5 days total.
Have since taken ECS at union offices.
There is on line sample tests for the CSCS multiple choice test.
Have a book somewhere from Amazon next day delivery.
There is usually a few test centres close to where you may live ,but when you speak to the CSCS co and ask for their advice. 0344 9944 777 make sure they check for any dates that can be availible in the next few days, and close to you.

Please do not expect fast response from the boys in blue to any alarm with external signaling. All calls are catergorised depending on the system type installed in the premises.
A dialer will only be any good if the phone line is working, cheap to buy and self instal. Most decent domestic control panels Veritas as mentioned cheap to buy check the Bay for prices and next day delivey.
If looking for wireless check out the Powermax range.
Most of my experience is in the high security type sites and equipment.
Recomend having small CCTV system, with DVR cheap as chips from £165.00
    upwards.they do a good job.

    Idiots do happen.

Simple is the easy way, only responding to the question.
I agree that it would be the best way to use the lead only when on mains.

I have seen a guy dump a electric drill into a water container & go to plug back into mains because it was dirty.(True story)
we managed to shout at the builders mate not to do it.240 not 110
done a diagram but cant seem to be able to post it.

That plug on the mains adaptor is wrong it should be a socket that the appliance can plug into.
If that is plugged into the mains then the plug pins will be easy to touch hence shocking.
Mains plug (13amp)to 16 amp socket Female.

    bassman
    Free Member

Yes the plug is on the appliance side.
He was asking if there was another way to do it without having to plug unplug the P/wash/extractor/batt charger.
So these are left plugged into the van splitter.

Feed from Genny via changeover Switch AA position 1
Feed from mains via changeover switch BB position 2
Changeover switch is in off position 00 position 0

If mains operated switch in position 1
if on genny switch in position 2
If in off switch in position 0
You have to go through 0 to get to position 2 from position 1 so it has isolated the mains if on genny output.
He should not be running both at the same time ie mains on and genny together.

I have one of those that andyL shows on my welders cable.

works well – so you unplug the genny – plug that in to your 4 gang then plug it into the extension

That will work as it is mains from a 13amp socket to a 16amp socket, for you to plug in the 16amp plug (No Genny used)direct from mains.
If you try to plug the genny into the socket you will need plug to plug set up.Someone will get a belt from it guaranteed.there has to be a safe method of connection.
The generator output is from a socket
Mains output from source to a socket
16 amp plug is fitted to vehicle units to be powered manually plug unplug which is what the op is doing now.
Wired via a changeover switch no unplugging once connected up.

    Yes
As your plug is not fused at 16 amp.
This is only an example of the changeover switch your electrician will advise you what is needed for your correct use.

As you have to go from Off position to switch over the source of power.
Already mentioned on here you will have the potential for 415 volts on your vehicle.Be Aware of what you are using.

I don’t see why people are having trouble seeing that Glitter is a scapegoat who will pay for the failings of a national institution. One thing you can be certain of is that the person that invited all those under-age girls to BBC events won’t be charged with anything. BBC employees were acting as pimps but Glitter is an easier target and will deflect flak.

These are usually polished, if it is not fitted yet try wire wool slowly not to much pressure then plenty of polish & elbow grease.

Good news but you still need it checking out,and all your breakers need a list of what does what.
Check that the fuse in the spur is not more that 5 amp depending on the size of wiring used.
Must admit seems to be a bit of a diy set up.
    glad you are sorted.

I would switch the breaker of and leave it off until this has been tested.(checked and repaired tested)
As you have only been there a month you will not know how it has been wired.
May be a loose neutral, damaged wiring.this does require further investigation.Probably something simple.
Take out the lamps from all the fittings then have a electrician check should not be a big job for a decent spark.
sorry cant be anymore help at the moment.
Take it up with the previous owner.

Without knowing the layout? if only this breaker is feeding your lights, why connect through a fused spur.Check the fuse with your meter/tester.
have you any other lights from the ceiling in this area.

    bassman
    Free Member

just reread your last saying that the breaker only feeds these lights.
Case of tracing the wiring to where they it is going from and too.
Other option is turn of the breaker and connect switch wires together switch on and off at the breaker to prove it is not the switch.
make sure someone is looking at the lights whilst you do this.

    bassman
    Free Member

I would switch on all lights downstairs, then knock of the breaker to see what it feeds.
do the same with upstairs so that you know what the breakers should feed.
How are you checking for voltage with a voltmeter if there is only live supposed to be at the switch.
You say recessed lights are these fed from the Diss board or from a fused spur/socket.
Carry out the first to see what the breakers are feeding.

Why not go to nearest Walmart from airport on arrival and buy one for $40.00.
Use it and return it as not what you wanted on return to airport.
Money back buy sweets/book for the plane journey.
    Jobs a good one.
