I think I've got someone on the Spesh. Does £300 sound a fair price?

The trailer with the carbon was a concern I had to be honest. It was however suggested to me (by the dealer) that it would be OK??
If I thought I could get enough for the 2 road bikes then I possibly would think about keeping the 'Dale as a 'utility bike' (if the trailer/carbon thing was an issue)

Don't beat yourself up over this. There are thicker people than you on here. It's been proven on several occasions.

We have these at work. Can't imagine they'd be too expensive otherwise they wouldn't have gotten them.

Highly unlikely to be an 'investment' but my attitude is that I work for a reason. If I want something and can afford it, I'll have it.
Regret nothing. Use it as a learning experience.

Mrs McGrew had lessons from Jules at Cyclewildscotland. He's Invershnecky way and does a fair bit of coaching at Laggan.
Highly recomended. It brought her riding on a god bit and boosted her confidence a lot.

    Working this year unfortunately 🙁
Had the VIP wristband last year which was nice.
The shuttle buses worked really well last year I thought. Granted there was a very long wait at the end but to be honest I was in no rush to leave.

I have a number of watches. I like watches, some people don't. I'd not criticise anyone for spending their hard-earned on anything they like (except perhaps drugs and illegal firearms)
Be it cheap or expensive, if I think it's nice or will serve it's purpose (yes, I know. Tell the time!) then I'll get it. Rolex, Tag and Gucci for dress which are all very nice. Seiko divers for daily wear and Polar or G-Shock for the rough and tumble stuff. I have a MR-G titanium G-Shock that is still going strong some 12 years on and still looks the business. It's been in many a bike crash, house fire, RTA the list goes on. It was expensive for a G-shock but it's cost of ownership has been £20 per year so far, so not bad imo.
At £50 for a G-shock, go for it.

If you're looking to keep it close to the Nevis Range then what we did was a day going up and down the gondolas doing the 'red' route and then the following day we did bits of all the XC stuff. There is some great natural trails in the area but for ease of use and having everything close to hand that's a good couple of days riding imo.

Firestarter, 15 at a time! Man alive, that's a poor show. Our CFO is a cyclist so it makes it a bit easier. I am taking over the running of the scheme this year and hope to get the nod in the next couple of weeks. My brigade lap this type of thing up as it ticks boxes left, right and centre plus they've just introduced a new fitness policy so it sits nicely alongside that too.
According to Cyclescheme, the first year we did it we had the highest percentage uptake of any company they had dealt with which was good to hear and also helps justify running it every year. They've recently installed 6 bike lockers per wholetime station and most days they are all taken.

Excellent! Now a £53 watch is deemed too expensive on a STW watch thread! That has to be a record? 😀

Having had cars that have lost me plenty in residuals and cost me a small fortune to run I went for a complete change. At the moment (and for the last 3 years, which is unheard of for me) I drive a Fabia vRS, I really am very happy withit but I too have always hankered after something from my earlier years. I fancied an XR3, XR2, MR2 or GTI and the likes. So for my 34th birthday my wife bought me a 1986 MK1 Golf GTI cabriolet. 😀
as for bikes, my main bike is a Bionicon Golden Willow but I'd love a Team Raleigh Burner although I'm under no illusion that I'd look anything less than a fool on it… Not unlike the Golf most likely 😀

My wife bought me this for my birthday a few weeks ago:

Always wanted a Mk1 GTI and was due to get a Boxster this year but she dented the car fund BIG time with holidays so as a peace offering she combined the GTI and soft-top thing and came up with this. A 1986 GTI cabriolet. 😀
I wanted to have it in 'just left the showroom' spec' but that went out the window rather sharpish when I came across a leather interior for it but still have all the original kit for it in one of the garages.
Just need to do the brakes for the MOT and then it'll be on the road. A new black hood will be going on too.
As it happens my uncle is selling one of the very last MK1 MX5s in fantastic condition. If you want any details give me a shout.

    Paul.

The Coleman does look the business, however I can't help but think it's a bit big. Between that and a four man tent I think we'd take up more than what would be considered reasonable for a small team at an event ❓

trail_rat, those look really good and if the longevity is as you say then very cost effective. The fact there are spares available helps too.

The E-Z Up certainly looks like the benchmark however if I'm honest I could only justify a cost of ownership of circ. £50 per year on something that would be as infrequently used as a gazebo and I'd probably be dead before I felt I got my moneys worth out of the Eclipse II 😀

I thought that looked an amazing price for what it was!
Seems the shelter itself is £129 and the side wall is £15! that was nearly a disastrous impulse buy 😀

    trail_rat,

Do you have a link to the site you used? I've Googled for it but haven't had any luck.

I might be in the same situation in a while and had considered the Planet X or Ribble.
I just had a look on the Planet X site and noticed this

ALL ORDERS PAID FOR USING CYCLE SCHEME VOUCHERS ARE SUBJECT TO A FEE OF 10% OF YOUR TOTAL VOUCHER VALUE.

Bit cheeky! I realise margins are probably tight and Cycleshceme take 10% but come on.

I'm one third of team 'Fire and Nice' which also consists of a mate from work and my wife.
There to make up the numbers and enjoy it.
I'll be the very polite one on a Bionicon letting everyone past, often using it as a fine excuse to stop for a rest 😀
following the 'Puffer I did say I'd get in to training for this. I'll now use this as the start of my 'Puffer lite training…

As a driver responding to an emergency you are now open to sooooo much $hit if you have even the slightest of bumps so I for one prefer to use them as much as possible (where effective.) oh, and the fact that half the time it feels like you're driving around with a cloaking device on as opposed to flashing lights!

Lovely bikes and yours looks particularly 'stealth.' Very nice indeed!
I took the opportunity to demo one at Laggan last weekend. Beautifully finished bike however as with the '5 spot' I came away somewhat underwhelmed. That's not to say I wasn't impressed, just not as impressed as I hoped I would be perhaps. If it was down to looks alone I'd have taken it home there and then!
Looks like I'll be keeping the Golden Willow for another year 🙂 but in a way 🙁 I want new shiny-shiny!
