    rOcKeT,
I have actually looked at that. It’s not as aesthetically pleasing as the Niner but I wouldn’t mind seeing it in the flesh. I did buy my On One Whippet unseen and other than it eating itself it is a very nice bike.
The Niner as that something extra though and I think I’m worth it :D

I too had ridden other 29ers and they did nothing to change my opinion. It just seems to be an all-round package with the Niner.
Buzz, that looks fast whilst sitting still! Not to mention expensive :D
I would have taken it down the black but to be honest I’d rather buy one because I wanted one not because I’d broken it! :D

    Simon,
Kind of both I s’pose. I wanted a Mojo or 5 Spot this year but don’t think I’ll go for one as I was a little underwhelmed by them. On the other hand I liked the ‘look’ (and only the look) of the Niner but the fact it was a 29er, fully rigid and all together not what floats my boat should have meant I didn’t like or want it. However after having a ride on it I kind of ‘get’ it now. And indeed want to get it!
I still like my comfy, bouncy bikes though :D

Stu, :D as I said, hate was a strong and a little tongue in cheek. I very much dismissed it as opposed to hating it I s’pose.
I’m not saying for one second that I’d sell everything and have the Niner as an ‘only bike’ but I’ll happily add it to the collection.
It’s my birthday in 11 days and the desktop background has been changed to a Niner Air 9 Carbon so she knows what I want! ;) :D

I thought that too Geoff however I was at the bike show today and there was nothing there that would have affected the usual turnout at the Wolftrax.
Giant, Spesh and Trek will be there with the Demo Series on the 7th of May though.

I thought it wasn’t too bad.
It was the first attempt and a good starter. Hopefully the success they’ve had ( well it looked busy enough to me ) can be built on in years to come and larger outfits will show intrest and support. Would have been nice to see some manufacturers there showing their wares.
The BMX guys were a bit loud and the MC completely inaudible. Maybe that’s just me getting old?! :D

I tried one of the electrically assisted bikes there today. Quite good actually, certainly see how they’d be good for a commute.

Enough of your factual nonsense, that has no place here!
This is a moaning thread for ill-informed people. Be off with you!

Found a recent one on my phone:

Kona’s a ‘bobtail’ Boxer. Due to the ban on tail docking there’s been a geneticist, Dr Cattanach who ‘modified’ the breed so as to allow doge to be bred with a short tail. Very interesting stuff. My friend at Pictland Boxers is doing very well with them and was at Crufts again this year.

I bought the Nerve MR, rode it, decided it wasn’t exactly what I wanted, figured what the hell, paid the difference. Canyon picked up the Nerve, dropped off the Lux, was a doddle.

Now that’s good customer service. Saying that, I s’pose they’ll come across it a fair bit with being mail order but still…

We do a lot of cruises for our holidays and have done many around Europe so get to see a snapshot of a lot of cities.
My favourite was undoubtably Italy and Croatia. It was my wife that fancied Italy and tbh I had no interest whatsoever in going. LOVED IT! Florence and Rome are utterly stunning with so much to see it can be overwhelming at times. It was however the one place I had biggest preconceptions about that won me over. Venice! We’re booked to go back. We had 1 1/2 days there and I was just blown away. I had it in my mind it was going to be all romantic and generally annoying :D but I have to admit it is up there as one of the best places I’ve ever been to. I could just have spent the whole day going up and down the Grand Canal on the Vaporetto (water bus.)
There is undoubtably the romantic side to the city but there is so much more besides. I think it would make an ideal destination for an anniversary trip.

I’d have to agree with Hora on Barcelona, we were so disappointed with it.
Dubrovnik is also worth a look. Don’t know what the flight times are like but it was a beautiful place with lots of history.
I was at a retirement smoker in Tallinn last month and it is indeed a beautiful city. A nice place for a break but I wouldn’t rush back.

A bit of a battle for pack position between Kobe and Oz.
We tried everything but it came to the stage where blood was drawn on a daily basis and my wife was bitten whilst trying to split them up.
It was strange, one day everything was fine the next it was like someone had flicked a switch, they couldn’t stand the sight of one another.
He’s now an only dog and very happy in his new home (was 6 years ago now.) He still visits when he’s on his holidays at my parent’s house :D

    The latest addition, Kona:

From the top: Oz, Chyna, Kona.

Kona is now 5 months and considerably bigger. I’ll have to get the camera out for more recent pics.

The 3 we used to have. Unfortunately we had to re-home Kobe (left) :(

for what it’s worth, nowhere does it claim it’s the same bike.
It merely states that the top pic is a bike before using Muc-Off and the bottom pic is a bike after having used Muc-off.

Laggan demo weekend on the same days

Really? Bugger, that’s early this year.
I was intending on going to the show Sunday so that’ll leave Saturday for Laggan. Perfect.

Wouldn’t have one of the cheaper options again. Tried a coupleof them and never really did get on with them.
After that I went for a Park Tool stand and can honestly say that spending the extra is very well worth it!

The issue is that it will run the tripple chainset in an ideal/test bench scenario however it has proved in some cases to be unfit for purpose as far as riding on UK trails in your average UK winter conditions is concerned.
It looks like, off the back of this evidence PlanetX have now recommended the use of a double chainset. Having a triple with only 2 chainrings isn’t really going to cut it….well it will, quite literally. Pardon the pun but you get what I mean.
It has been said that the XT triple chainset and it’s rings give more clearance than the SLX that they have been selling as their main build (as with the one I rode/ride/may ride again I s’pose) so I’m confused as to why you’d remove them in this situation.

I’m starting to train our pup ‘Kona’ for trail dog work.
Initially I tried walking the bike between her and I but she’s so good at walking to heel that she was trying to get under the bike to get beside me. She’s unfazed by the bike and happily wanders along side. Obviously just up and down the road again at the moment but you have to start somewhere and she loves it! :D

The big, bold numbers on the dial of the Tissot put me off a little. The CW looks a little classier without them.

Granted, perhaps not as aesthetically pleasing in a school uniform.

Blanket and hot water bottle for the pup and good earplugs for you.
Our Boxer pup is 4 months now and still whines a wee bit first thing in the morning but it’s getting less and less.
Attention good or bad is attention and that is what the dog will react to.

    15 years and 2 batteries.
Was my biking watch until it ran out of battery 2 or 3 years ago

It’s the MRG 130T. A nice Titanium number. Going to have to get it sorted and start wearing it again.

I use a Park freestanding stand as I like the flexibility of being able to take it out of the garage and doing maintenance outside in the sun (if it ever shines!) It’s also good to be able to take it to events.
I made the mistake of buying a cheap and cheerful number and spent more time repairing the stand than the bikes!
The difference spending that bit more made was amazing.

I just moved my MK1 cabby out of it’s hibernation hole today, (really needed to tidy the garage!)
25 years old and it fired up first turn. Treating it to a tune up this year and think it may end up with a new roof too.
I got it from my wife for my birthday last year as her holidays put pay to my Boxster (looking back it was maybe for the best) I wanted to have it as standard spec’ as possible but struggled to find the bits at a reasonable price (if at all) so ended up with this interior (matching door cards fitted too) for less than the equivalent of a couple of tanks of fuel!
Still have all the original kit to return it to standard if/when I feel the need.

someone’s nicked your skirting boards and light switches!

Speaker outlets and skirting boards actually but tbh, that’s the least of my worries at the moment :D

Were those pictures taken in Ikea?

Not far off it! Our interior designer had a day off and I went shopping. Dwell and Budda Bag also got a hammering :D

The bike is/was the stock SLX spec’d bike that One One are/were selling at £999.
I’ve not ridden it since the ‘Puffer tbh. I’ve put the crank back on but it’s still sitting without a chain. I’m not willing to change the crankset as I feel the one supplied should be suitable for riding in this country without damaging the bike.
If I’m honest I’ve yet to contact On One directly re. this (I’m a bit dejected with it atm and it’s sitting at the back of the garage unused having covered very few miles, damaged itself and fallen to bits.) I did comment on the FB page but heard nothing back.
Once I get motivated to go back to it again I will send pics and details to On One and see what they’ve to say. Their sister company (Planet X) were fantastic with my road bike so I have high hopes.
For now I’m happily riding around my freshly serviced Bionicon.

Kobe, Ozzy or Chyna or perhaps our latest addition Kona

No photos of it on the trail I’m afraid.
This was it fresh from the box:

It’s first ride was when I rode it at the ‘Puffer and the non-drive side crank fell off during lap 4* and when servicing it when I returned home I noticed that the very small amount of clearance between the inner chainring tabs and the BB casing has resulted in the mud grinding in to the carbon shell.
I am happy with the way it rides and am very happy with the bike’s VFM however I can’t help but feel disappointed about the previously mentioned issue. It’s hardly ‘fit for purpose’ as far as winter UK riding is concerned in the spec its sold in.
I have read that the XT chainring has better clearance(?)

*Granted I should have perhaps checked over the bike before the race

Having had an iPhone 3G for the last couple of years I have since upgraded to the iPhone 4 and think it’s great.
Never used to like Apple products before but have been so impressed with the phones I’ve gone and got an iMac. A lovely bit of kit although it’s taking a bit of time to get used to all the little differences.
As for the iPad, a family member has one and I like it a lot. I quite fancy having it as a netbook/sit on the sofa and surf/ home automation controller.

It looks like Scotland will be going to one brigade and the existing brigades will more than likely become ‘divisions’ but it’s thought that the structure will remain similar as it is now. We’ll see though…

I’ve heard about that duty system, that sounds…interesting! :o

Our fitness tests for entrance haven’t changed but our annual assessments have and as you mention they are a damned site tougher than before and *will* lead to older guys getting punted.
