Do your shifters mount to the bars? If so you don’t need to worry, its just the option to mount specially designed shifters directly to the brakes to make the cockpit less cluttered.

Only road bikes, who cares 😀

By the way I ride road too!

Yeah SRAM seem to be on the money at the moment. Wonder what these ‘Guide’ brakes will be like long-term?

    Look out of the window!

We are on the edge of good weather so the fair weather riders will be panting and pushing up hills again on their new buzz word bike!

The great thing with CRC (not so great for the LBS!) was that their delivery was so fast it was almost pointless going to the LBS as they were cheaper by a mile and only 24 hours wait for parts. I ordered Monday, dispatched tuesday but not here until Thursday 🙁

Ill give Wiggle a bash next time I think!

Cool mind at ease now thanks!

It’s my first tubeless setup and I just had visions of the tyre tearing off the rim on the first hard corner I go into!

I weight <11 stone and cornering is my weakness if I’m being honest, always scrub off loads of speed due to small testes!

Think it’s a 2.35 Smorgasboard standard issue with the bike. Never caused any issue but I have a High Roller on there now anyway.

So I don’t have to touch the ‘other’ pressurised part of the shock in the shaft itself?

Many thanks for that quick guide by the way!

    Raw.

My 456Evo is raw, I live in the UK and it hasn’t turned into a scabby turd after 12 months of all weather use. Also bear in mind that when you chip the painted ones (and you will) the steel is exposed and it will rust anyway. At least when that happened to the bit of top coat on the raw it doesn’t detract at all in terms of the overall appearance. Patina is cool!

No idea what i’m doing with shocks! I know there is an air chamber in the shaft of the do i need to de-pressurize this in addition to the main air can?

Not in warranty, it is a used frame I got before christmas that has been sitting in the garage whilst i got together the parts to build it up. I don’t have brakes yet, otherwise i would be riding it to see if it loosened up! Think i’ll get some teflon spray lube all over it as a first plan of action!

I use squirt wax lube which I’m well impressed with. If you get the chain really clean before you do the first application you shouldn’t need to clean it after that really. just re-apply and off you go.

Sorry my bad I thought they had addressed that!

Really would put me off buying the Evo 2 then, have you tried looking for decent straight steerer forks? Very hard!

Like everyone I would recommend my own bike which is the 456 Evo. I can only imagine the Evo 2 is better as it has the features I miss on my bike (dropper friendly seat tube and tapered headtube). I’ve done literally evry type of riding you could want to do on mine and it’s been great. I’ve done 45 mile canal rides, XC, trail centres, natural trail riding, downhill runs, road riding and even a bash in the skate Parks and pump tracks and it’s been great. Like I say, the only issues i’ve found have been addressed with the updated version!

Also, buy a raw one! They look great!

    XT Crank by any chance?

I couldn’t be bothered to wait for them to approve the question and then await a response so I called them and it is included, despite explicitly stating in the sales blurb that it isn’t….then mentioning the specs of the bottom bracket that isn’t included and that the bottom bracket that isn’t included should be fitted by a professional!

Sutton Park is good but you have to know where you are going for the best bits! Same with Baggeridge Park which is small but again most of the fun bits aren’t obvious if you don’t know they are there! If you do go to Cannock then make sure you do the Monkey in addition to the Dog. Cannock’s ‘best bits’ in my opinion are the off-piste sections though.

Tell me about it, I just had to drop over £50 for mine, I almost had a heart attack but the bike is pretty useless without it!

Just had to get a replacement for my mega. DT don’t sell them they were customs for Nukeproof but a Rockshox maxle is a direct fit.

Mine has started to age nicely over the last 12 months or so. It doesn’t turn into brown scabby poo, just the metal under the finish darkens.

Almost the same question I asked a few days ago on another forum. I couldn’t decide between Crosstrails or Hope/Crests/Flows. In the end I got a set of Hope/Crests due to them being £180 rather than £350 plus new!

I’ve also got a set of Pikes on mine, obviously I can’t comment on how good they are but going on general reviews you can’t lose!

If you are Raw-ing a steel frame you will want a clearcoat. My factory rawed 456 s getting extra ‘patina’ in all the little stone chips anyway, it would look like a giant turd without any clear coat!

I can praise them too, as the set of Ex-demo RCT3 Pikes they had in clearance for £350 arrived this morning!

    Lovely jubbly!

I’m trying to build up a really good all-rounder. I will be taking the bike up Snowdon at some point and the Wrekin, so I thought the TALAS may be useful. I know I can change the damper out of a Float model into the TALAS chassis if I was really unhappy with the feel.

If money weren’t an object absolutely no doubt I would be fitting new Pikes! Unfortunately i’m building to a budget and have roughly £350 to spend on forks.

You probably wouldn’t really notice an increase in speed, perhaps in comfort/quality of components IMO. I’ve lost 9 lbs this month from my belly and I haven’t noticed my average speed inscrease!

You might feel a marginal benefit over the fact that the new bike would likley have lighter wheels. You will feel greater benefit shedding rotational mass than non-rotational.

    Harry.
