Christ on a broken down bike! You people do seem to make your lives difficult for yourselves. Do you do hill reps as you ascend the elavations of political correctness and moral high ground each morning?

If this is indeed the age of equality, it shouldn’t make a blind bit of difference if it was 4 women, 4 men, 2 woman-1 man and 1 who couldn’t be easliy distinguished ad.lib et.al etc.

A person(s) by the side of the track or road with a non working bicycle (I would hope) would be offered a hand or use of a telephone or what ever regardless of gender.

If it had been myself going past this particular group of ladies, I’d have pedalled harder while loudly humming the theme tune from the Charge of the Light Brigade. Mad as a box of frogs they is. Mad!

I think Scruzer is refering to it already but for long road hill climb sets I use Edale Road (Mam Nick climb) out of Edale to Mam Tor. Up and down a few times. I have set off with the intention of doing Snake Pass out of Glossop and turning round and going back at Ladybower to Glossop but decided to was too a nice a ride and carried on through Bamford, Hathersage etc.

I’m thinking of hooking up with the Wheelers. I’ve been out a couple of times with a club attached to a shop and they weren’t the most enjoyable of rides I’ve had, Very ego led. A couple of guys made an effort to chat on the way round but most very definitely had a superior attitude. It must of been because I wasn’t wearing the club kit like everybody else. Not coming last in the sprints (although despite my best efforts I never made first by some way) and holding my place when the tempo increased only seemed to make the situation worse. I felt like it was my duty? to be dropped off the back and huff and puff to catch back up when they ordained to wait for me (if they planned to wait for me but as I didn’t play their game and stayed nicely in amongst them, I didn’t get to find out).
I’m too old and my riding too important to me (in a fun way) for that kind of silly carry on.
    Sorry for changing the subject.
Joe – you shall have email.

It’s really easy to follow Joe but will pale the Manchester to Blackpool which is really quite flat (although a nice day out).
I’ll plot some routes with better waymarking for you and email them over if you like?
I did another favourite this morning which I think would be nice for you.
Get over to Stockport and on to the A6 (not a bad road before 10:00am on a Saturday). Follow it out to Hazel Grove, right at the Rising Sun and straight through to Macclesfield. Right at the Tesco roundabout, right at the next roundabout and follow it out to Henbury. Carry on through to Monks Heath cross roads, straight on and follow signs for Jodrell Bank (coffee stop at the telescope) then back toward Manchester past the airport (through Tatton Park if you like) and I came home through Heald Green, Cheadle and Bramhall but you could head off through Hale. A nice ride. Stockport to Macc is on fast’ish roads in the main, Macc to Jodrell and most of it back to the airport are quiet’ish roads and lanes.
The Manchester 100 route is a good one as well but I think a GPS for that would be best, there’s some tricky turns that are easy to miss.
I’ll do some more routes with better detail for you. Being on the Peak side of Stockport, most of my road rides go out toward and often into the Peak District and are quite hilly.

That’s one of the handful I have on Bikely Joe. If you fancy it, just pencil in a convenient place to join the route from where you are. It’s very easy to follow but might be a bit longer than you’re currently planning.

Joe – from where you are, out to Stockport, A roads through Offerton into Marple, Strines, New Mills, Hayfield, Chapel-en-le frith and then either a) back along the A6 to Stockport and then home or b) if you want a longer ride, over Long Hill or Taxal, on to Macc and then Henbury, Alderley Edge and back home. All very straight forward routes, You’d struggle to get lost.
I’ll do some Bikely routes for you if you like?

The only interesting thing left of this forum (the other parts of the site are still interesting though) is the genius that is Badly Wired Dog.

I did Crosskeys and Cwmcwm. There’s another thread (Mrs Flash is the author I think) with a link to the rules regs. and tips for getting your bike on the trains. I had no hassles but I was traveling outside of peak times. I’ll link to the thread if I can find it.

    It’s a………..INTERNET CONNECTED WIRELESS LAPTOP!!!!

12 year old and laptop are both doing very well. Currently building a profile and chatting with friends on Facebook, sat at the kitchen table. No wires involved.

It was a pretty seamless operation apparently, no gas and air, alcohol or shouting involved.

I feel like a brand new Grandad 🙂

    Thanks everyone! You all rock!

Ahhh, this is getting better by the minute! Thanks stilltortoise. Loads of stuff for Lovely Wife(tm) to go at when she gets home and in a rare act of forsight, I DIDN’T throw away the password details that I used when the Home Hub was installed last year (or the year before).
stilltortiose now added to the list of STW forum memebers “You rock!” list 🙂
    Thank you

Thank Z1ppy! I’m at work and my lovely wife will be attempting all this in about half an hour with a very anxious daughter looking over her shoulder.
I’m guessing then that if the laptop DOES need to be connected to the Home Hub (assuming the security is in place – although I don’t have a clue if it is or not), this is done by disconnecting the yellow lead (I forget it’s name) from the desk top PC and plug it into the laptop while it gets set up?
The lady in PC World was talking me through it but it was over a month ago and I forget what she said but plugging a lead into the laptop just to get it connected for the first time was mentioned.
Thanks again, you’re still rocking! 🙂

OK starting to look good z1ppy, thanks very much. Home Hub has an arial sticking out of the back and the “Wireless” light has been on constantly since the day it was installed last year.
What’s this thing SSID key to which you refer?
Thanks again. I know it’s customary on here to hang the village idiot out to dry (God knows sometimes it’s deserved and I think I might be just on the cusp now) but there’s a very sweet, very excited 12 year old enjoying her birthday at the hell whole that is high school at the mo’ and can’t wait to get her laptop up and running.
It only got a quick glimpse of daylight this morning as she had to get the bus to school but there wasn’t any arial or anything pointy sticking out of the laptop and nothing pointy in the box to stick in it.
I’ve bought a Norton Anti Virus CD for security if that means anything?
    Not very good am I?
Thanks again everyone. I’ll keep thanking you all ’til the job is done 🙂
You all rock, you lot do.

Yes, wireless on both. Well, certainly on the Home Hub. I’m now in a cold sweat about the £400, brand new laptop.

Sooooo……..what’s the difference? I just assumed all laptops connected to the Internet while you could wander round the house aimlessly.

Thanks for the help so far.

Apologies for the poor terminology. Too late to edit it now.

    “I didn’t really. I’m just bored.

    phew “

We live close to an estate (Offerton Parish) in Stockport which is a hotbed of National Front and/or BNP activity and they came over our way door knocking to drum up support. The wife answered the door and invited him in with her broadest Afrikaans accent. He declinded her kind offer rather sheepishly. Gutless little worm that he was.

I have the Langster Monocco. The freewheel is crap and I swapped the cross top brakes for drop brakes. Other than that, It’s great.
I’m 5’9″ and I have the 54cm. It’s just short enough. Any longer and it would be too big. I don’t fancy your chances of getting comfy on a 54cm if you’re 5’7″.

Nooooo! The red bits are wear indicators! If you can see red bits, it’s already knackered.

I’m in need of a ‘showing red bits’ Sham 990 cassette, Don’t bin it, I’ll come and collect it off you. South Manchester I believe?

I have the very thing in blue and white. Bought it before the price hike £899 plus £35 for pedals.
The best hardtail I’ve owned (and to my shame – I’ve had a few and I don’t do shabby bikes). Light’ish but could be lighter with a few upgrades. They size up small so watch out for that. I’m 5’9″ and I have an 18″. A frame any smaller would be too small.
I was worried about keeping it clean (I hate dirty bikes) and the paintwork getting wrecked. The paint is as tough as old boots. Numerous big rock bangs, not a mark on it. Washes up like new every time.
I could bang on about it for hours but I’ve done that enough on here. I have 5 bikes, (2 mountain, 3 road). I plan road rides on the £2k Willier and then get to the garage and before I know it, I’m on the Cube and off into the Peak District. It’s so comfy to ride. I’ve put a carbon seat post on it (‘cos I’m a carbon addict), SLR saddle (personal preference), Deda Zero stem (I needed a longer stem anyway and I love Deda Zero stems) and it will be getting a carbon bars when I manage to get some (I’m a carbon addict).
See, I gush about it. It’s ace!

Oh you bugger! I’m wondering if I should rethink my Sarn Helen solo exploit next month and ask nicely if The Ladies(tm) will let me do your jaunt in Septemeber instead?
I’m at work at the moment so I can’t see much of what’s on your web site.
Is the route race hardtail’able for a person with pretty good all day riding fitness and average Peak Disrtict ride’able skills or is it Hans Rey territory?

I’m in Stockport and one of my regular road routes takes in the delights of Goyt Valley, Macc Forest, Alderely Edge, Wilmslow, Knutsford, Tatton Park, Manchester Airport and Stockport. I reckon I could Bikely a nice route for you if you like?

Is it wrong to have friends who are not in circles and have names with more than letter?

I can’t believe I’ve just tried to explain all this to somebody else and stated “I is a lazy slut” in an Ali G style. that kind of back fired somewhat 🙂

If it was Man Utd without Ferguson and Ronaldo though steve_b77, I wouldn’t hesitate in backing them lot in Salford.

What time is kick off? I have to go to the Triffid Centre straight out of work at 6:00pm. That’s another world of pain. A Pauls Boutique hoody for an 11 year old – £65!!! Christ on a bike! It needs changing as she’s bought the wrong size. For that much money, I think they should come and collect it and deliver the correct one.

It’s the same tournament just a different name ergo, they won’t be the first team IF they win. I’m beggining to lean toward my namesakes to be honest.

I heard Ferguson claiming they will be the first team to win it back to back.

AARRGGHH!!! You haven’t won it yet and Liverppol and Forest have won it back to back already. It’s changed its name but it’s the same competition you (exceptionally good football manager) plank!

soobalias, if you need some replacement bolts for Odi lock ons, give me a shout. I have some brand new going unused.

The insurance claim would be for new £100 Easton carbon bars. I’m going to use road bar tape on my next set. Ah well, The Ladies(tm) had a bit of a giggle about it. Little ‘un hasn’t seen her dad cry before 🙂
