My nephew (at the time aged 21 years) broke his clavicle and also the top of his arm just below the shoulder joint.
took about 8 weeks I think. Anyway, when he got out of full arm plaster, his GP gave him an exercise to do which was basically to lean over from the waist up as far as he could and with a relaxed arm, try to rotate his whole arm in a circular motion from the shoulder.
I drove him home from his GP appointment and offered to help him get in to the swing (see what I did there?) of this exercise to get his arm and shoulder mobile again.
I went in to the other room for something while he started his exercise and when I came back into the room the dosy pillock was doing his exercise but with the previously unbroken limb! His reason? He thought the GP couldn't have meant his newly repaired arm because it was stiff from being in plaster for 8 or so weeks!

I'm sure it's been said before but you do have a large amount of issues in your life don't you Mr Fanylion and even where there isn't really an issue, you do your level best to create one don't you?

Hmmm, maybe not what I'm looking for after all which is a shame. Thanks anyway. I think you may have one or two other things I'm in the market for though. I'm looking forward to your classifieds ad.

Hilly and rocky. Not being trite but that's what the Dark Peak is with some peat type bogs thrown in if it rains a bit before the day.
I'd say that anybody who rides a few times per week could make their way around 23 mile Peak route. Even if you went for the bigger ride and bailed, it's easy enough to find your way back to Edale although there may be a hill of fair distinction in between you and the car park.
I'm reading between the lines and I reckon the intermediate route could be out of Edale to Jacobs Ladder. Then South Head to Roych Clough, round to Mam Nick and then across to Dirtlow Rake and Pindale then Roman Road to Hope Cross with Jaggers Clough back to Edale.
If that's the case, then my money is on the hard route doing the same with a descent from Hope Cross to the A57, across the road and over to Lockerbrook, Fairholmes and up to Whinstone Lee Tor. Then across Yorkshire Bridge and back to Hope Cross and then down to Edale via Jaggers.
I'm not sure on the mileage though, I suspect it would be more than they say it is so maybe I'm typing out of my arse?

You also have my attention. I'm in need of some decent lightweight XC wheels. Anymore info would be much appreciated, thanks.

£30! Cripes! Maybe it's because they're local to me and fully available all year round that makes it seem very expensive to me but in a word, no, I won't be participating.
I am aware of my own double standards though having paid a similar amount to do the SDW Randonee to BHF.
Maybe that's it though. Those who don't know the routes will pay it?

"Er, try going to a bike shop. They're these amazing places that sell things for cyclists.

    FFS."

So we're not allowed any wanted ads of anything otherwise available at a bike shop then?
Get over yourself and leave the lad alone.

I prefered your previous answer to be honest James 🙂
    Thanks again (all).

I'm speed reading at work. I assumed they'd put an Advanced Stop Lane in at the hut or something?
Cheers IA. I'll get the map out tonight.

Actually, is that right James? 863 feet from the road into the park (for arguements sake the pay hut) to the cage? Gosh (or similar expletives)!

A6 is higher than the drive road but thanks anyway 🙂
I'll do the google earth/map thing later (or take Crazy Legs' – thanks James) word for it 🙂
I need to know what I'm doing when I'm doing my hill reps.
Thanks again, I love you all.

Whoops, I was speed reading. Elbows and knees out for the top part as a descent.
Top tip for the climb….keep pedalling 🙂

Hurts more if you come off though James. The elbow or knee becomes the first point of high speed contact

Knees and elbows out and think *float*, James. It's nigh on impossible to tense up with your knees as far out as you can.

I worked for 6 years in the DWP (Job Centre Plus and The Pension Service). They said they were looking into it about 4 years ago. I didn't hear anything back from them despite a few follow ups. Local HR was moved to Newcastle (along with everything else it would seem) which made things much harder. Typical DWP practice.

That looks suspiciously like a location very close to The Ponderosa, peatsteve
I miss the old route through the forest and out the other side.

Not my choice of action Jimbo and at no point have I indicated I'd condone such action nor am I aware that violence has been used or even threatened. I was however made aware that Ben's dad was once a bit handy and old habits die hard apparently.
I hope that's alriiiiiiiight for you?

    **Update**

A telephone call from the car drivers partner has been received. He no longer wishes to pursue a claim.
I'm not quite sure what's gone on but my neighbour had a very wry grin on his face when I spoke to him this afternoon.
    Thanks again everyone.
Ben's just gone past on his bike looking quite happy so no lasting damage there either.

Oi! I've not been a scrote for at least 20 years, I've never swung a leg of anything remotely bionic and and it's been months since I've been in Lower Broughton.
As for my whereabouts. I'm at home now but I'll be in Macc Forest, Goyt Valley, Perryfoot, Hope and Hayfield during the course of today if you need me?

I did the Chadkirk, Lyme Park and quarry switchbacks ride this morning and it was great fun. I enjoyed it that much, I'm going out again to do a shortened version of the route this evening.

When the magazine first started up there was a Singletrack ride from the then offices. 52 people turned up I seem to remember. It was a grand day out.

STW the only place you get judged for not looking like Pook's idea of a person looking like they should be allowed to ride a Santa Cruz

"Pook 9/10 times your hunch will be right .. just ignore some of the idiots!" -Oh, the irony. Classic.

I'd be interested to know at what point you'd decree that somebody looks right enough to ride a Santa Cruz bicycle.

I have so much information in my head Jane, not one bit of it usefull though.
Ha! My BaweWull pudding will be coming home in my jersey pocket (yuk). I couldn't possibly use a rucksack on a road bike.
They're both cool now thanks. Emsie is thinking about a career in the Police force now. Her uncles will be mortified.
I bet you're not eccentric cinnamon girl. I reckon you're 'interesting'. I'd much rather spend some time with a person a little or more leftfield.

I'd agree entirely. I also enjoy the smaller events. They have a better atmosphere as well.
I suspect somebody will be along in a minute with a continuation of the endless and frankly tedious promotion thing again.

Saturday Cut Gate, Hope and home
Sunday road ride taking in Stockport to Sheffield and back via Bakwell. Is it BakeWELL or BakeWULL in pronounciation? I wouldn't want to offend when I'm ordering my pudding.

Thanks fot the tip Hora but if I've got a book in my hand I might as well take the map. Also, we need to synchronise watches and make sure we don't pass each other for the sake of us both and any potential witnesses.

Thanks Peachos but I'll be riding over (again) and I seem to get on with Snake Pass a heap more than I do Woodhead.

James. That would have been ace. I'm not going to be able to head off until 11:00am'ish though. I'm planing to be out for the day though, maybe do an out and back and then over to Hope and up to the mast. Something like that?

Porterclough. Thanks for the concern but I'm happy to report I've yet to lose my sense of direction in the Peak District although there's always a first time.

That's more like it Rofl. Up and at them (I may be gone for sometime 🙂 )

Thanks also to the two other guys who have responded. I'll have a read at lunch time.
