Watched it on TV. Horrendous day.
“There but for the Grace of God…” RIP. ( MCFC).barcaFree MemberI’ve just had a work with Nicky for you J. She says it’s all over, might as well give up now. I’ll come and get the Santa Cruz for her, she’ll take care of it 🙂
What she really said is, it’s hot because of infection, itching is good (although you won’t think so), take piriton as advised and they should be all crusty within a week. Don’t scratch them was also mentioned and try not to squeeze them when they get yellow heads. Squeezers are mingers.
barcaFree MemberIf these are the normally £40 inline double bolt clamp seatposts (I have two of these on my bikes) they are full carbon, not carbon wrap. I have one on an Orange 5 and one a Kona Kula hardtail and they are SUPERB! 410mm long, and don’t give me a minutes trouble. Absolute bargain if they’re now selling them at £15! I know Decathlon sell a single bolt layback carbon post for £22 which is carbon wrap but the inline Haflords are ace. The one on my Orange 5 is over three years old and that bike is ridden in the Peak District at least once a week. If they did them in various diameters rather than just 27.2mm, I’d have them on all of my bikes.
barcaFree MemberSimon, that was an ‘in joke’ that you’re obviously not ‘in’ on. Sorry.
barcaFree MemberIt is Oldgit, isn’t it? In proper girly white and blue with the odd hint of red in places.
barcaFree MemberI am. Cube Ltd Race. I’ve just withdrawn the £935:00 required for it’s purchase from the bank and I shall be putting it back when my Cycle Scheme voucher arrives and the shop refunds me.
barcaFree Member“No. If it’s not in the Peak District National Park as of today…..”
Indeed Mam Tor translates to Mother MountainbarcaFree MemberThe Peak District?
No. If it’s not in the Peak District National Park as of today, it’s not in the Peak/Peaks/Peak District/Peak District National Park. Hence, although my mate wants to move to Buxton and “Live in the Peak District”, if he does, he won’t because it isn’t.
You do know don’t you The Pook, The Racing Ralph will be doing The frothing at the mouth thing by now 🙂barcaFree MemberThere might not be a Stannage but is there a The Jaggers Cluff, The Jacobs Larder, The Pyndale, The Dirtlow Raik or The Roych Cluff?
It’s The Peak District National Park. That solves the continous Peak/Peaks argument.barcaFree MemberSurely, please God surely the angst filled rants about the validity of cycle commutes as ‘proper rides’ are very definitely tongue in cheek, aren’t they?
Even this toxic filled website can’t have sunk that low 🙂barcaFree MemberUp and down Charity Lane at Macclesfield Forest on Saturday afternoon setting the fork up on my brand new getting it tomorrow from the shop I’m so very excited bike and then Peak District (My house, Hayfield, Castleton, Edale, Hope and back) on Sunday.
“Woo” and very much indeed “Hoo” 🙂barcaFree MemberWhat are you getting Mike?
My voucher isn’t big enough for rear suspension as well PapabarcaFree MemberOh how very rude of me, I forgot to post a picture of it. Please accept my apologies and allow me to do it now for your visual pleasure:
I’ll have to take that sofa like saddle off though. I can’t rest myself on that fat thing!barcaFree MemberHa! I’ve just got an email from the bike shop! I can pick it up on Saturday with cash and go back at a later date with the voucher. It’s like being 6 years old on Christmas Eve 🙂
barcaFree MemberLocal council Mike. The scheme was open from Feb 13th to March 12th. Then they waited a week for everybody’s requests to be collated, then they sent the forms out and waited until they got them all back and posted them off to Cycle Scheme at some point this week.
barcaFree MemberI’d rather ask on here and get your ever so welcome replies Simon. I’m hoping (if I dare) for some quotes in italics?
OR it could be that I don’t want to pressure them into explaining their reluctance because that may make them (and me) a little uncomfortable?
I hadn’t thought about the tax or money laundering implications. Interesting replies though (apart from yours Simon, obviously). Thanks.barcaFree MemberWe were going to ride across The Porter Clough yesterday but decided to ride The Stanage Edge and then The Yorkshire Bridge and then The Hope Cross and then The Jaggers Clough.
barcaFree MemberMorning. Thanks for the kind words. It was a great day out. Cool air, sunny but not warm, perfect riding weather and the Peak looked lovely. Very tired now though. I’ve just driven in to work and got a standing ovation! I think they’ve mistook me for somebody nice :-).
I think I’d happily do a road ride over to Sheff and come back on road a different way and a big Peak ride off road is always going to get the juices flowing but what we did yesterday was a bit of a bugger. I’m sure others would do it every weekend no problem but it was a bit of a bugger for us. I highly recommend doing something a bit bonkers now and again though. Getting out of the shower and into bed at the end of it all is pure bliss 🙂barcaFree MemberWe did it. under 4 hours there, 7 back. Used roads out of Sheff to Peaks. Took it easy for the most part. Used mountain bikes. Stockport Express took photo’s and a few notes the night before, spoke to Imagine FM a couple of times during the day and slept like a baby last night. Cash raised is currently £1246.58 (how do we get the odd pence?).
Going back to bed.barcaFree MemberAll the tracks around Mellor Cross & Roman Lakes are rideable in both directions when you’ve done them a few times XB. I think the only one that would be a “maybe…on a good day” would be the climb out of Rowarth toward the farm with the bonkers dogs going toward New Mills. I’ve only ever ridden down it though.
Actually, the loose stone climb that goes past the cottages up in to the woods and comes out below the Cross would be beyond me as a climb for definite so not all rideable up and down at all. I’ll shut up now 😳barcaFree MemberOooh, forgot another one. Bwesty Coed to the Marin Trail on the road, round the Marin Trail, back through Bwesty to Penmachno, did Penmachno (not the second loop though) and back to Bwetsy. Glad I’ve done it but I don’t think I’d do it again and I hate to admit it, but it looks like Terrahawk of these parts might have done it a minute or two quicker than me. Gutted :-(.
Terra and Richpips (Crazylegs as well, I think) have done some monster big single day rides if I recall correctly.barcaFree Member“…and hence do not have hunters”. They were shooting the deer in Lyme Park last week which is very close to where I suspect Bunnyhop had her poor experience of Stockport kind today.
Never mind J, it gives you chance to practice your trackstands.
I’m on my way round, somebody mentioned chocolate?barcaFree Member65 mile Peak District ride
SDW in a Day
Cheshire Ring which is is 100 and a bit miles of canal towpath. Harder work than you’d think it should be.
Edinburgh centre to Glentress, once round the red route and then back to Edinburgh centre. Hard on the legs but even harder on the nerves. I was on a road I shouldn’t have been apparently.
The Peak ride was the toughest.
On Wednesday we’re doing Manchester city centre to Sheffield city centre on road and then riding back to the start off road. I’m expecting that to be a bugger. Jacobs Ladder will be avoided if I get my way.barcaFree MemberI’ve just walked over to my mate Sahid (aka “Asian Invasion”) across the corridor from me and told him the joke. He laughed at it. In fact he laughed at it a lot. I’m not expecting to be hauled up in front of the uber politically correct HR any minute soon.
barcaFree MemberThe North Face Hammerhead? I hated mine for biking and no way would I have even tried it for running. It’s pretty heavy and far too much going on in it. A little like the Lezyne packs, far too fussy for me.
I’m currently liking my Osprey Talon 5.5 which is a good compromise of the two. It’s let down on the running side in that the only way to carry water is in a regular bladder vertically placed but then the much better for running Inov-8 range are awful for cycling. I borrowed one for the day and it was like a soft drainpipe strapped to my back, it was rolling about all over the place. Another reason I sold my Hammerhead on here is that it rounded off and did the rolling thing when fully packed.
My recommendation for a pack that will do both pretty well but I’ve yet to find something that will do both very well is the Osprey Talon 5.5. It could do with being a little smaller though and weighs a smidgen over 1lb without a bladder fitted.barcaFree MemberThanks for the tip OMITN. Looks like I’m out then. Apologies for the interruption.
barcaFree MemberI’d like to join in if I’m welcome. Would you know before hand if it’s going to be a full ride or a ride for a bit and spend more time in the pub(s) kind of evening or is it decided on the spot? I don’t really do pubs you see.
barcaFree Member4 days booked for the Sarn Helen, 2 days booked to do some riding on the isle of Man including end to end and two days booked for some riding down south including the SDW. I have 5 days over Easter free but it depends if my new bike arrives in time. If it does, Scotlands for me (7 Stanes), if not…..dunno. Still be in the UK though. I’m on all ports alert. I’ll be crucified if I try to leave the country.
barcaFree MemberArse! The shops in Oldham. No nearer supplier of The Bike of Much Fastnest. I signed my form and dropped it in at HR yesterday. I think it’s safe to say I won’t be chucking a leg over it before Easter then.
barcaFree MemberMy (then) brand new Sub 5 form North West Mountain Bikes in Stockport was delivered to them with a rear shock with lockout that didn’t even hold air, forget the lockout. They told me about the problem when I went to pick it up, put a spare shock (without lockout) on and let me use that until Orange sent a replacement. How would you feel if the shop fitted a different fork (even if it’s not as good as the one you should have) until they can replace it with a brand new fork? mIght be worth discussing with the shop? Gets you out on your bike, the shop are not quite so pressured to get your fork working and they can send the fork back to the manufacturer and order a completely new one?
barcaFree MemberYup! I have to write out a letter (they even have templates for the shy of typing) stating that I believe I have a case under the said Act, give them 14 days to respond and let Consumer Direct know the outcome one way or the other.
barcaFree MemberExtended warranty was free. Just needed to be registered within 28 days of purchase. Apparently, I registered it at 30 days after date of purchase. I bought it on the 1st of December as it was for Christmas and we didn’t get round to registering it until we got home (we’d been away for Christmas). We did it online and got an online reference but apparently, we should have received a certificate through the post,Never did and so we’re not covered.
However, i did some research re: Sale of Goods Act, chucked it in to the mix like a secret weapon……..well, that didn’t work. the store manager couldn’t have been any less impressed.
Double However! GIZZARDMAN is todays’ Singletrackworld Forum Star of the Day! I’ve just come off the phone from the very nice, very Irish accented Michael from the North West branch of http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/ who has given me a case reference number and the kind assurance that we have a very clear case of having the camera repaired, replaced or reimbursed under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 etc. as it is to be clearly and ‘reasonably’ expected that the camera costing £300 and not showing any signs of physical damage or misuse (it hasn’t, it’s treated with more care than our offspring) should be in full working order within 14 months of its date or purchase.
Thanks all and especially Gizzardman – Singletrackworld Forum Star of the Day!barcaFree MemberThanks for the comments. I’ve just swiped some E45 cream off of the desk of the Serial Allergic To Life Girl. She won’t notice, she’s a nutter. She once asked me to not walk past her desk so quickly as it was stirring up dust and making her feel ill. Yes, I pointed out the predictable “dust around your desk because of the lack of activity” :-). Bloody Nora Diadora it stung a bit on application.
I’ve done some Googling and it would seem some long distance loons have suffered as I am suffering and indeed, Gaffa tape was applied with some success.
“What Gaffa tape for posterior chaffing” then?barcaFree Member“Refund will be calculated and you’ll receive a new bill showing the credit. Depending on when the refund is processed and when the 2009/10 bill is drafted (we did ours last week, issuing them this week) they will deduct 2009/10 from the refund which means you’ll have nothing to pay until April 2010.”
Told you :-). Depends how much you have in credit and how much your new bill is etc. but you’ll know that by now. Congrats. on saving a few quid as well.
barcaFree Member“7? 5? 3?, Hmmmmmmm, i know something you don’t know….la la la la”
Wales ends to end has just been done in 22 hours. WHOOPS 🙂
