I have yet to take my own photo of it but here’s the catalogue image: . It looks even better in real life and double better with me on it :-). It now has a carbon seatpost, Deda lightweight stem and if the postie plays fair today some carbon risers.
Cost me £935:00 but it’s gone to nearly £1100 due to exchange rates now apparently. It will actually cost me £520 when it’s paid for next year.
Jenn Hopkins reviews it in this months’ WMB and says it’s fast and lively 9/10. I concur. It is :-). Oooh, I could gush about it all day.

edit: You can add to the £1000 limit at Surosa if you want to. An ace bike shop as well.

A VERY reluctant dad here (although I absolutley adore her if that’s not a complete contradiction. I guess I just didn’t want to ever be a parent) and the lack of spare time has taken our marriage to the very edge and who knows if it is going to topple beyond the point of no return.
Youngster is 12 next month and it was easier when she was younger as I could nip out at various times of the day and the biggest adaptation was I would ride to where ever we were going out for the day which included jaunts such as Stockport to Alton Towers and then back again at the end of the day. That sort of thing. No matter what we were up to at the weekends, I’d ride to the location, meet up with the family and then ride home again at the end of the day.
Now she’s older but not old enough to be completely independant, I have to drive her to places she wants to go with friends and hang around in the background or stay at home with the car in case something goes wrong and I have to rush in the car to collect her.
Difficult times round our house at the moment with lots of blame and guilt going on. It was easier when she was younger.

“so that they can see that I don’t in fact have any problem using correct language and grammar. ” You ARE joking, aren’t you?
It doesn’t offend me at all, I completely gloss over the whole text when I see “Rudeboy” as the author rather than try to translate it all only then to find it was invariably bollocks anyway.
In fact, boredom and tedium have got the better of me again.
    Bye

But you just said “You would perhaps do well to read a little more of what I actually write” and then you said “Then don’t read it.” THEN you top it off with “Simple, really. Bit like some of you lot…”

    I love irony.

The point clearly being made is that the email communication received and the pain experienced in trying to turn it in to understandable english very closely resembles the god awful made up language that you insist on using on here and all the discomfort that goes with it.

Reading more of the rubbish you write and the ridiculous way you write it is really not worth the bother.

“it would have had to have all its wheels pass the white stop line completely,”

I don’t think that’s correct Dr. as the vehicle in front of me the other week that was going to be an amber gambler decided against it at the the last minute, stopped with only the front wheels over the white line but the traffic camera took his picture.

I’m 5’9″ and ride a 55cm Bianchi with a 110mm stem, Specialized 54cm with an 80mm stem, a Lemond 53cm with 115mm stem and a Willer 54cm with a 100mm stem. Even with my own experience of the various manufacturers top tube lengths, I’d put this months salary on the 54cm Giant being too long for him.

As mentioned above, as a general rule of thumb, if you’re 5’7″ and it’s a 54cm, it’s highly likely to be too big. Chuck the shorter stem on, see if it feels better.

Ignoring it would be the very best advice if it hadn’t been for this immortal line “However, last night (after paying £200 via paypal)”
I’d be on the phone to Paypal and Ebay right now. Sod email.

I only read as far as “The problem with CF failing is that it does so without any warning (no visible cracks etc) and does so in an instant” and lost the will to carry on.
In your opinion (god forbid experience), does it shatter like glass? Do you own have or have you ever owned a carbon fibre bicycle component, less actually seen something carbon fibre break?
I have carbon fibre on my mountain bikes and two carbon fibre frame/forks/steerer road bikes. If I could afford one or somebody reading this has lost confidence in their 18″ carbon Scott Spark, I’d have it and I ride almost exclusively in the Peak District
I love these threads about carbon fibre components and bikes.

I’ve just bought one of these for £935 including pedals and I don’t think I’ve chucked a leg over any of my other bkes since.

I know literally hundreds of stories of benefit fraud but as I know about them, they can’t by definition be good tips. I used to work in the detection of benefit fraud.

The Em&M’s – they do indeed rock (in my garage three evenings per week and Sunday afternoons unless one of them has been grounded).

Sorry, just giving it a nudge on the off chance. I’m pretty much resigned to having lost them but I thought it would be worth one more go.

I could ave collected that easily from the velodrome bigndaft but I;m not keen on bodging it. Rollers aren’t much good for me as I’m looking for something I can use to get out of the saddle and mash on. Thanks anyway,

I ride in almost every day but I don’t really get the need to force yourself to do it. If you want to do it, you’ll do it and if you don’t want to do it, don’t.
I hate gymnastics so I don’t do it. I like kayaking and cycling so I do those. I don’t like BMX (or should say I’m rubbish at it) so I don’t do that. No need to beat yourself up about it. If you wake up one day and you want to ride in, do it and if you don’t, don’t. Easy innit? 🙂

One dealer that sells Cube bikes and has not round wheels in it’s name told me I would have to pay a mark up of £90 to cover admin and delivery for my bike which was going to cost £930. They wanted the £90 as an up front cash deposit. I found a more local Cube dealer where i could collect in person and they didn’t charge me any admin fee. Bought the bike for the voucher price of £935. Looks like some shops do indeed recoup the 10% they pay to cyclescheme from the customer.

Ye gods! They will make you sign a form, just a simple form but…….you have to do overtime every night and most weekends without pay! You can hand your notice in but you can’t leave until the cyclescheme agreement you signed runs out….and it never runs out. It goes on for that long, your state pension will be used up to make the payments. It’s all a big fat con! In fact, your employer only employed you so they could entice you in with the cyclescheme so they could then rip you off for the rest of your working life! Run! Run away now! Keep that tin foil hat on your head as well..

    or…

It could be that you genuinely get a bike at about 45% less than retail, your employer may sell it to you for one final instalment at the end of the 12 months or they may decide to keep it as a souvenir. You could always ask to make sure before you get one. If your salary goes up during the scheme, you’ll take home more money. It’s a fixed price purchase, not a percentage of your salary. it’s an agreed deduction not an attachment of earnings to the Treasury.

I’ve just bought a bike with the scheme and I’ve never owned a tin hat in my life 🙂

Thanks for the replies. I think I’ll get over to Coed-y-Brenin then. Certainly nobody has suggested it’s not worth the extra few miles driving and it’ll mean I don’t have to beast myself trying to beat my previous time for a combined Penmachno and Marin ride.
    Thanks again.

There are other bridleways in and around the forest as well to make it a more worthwhile trip than sticking to the new graded trails.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
I ride in the Peak District on and off road.
I normally park the car in Bwesty and ride up to the Marin and then back down through the town and up to Penmachno. I’ve not done it that way since the 2nd loop opened although I have ridden Marin and then connected it off road with Penmachno. If I do Marin/pen, I’ll do the road link as I have a PB to beat.
Just wondered if the extra miles in the car to C-y-B over Marin and Pen. was worth it though?

No problems at all here mate, sorry. Letters or parcels. In fact, Nicky has a patient in Tideswell (SK17) and she posts medical implements and stuff to him a couple of times a week via standard parcel post and there’s been no problems reported.

I’ve just looked at your description Steve and there are three different bridleways up to the road behind Mam Tor from Edale (two of which are via Hollins Cross) but the broken road climbs out of Castleton which is in the Hope Valley not the Vale of Edale. I think you’ve maybe got your route confused?

It’s also all a matter of opinion of course but I don’t find the broken road much fun descending and not a particular challenge climbing either. I dare say the the big air guys enjoy jumping off the ledges but I prefer to keep my wheels on the ground.

That’s not a massive ride really twang. A nice day out and good in either direction. Another good day out can be had by coming out of Hope through Hayfield which would incorporate Jacobs Ladder and Roych Clough but keep coming as far as Mellor or even Marple.

    barca

Castleton isn’t the best place to start a ride from in my opinion and you’re probably aware you can’t ride up to Mam Tor, you have to skirt round the side of it.
I’d set off from Mam Nick, round to Hollins Cross, Edale, Jaggers Clough, Hope Cross, left hand trail (can’t remember what it’s called) and down to Snake Pass. Across the road to Hagg Farm, Lockerbrook and then round to Fairholmes. Over the other side of the water and up to Whinstone Lee Tor. Down again to Snake Pass, over Yorkshire Bridge ad back up to Hope Cross. Roma Rd to Hope, Brough, Bradwell, through cement works singletrack, climb Pindale, Dirt Low Rake Rushup Edge and back to Mam Nick.

Ah, is there “other” routes there that he can reasonably expect to survive? Its the brother in law. You can imagine the hell that would be my life if he gets hurt. He’s a good laugh but he’s a bit ‘precious’. Nobody on the other hand gives a stuff if I leave half my hide on the sharpest rock.

    barca

Oh dear 🙁 . Is it not the right place for him to be then? I’m getting a bit bored of the Peak District again and again. Any other trail centres we can get to from Manchester on the train. I know he’d enjoy Marin trail but it’s 3 train changes and even more hours to get there.

Thanks for that Podge. Is it the nearest station? Also, is the riding at the quarry OK for a relatively new rider?
He’s done a couple of Peak rides and coped OK if not prolifically. He gets a bit fazed on anything narrow, He kind of hits things full on and then bounces around a bit. That might have a lot to do with his pogo stick Tora fork though. I’d rather not see him go over a narrow ledge to his death if it can be avoided.

A late afternoon road/cx ride to Buxton and back via Goyt Valley and Hayfield for me on Saturday.
Last minute edit, route to be extended to include Macc Forest as well.

You should be killed for even suggesting it and then brought back to life and killed again for calling road cycling “darkside”. That’s Star Wars stuff.
