I had two which last approx 3 peaks rides funnily enough. Running a Hope BB after shelling out for 4 of them before i gave up.

Someone will be along now and say they’ve done 2 million under water miles with zero issues…

+1 for a hardware store or find an engineering work shop. Even a toolmaker may help.

Mixed experiences too, snapped pro 2 axle near the beast and popped in with my wheel covered in shit/mud to buy or at least order the spare parts instead it was rebuilt entirely FOC : )

Any other time i’ve been in they’ve been a bit grumpy to say the least…

    I’ve made about 8000 so far 🙁
Trick is sticking it under the grill for a while – anything from 1 – 3 hrs & keep the middle runny

Very true, i usually do all the bw stuff from the sportsman to rush up edge as a night ride – rarely bother with Jacobs but now as they’ve fixed the climb I’ll be riding it a bit more often : )

Managed to clean most of the jacobs climb, which almost killed me. The repair jobs has been a long time coming, i can’t believe some people are whinging about how it’s ruined a good dh. Wtf in their right mind goes up jacobs ladder and descends the farm track to hayield :-0

Tried it once. It took me 4

I did start from New Mills, but I’m sure that shouldn’t add an hour

: ) did it in 2 hrs 11 mins on sat – I’ve lost just over a stone recently & its made the world of difference to me riding.

Bit annoyed we finished so early as it meant we were back at the sportsman for 11ish for a pint whilst everyone else was still having breakfasts.

The typical Jacobs loop can easily be done under 3hrs for average rider

Got my mountain bike out of garage for my plans to the thwarted by the sudden monsoon occurring at my doorstep, I felt the type of rage only otherwise induced by 650B marketing male bovine excrement. I composed myself and dealt with the situation by considering how I could still achieve my goal of obtaining that vital KOM and retired back inside to spend an hour on the turbo visualising my next opportunity to shred the trail so hard on my steed that I transport myself to the magical world of Gnarnia.

Ok, I feel I am taking this less seriously than I should….

: ) I’d put on two pairs of socks, me kagool and mtfu….

The KOM was at cannock so doesn’t count as real riding.

Me too : ) company i’ve been trying to get into for years now so bricking it a little!

    45 mins long too!!

Been asked to answer this – please describe an occasion where your plans were unexpectedly changed at the last minute and please record how you felt and dealt with the situation…

You should do a Peaks Pootle Trail Maintenance day.

Shimano am45’s i’d go for – look a bit special but dry a bit quicker than me 5:10’s, cheaper and they seemed to holding up longer than the 5:10’s. Until i left them in a car park..

Have you popped the wheel out and pumped the lever until the pistons sit slightly proud of where they once were?

If it is stuffed i would highly recommend converting them into Floats – best thing I’ve done in a long time. Night/day difference.

I don’t go off road in the Peak often, but I struggle to get upset about this.

Not every track in the Peak is being sanitised all at once

They are not designed to be just mountain bike trails, they are there for a variety of users and their needs/wants may be different to ours.

If we get too bolshy about it they may just decide that we are as bad as the motorised off roaders and ban us.

If we avoid the bits we don’t like for a few months, Mother Nature will soon start to get it back how we like it.

What he said, now please stfu and leave it to the proper people…

Pjbarton. It may help to learn some of the locations first & the first part of the climb to Jacobs Ladder has needed work for a long time now, same with the climb back up to south head from Royce clough.

Usually do this as part of a night ride and it’s always shut, there’s a few feed buckets dotted the beast too.

It’s threads like this which make STW…

Funny you should say that . I worked for over 30 years as a Chef , 15 of those as a relief chef where you get fairly well paid but people only call you up when they are in a fairly sticky situation . I have worked over 50 days without a day off , travelled all day , arrived at a restaurant with 4 functions booked over the next 2 days , virtually nothing prepared and pretty much worked 48 hrs straight but in a strange way I always liked the job and now I am out of it I quite miss it . I have also worket for a year , 1 day per week lecturing at college and I found that incredibly difficult . You had very little real way to get kids interested and most were only doing catering because they were too unqualified to do anything else . I stuck it for a year because the pay was good and I needed the money but couldn’t wait to get out . Possibly I just wasn’t very good at it .

Never a chef, just a sous chef and i do miss the banter and carnage a lot. That weird moment of silence just before you get battered. I do not miss the 6 am to 12-1am shifts 6 days a week thou! Made working with ABA in a school setting seem easy..
