Jim White – The Wrong Kind Of Love & 10 Miles To Go On A 9 Mile Road

Cheers 2tyred. Yep I’m with you re Mrs Tyred….. Mrs Bangin On is much the same.

Long term we’re planning a completely new stacked/mingled blue/green route which will be hugely flowey!

But for this year with hardly any budget to play with I’m thinking that we could rebuild the ‘most’ open and flowey section but make it more so. It’s peice of trail is shared with the blue but to be honest it’s too narrow for blue spec; so the plan is to sort out the width and the flow and make it really swoopyand great fun.

It’s all riding very well, especially if it’s frosty.

‘Mini Me’ the descent from Farthingbank down to the tarmac road crossing has suffered from bad frost lift (as it’s quite clay based) and is pretty sloppy. Hopefully we’ll be rebuilding that section before easter so don’t worry about riding it.

I’ll be surveying it with a mind to building blue grade trail of a more ‘populist’ bermy swoopy “stanesy” style than your usual gnarly rootfest.

Any comments either way would be useful.

Sounds like you would enjoy the red route, it’s standard 7 Staines, ‘flowy’ singletrack and has quite alot of broad raised wooden trail.

Th FE have tacken out all of the off wee bits of shore that used to hang off the side of the trail.

it’s way to complicated a joint to ask for any of us on here to help; go get physio and do the excersices they tell you. By the sounds of things a good rest is probably called for but there’s so much to go wrong in there you really need a good proffesional assessment. I can recommend a good physio in Broxburn if your anywhere near central Scotland. Treat what a doctor might say with suspicion go get a good physio to look at it.

Mrs Bangin on off to bed with a tear in her eye at the sad demise of Vibes, some serious reminiscing been going on here this evening…

Still a good record shop here in Dumfries as well as HMV. I’m banned from it as I always come out having spent far too much on stuff I wasn’t looking for. I still buy and play vinyl in preference to CDs and have a huge suspicion of downloads.. I recon it’s and age thing right enough.. I do use spotify tho’ and have went out and bought stuff that I heard online.

Mine are a bit older (8 & 12 now) but are both planning trips to Belgium and Ireland this year after having to much fun at SSEC10. They spent the weekend playing with the other campsite kids and discarded robot costumes and soaking everything that moved with water cannon/pistol thingies. Get them s/started young!

32:18 sounds fine to me, having done it solos SS once before, it depends on what your used to, I’d be tempted to take a lower option for when you get tired/ it gets dark. Good luck to everyone heading up!!

8 weeks in and I’ll be 45 this year.

Yep; sleep tortur;e it’s tough (and I can sleep standing up) but I’m kinda hoping young master Bangin On will be dragging me up the hills til I’m well into my 60s….

Most of the retired guys I go pedalling with are ultra fit and totally competitive.

It might be harder than you think tho, it took us 3years and plenty heartbreak to get one all the way out and the missus is mid 30s.

    Good luck whatever way

on a budget Samsung N110 here and it’s fine for browsing and wee stuff. Quick to start and OK at browsing, battery life fin brilliant. Thinking of boosting the available ram, only downside is the teeny wee screen, but even that’s pretty clever.

won’t effect mpg at all. ever so slightly higher geared so will run at a lower revs per ‘actual’ speed .

I run ‘much ‘bigger wheel/tyre combo on my truck, and fuel consumption actually improved on actual mileage and hardly changed at all on the (now slightly lower) dashboard mileage.

Much, much better off road grip, clearance and handling, and much smoother on road too..

We’re 8weeks in and Bangin On jnr ‘still’ doesn’t have much of a routine..

Getting him to nap thru the day is virtually impossible unless in the sling (our dog loves it, he sees the sling and gets totally happy as he thinks he’s off out for a walk).. Junior just wants held and doesn’t go to sleep otherwise. Not just held but walked around and jiggled.

I would totally, totally recomend a ‘Karri-Me’ sling, you can just get on with your life and your high maintenance jnr can sleep and give you peace while you get on with your life

Mrs Bangin On has suffered with the breast feeding but is finally finding it easier and the latching on has finally sorted itself out; it’s just a tough thing to get thru I think..

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to bring them up from scratch, just do what stresses you out least and get on with it.

We used to call the back room the fridge (3 outside thick stone walls).

I ripped off all the old dry lining and dot and dabbed 50mm celotex all around it, got it replastered and used the discreteheat skirting radiators.

It’s now totally toasty and the warmest room in the house…. hurray!!!

Pete and Anne run the Lemon House, which is half way down the west side of Sardinia.

    look here http://www.peteranne.it/accommodation/the-lemon-house

Take some rock shoes if you have them and make sure Pete takes you deep water bouldering, it’s ace.

Collie will get plenty of entrtainment with a house full of kids and Ifor usaully copes with a half hour thru the week so long as he gets plenty more at the weekend.

The main thing with dogs is making sure they fit in the family pack in the right place. Buy a copy of Ceasers book and make a sensible set of rules for your own ‘pack’; I never feed the dog til all the humans have finished – he does’nt get to beg and get’s behind us when we arrive or leave anywhere. He’s a very happy well balanced, polite dog although lots of mates tell me I was harsh on the dog when he was a pup, now he hardly needs to be on the lead and he’s a totally chilled and friendly 2 year old dog.

This is more important than breed or anything else IMO. Maybe I’ve just been lucky with my dogs!

Collie for biddable, tough, family friendly dogs who’ll run with bikes.

Both Stan of old and Ifor are excellent trail dogs. Not so much hard work really a couple of rides a week will tire them out and let you away with a couple of shortish walks a day other wise.

Folks come and ask for Ifor’s ‘guiding’ skills out on the trails at Drumlanrig….

Can’t go wrong with a collie IMO!

I’ve drunk a few bottle of Rock over the past few years and it’s luverly, never over ice….. just tiny bit of water and it opens out beautifully.

Just bought some of the Aldi 12tyr old, supposedly Dalmore…. I have to say the tasting notes for Dalmore could be applied to this, whatever it is…. Just check tho as there are ‘Speyside’ Glen Marnoch and ‘Highland’ Glen Marnoch…Dalmore is a Highland whisky so it might be worth hunting out.

don’t knock Glenmorangie even the ‘ordinary’ 10 yr old has complexity but won’t scare off the beginners.
My preference is for Islay Malts; Ardbeg and Buachladdich are my favs buthave also enjoyed the others and an occasional Highland and Speyside. Aberlour good too but not a fan of Jura not alot too it.

Our recently installed condensing boiler uses a flexible pipe into the 32 mm outer pipe. If it freezes ( which it hasn’t) I can pull the flexi pipe out and run it into a bucket.

This might be a fix for those of you repeatedly hacking into your pipes.

My installation dude (who is a mate and whos kids I coach) said not to bother with lagging. If it’s cold enough it’ll still freeze and take alot longer to thaw, and even closed cell foam soaks in moisture and makes it useless.

It’s all good from Drumlanrig down to Kirro.

The broader stanes trails will have icey patches but are rideable, Drum is perfectly grippy with no ice and crunchy frosty snow.
