Cameras distributed thru the woods combined with helmet cams would be great but can you imagine the logistics of either running cables or collecting the cards. Wireless would be cool but kinda expensive, we have actually looked into it as an added value kinda thing; however given the enormous cost and a good guess at how much/little you’d want to pay for the results it’s not exactly gonna rake in the cash.

So I’ll likely get a Contour and a Go pro for hire/demo; and folks can choose what to use, what they like, offer them the card to buy or burn the footage to disc. We’ll obviously have to have some in stock too…

I reckon it could be popular with families and youth groups too.

    Cheers for all the comments..

It’s really not worth me stocking forks or mechs or any kind of groupsets in my wee shop as it just sits on the shelf and folks tut under their breath that its x% cheaper online.

Even peeps who’s old wrecks i’ve nursed along (at mates rates) while they save for some new stuff go pedalling by on flash kit (obviously) bought online.

It’d be enough to make a man all bitter and twisted, that’s for sure.

Given the chance I’ll reward loyalty to locals and regulars, I give a discount to club riders; but it’s just not worth watching the stuff go ‘out of season’ and see the prices tumble online. Fe**in spoils my day rightly!!!

We make slightly more than 10% profit on our turnover but that’s a turnover of b*gger all 🙂

As above! Hundreds of wheels built, all with lube on the nipples not freeze. Every one invited to bring them back for free service but hardly ever (never) needed.

If your going tomorrow ‘everything’ at the Castle will be closed; and you’ll probably have the trails totally to yourself.

The wee cafe in Thornhill at the cross roads is good and very reasonable tho; as is the bakers. Or the wee corner cafe in Penpont has the best pies in the world if it’s open.

Usually a ride at 10:00 on saturdays tho; open to all!

Just to chip in here; there are a couple of diversions at Drumlanrig too, although they only miss out one short section of singletrack (and add in a wee bit of s/t and about a Km of fire road.

Rode round it this morning in glorious sunshine then snow then glorious sunshine again, so it’d be wise to expect any weather.

As has been mentioned it does get ‘a bit’ slippy in the wet; you’ll need to actively ‘ride light’ over the roots and definately don’t hang back, speed is your friend, if you slow down to pick your way thru you’ll end up stalled or pedalling on the roots which will spit you out sideways. You can expect the wheels be going sideways quite often, just expect it and don’t get gripped, trust your tyres and don’t use the brakes unless you have to, especially thru the roots. Have fun!!!

It’s SO complicated I wouldn’t like to give any advice.

Go to see a good (get recomendations) sports injuries physio..

I got good help tyhru the NHS for a bad / frozen shoulder after aggrivating and old climbing injury a couple of years back. Trouble is it’s easy to make it worse if you do the wrong thing.

cheers all; i’ll have a look at web servering etc although it may well be more cost to upgrade all the bts required.

The PC’s too old to donate to Africa; apparently they want 5 yearsold or less :-0

You’ll struggle to get all that in the space you have I think.

Also, trails running straight down the hill will become a potential water erosion problem, and it’ll also be tricky to drain the transition into the jumps; you need to make sure you don’t trap water on the trail.

Mini Bangin On now 4 months and we use the Kari-me sling http://www.kari-me.com which is way beyond awesome.

We were given a system buggy which we just don’t use (he’s only been in it once to go ice skating); MBO hates lying on his back full stop.

It’s so easy with the sling; hands free all the way, he’s now big enough to go ‘face out’ some of the time which is great for shmoozing every one he meets and attention seeking with big smiles at all and sundry. Mostly tho he’s tummy to tummy so he can peek out but if he’s tired he’s asleep in seconds, and it’s dead cosy too. The positions go from new born to toddler pretty much. It’s brilliantly simple and the boss picked it up for £30 something online after trying loads at the NEC baby show.

I’ve just dug the old all terrain running buggy out of the shed today which will get a good scrub and some new bar tape up at the shop tomorrow. That’ll be good for pounding the streets but I’d never use a buggy in the town; what a hassle!

I run the SXC and other events at Drumlanrig.

At the end of a busy race weekend setting up the course, marshalling, taking down tape etc at the end of it all; the last thing I need is to be picking up gel wrappers off the trail or even out of the undergrowth (where some halfwits think it’s a good idea throw them).

It’s hard enough to get volunteers to marshall a days racing, let alone asking them to pick up some selfish t0sspots litter at the end of it.

    So if you’re racing or at an event don’t assume that there’s a bunch of happy litter pickers looking after your sh1t;

    JUST DON”T DROP IT!!!!!!!!!

THey done significant damage to the tree root network.

There’s a great way to p1ss off the forester for the woodland.

I’d be tempted to go and knock all that back into the holes before it’s found…seriously! Stuff like that would have the trails here shut down in no time at all.

    I stand corrected.

    +1 pump track nation.

However, all Lee’s stuff is flat, you’ll have to lengthen stuff out to cope with more speed on a descent.

I’d get a rough plan on paper then start building from the top down, you’ll get an idea if it’s looking right for the speed you’ll have and can lengthen or shorten the troughs and rollers as you go.

Take a notebook and pace out stuff you like to ride at other locations. but remember to adjust for the slope you have to play with.

Ha! and there’s me thinking this thread’ll be about all the well paid software engineers and marketing types that either don’t shop locally or come in and haggle over the price of a mech to go on their four grand bike to save their holiday….. Silly me 😉

I’m new this DE shaving lark, having only just spotted it via this good forum.

What do the numbers correlate to? Is it the weight or length or just a manufacturers model number??

I’m totally hacked off with the expense and crap shave I get from the multi blade stuff out there so will likely give DE a go sometime soon.

I love my wee trails at Drumlanrig for fun fun fun; but then maybe I’m biased, or maybe i just build them for the way I like to ride, I don’t really care. Kirrochtree’s pretty good too, from the wall to the finish is toptastic.

mostly Drumlanrig, but occasionally some stanes (was at Dalbeattie this evenin) and there’s plenty local off piste up in the Lowthers and along the coast.

It’s nice to get to the lakes or wales or up the highlands every now and again but living near Dumfries is pretty darn fine for trails and good folks to got out pedalling with.

I’m no where near you, but I spoke to one of the chippy’s working on the windows at the old hospital where I worked at the time. the guy did a really good job of replacing and partially replacing some rotten sash frames.

I’d try to find someone who does a lot of that kind of thing as they’ll be tooled up for the job and quick. A regular joiner might do a good job but too but if you do a lot of something you’ll be more likely to breeze it,

The lap for the Drumlanrig round is sorted and looks top. Not too many roots for those of you more used to the Stanes, but sweet skinny singetrack non the less.
