As somebody else mentioned, going to the interview might still be a good idea purely for the experience.

Enterprise rent a car by any chance?

I’ve had friends work for them straight out of uni, they give you all the bs about being “a manager” and getting “promotions”, but none of it means anything, they are just after smart people who they can flog to death.

If he has other options, I would avoid – and £17.5k isn’t a great starting salary for a grad (depending on degree subject of course)

You may be better off taking their finance deals (they earn money on selling you finance), and then cancelling the finance in the cooling off period, and paying it off with your cash. That is likely to get you the lowest screen price.

Just don’t tell them that you are going to do it!

Yes you are right, mine doesn’t have hammer action. Nonetheless it is a nicely weighted tool for most use, and for heavier stuff I get the mains powered drill out.

It is useful to get the twin pack as the second battery can be useful, although the batteries do charge very quickly anyhow

I have the same pair, although mine come in a metal case; available on Amazon for £135. They are both fantastic for light drilling and screwdriving duties, and the impact driver is superb – it was happily driving in 6″ screws into dense wood when I recently made my garage workbench. I wouldn’t be without them now.

I received compensation for a flight to the US with Virgin that I took 4 years ago recently. I wrote to them about a year after the flight and they wrote back and said it wasn’t their fault as it was a technical fault with the plane, so I left it at that. It was recently ruled that this isn’t a valid excuse, so I downloaded and filled in a form off their website, and a few weeks later I received a cheque for 600 euros, after no argument.

There is a good guide on moneysaving expert.

Keep an eye on the big dug ebay store, particularly the clearance section. I picked up a 2m x 2.4m x 0.6m 4 bay frame without chipboard for £50 recently; it was the 600kg rated stuff. I then got chipboard from the local diy store, cut to size for £30. If you don’t need it right now, it is worth keeping your eyes on the ebay store for a while.

Ah well suspicions confirmed then. Maybe I’ll have to wait a few years and see if my circumstances change, one thing that is for sure is that I won’t be getting a cat!

    Cheers for the replies.

Ok, I understand that 8-6 4 days a week is too much, if I didn’t think that, I wouldn’t be asking how it works for other people on here.

What I’m trying to understand is at what point does it become ok? Dog walker? Ok for 0/1/2/3 days a week but not 4? I’ll not get a dog and leave it 4 days a week, but if I can manage things so it is fair for the dog, then maybe I’ll give it further thought. The question is, at what point does it become fair on the dog?

Ok – opinions split here clearly, but I’m more prone to err on the side of caution.

How would those saying no view it if somebody came in to see the dog once a day, and the dog was walked in the morning before I left for work?

Oh and any dog would be a rescue dog.

As I say, I’m just trying to figure out how other people manage it, I pretty much knew that leaving a dog for long periods is not desirable.

We always had them whilst growing up, but a household with children in is obviously a busier household than ours right now where the two of us work in the rat race.

I have nearby family but don’t want to burden them with it, although maybe they would if it was a temporary thing whilst the dog settled down.

I had thought about dog walkers but that could soon get expensive.

If we were to get a dog, it would be on the proviso that the dog would be happy, so if I can’t make it work, I will have to go without. I see people about with dogs though and it makes me wonder how they make it work.

I’d bet if you put it on at 125k you’d probably sell it very quickly. The closer you get to 150k, the longer it may take to sell. It all depends how much you want to be in a position to offer and proceed on the other house that you want to buy: drop your price, get a quick sale, and be able to proceed with the other house, or keep the price high and run the risk of missing out on the other house.

Just going through this myself. Part of me wants to run a banger for the cost, part of me wants to have a modern car for piece of mind.

I just checked how much a rental car would cost in the event of a banger breaking down, you can get a basic car hire for £90 a week. Add in an autoaid assistance package for £40, and that is a cheap way to get piece of mind.

When we moved in, there were two armoured cables that ran into separate rooms in the house, and then plugged in with a 13A socket, no RCD. There was no consumer unit (old fuse board), so no RCD protection there either. Each armoured cable ran to a plastic box in the garden, where 2 gang adaptors were used to plug different sets of lights in. One of the 2 gang adaptors was in a box full of water……

On top of that, there was an outside socket, which was actually an normal socket for use in the house, and with no specific IP rating. It had been put in a little wooden box with a hinge on it to keep it dry. To top it off, when I traced the wiring back it went back to the 32A supply for the oven.

It’s all been made good now, but I did wonder if I had some comeback against the previous owner, but I’m not sure if I could be bothered with the hassle. How he didn’t kill himself and his family I don’t know…..

To save me reading through the entire thread, what does the cost per pint roughly work out at with home brew? Tempted to give it a go when I’m less busy at home

It’s hardly the end of the world for man utd, especially when they are paying upwards of £60m for one player. Perhaps get a bit of perspective and look at what has happened to clubs like Coventry or even those that now no longer exist before you feel too sorry for yourself – no champions league? Diddums.

Look for online agents, we just bought and the seller used house network. Think it cost them in the region of £500 and it’s all done through a call centre so no scummy spivs in cheap suits to deal with

My missus hasn’t even finished her economics degree yet and I’m sat in Portugal living the high life because she’s been sent on a 4 week business trip

Being sent on a business trip doesn’t automatically mean that you’ve got a great job!

If the house has been there for a while, and you are confident that there isn’t any other parties involved, don’t counter immediately. I know it’s hard not to, but I’d give it until Friday at least before going back. The agent is guaranteed to chase you up.

If you go for Apple TV, do a google for an official Apple refurb one. Ours was about £70, so a worthwhile saving and it has been perfect.

I know 3 people this has happened to in the last year. One guy didn’t realise for about 6 weeks, I think he thought it was something that would pass.

I’m clearly no expert, but what I have understood is that you should be very strict in following the recovery advice offered to you.

Fingers crossed it will be ok for you tomorrow

Give it a few days, let them stew. You can guarantee the agent will come crawling back to you like a rat in a few days time

Beware estate agents tactics in this. We bought ours through an online agent which meant that the vendors showed us around; I made an offer directly in person which was good as they could see we were genuine and not messing about. I suspect if there was an agent involved, it wouldn’t have been so simple.

Thanks for all the suggestions, there is plenty to look at.

We are planning a ‘bigger’ holiday next year (probably to Canada), so this is really a few days to relax. I don’t want to fly anywhere long haul as it is a pain in the backside, especially after the chaos of a wedding. One other thought that I had was a few days in Iceland – not the supermarket!

Yep, Inverness is definitely an option, ideally we would be flying from Birmingham. I only said Glasgow as that is where the inlaws live, so it seemed a decent place to start.

Self catering could also be good; especially if there is a hotel / few restaurants nearby

Do a google. We got ours for about 30 quid for a decent level of cover, I think we used some kind of comparison site. Don’t forget quidco too.

If you want to get it onto rightmove, then online only agents are much cheaper than using a normal agent. Maybe worth it if the for sale board doesnt gather enough interest
